Filed under: Style Tip of the Day, Hair Cut and Style

kim kardashianBuns are the hairstyle for SS09. Nicole Richie in Sonia Rykiel - I Want That!

As mom-to-be for the second time around, Nicole Richie looked completely cute in this red double breasted peacoat at the Proenza Schouler show during New York Fashion Week. Nicole has noted before that a tunic, opaque tights, and big, black shoes have been her go-to look all season long. But instead of sticking with only bland black, she lets her bright personality shine with a great pop of color.

Big hair the new trend for summer?

Big hair!I live in Texas, so when I think of big hair, I think of biiiig hair. As in, the only possible reason to craft your coiffure in that fashion is to hide something large. While it's certainly funny to look at, this probably isn't the most fashionable choice in the world.

Nevertheless, large retro dos -- possibly inspired by the new Hairspray movie released earlier this summer -- are apparently set to be the big trend this season. Says elle.com: "Summer's most stylish movie is certain to turn heads, and so are the hairdos ... We're feeling big hair in a big way right now."

It sounds fun, just don't go overboard. An over-the-top, mile-high do works once in awhile -- for a special occasion, perhaps -- but for your everyday look, start with a little extra height, and go from there.

For tips on how to make it happen, check out these helpful hints from the Budget Fashionista.

World's craziest hair-dos

When people go really out there with their fashion choices, you have to give them credit -- even when it looks awful. If nothing else, at least they tried, and -- chances are -- you'll remember them forever.

I think it's especially daring to make a bold choice with your hair. Particularly when your crazy style choice involves cutting your hair in a certain shape (like a Mohawk, for instance), it's a look you'll be stuck with awhile, so it takes real guts.

That's why I'm so in love with this collection of crazy hair styles. In it you'll find everything from the ultra-long, to the ultra-tall, to the ultra-weird (including one girl who shaped her hair like a helicopter -- no joke). Who knows, maybe these bizarre coiffure creations will give you some ideas for your new 'do?

StyleFoul: Cleveland Cavaliers Drew Gooden

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

On Saturday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Detroit Pistons to win the 2007 Eastern Conference Championships. And Game Six was nothing if not exciting; there were several unexpected stand-up performances from players on both teams as well as a very expected but nonetheless awesome double-technical-foul ejection for the Pistons' power-forward Rasheed Wallace. ('Sheed's motto? "To be the man, you gotta to beat the man!" Suffice it to say that you see where that sort of motto gets you.)

The truth is, my fascination with the NBA is as much about players' aesthetic choices as it is about their jump shots. Naturally, this series I've been utterly fixated on Drew Gooden's unfortunate coiffure.

How bad is it? Well, remember the butt-cut Steve Nash used to rock? Well, if you can believe it, Gooden's hair is even worse than that!

As shown in this photo, Gooden sports the shaved-headed cousin of the infamous Tennessee Waterfall (a.k.a. "business in the front, party in the back" y'all!).

But really, who is he kidding? His neck-nape-hair-tuft makes me think two things:

1) his salon caught fire before his stylist was finished.
2) someone gave his head a bikini wax.
