Hello Kitty has been on bit of a whirlwind this year. First, she was named ambassador to Japan. This past summer, she was placed on the cover of Vogue. And now, she's got a hot new boutique in Times Square.

Sometimes people like to get tattoos of their favorite cartoon characters as a way of taking their fan-dedication to the next level. However, there is a line between "big fan" and "someone who is hyper-obsessed, with bad taste". This post is about a tattoo that falls in the latter category.

Styledash has reported on a lot of extravagant and weird ways that Hello Kitty fans have shown their love, but this "Hello Kitty is my Jesus" tattoo probably one of the most bizarre ones. First of all... Why? Why in the world would anyone want that? Is this the ultimate example of why people shouldn't get drunk near tattoo parlors? Or did a lucid person genuinely believe that this was a good idea? The strangest thing is that I find myself most weirded out by the fact that Hello Kitty has really awkward facial hair.

In three years' time, this person is going to be super-embarrassed by their tattoo choice. And by "three years", I mean "three days".

Ah, Hello Kitty -- that obnoxious adorable, ultra-girly cartoon icon that's been a must-have for every cutesy fashionista since the '90s. The looks for winter and spring '08 are decidedly more mature than in year's past, which might make you think that Ms. Kitty is finally on her way out.

Wrong.

In fact, not only is Japan's favorite animated cat hear for another season (at least), now she's taking on the boys.

Starting next month a new men's line of Hello Kitty products goes on sale in Japan. The character is the same, but instead of frilly pink and white, the men's designs are more simple, straightforward, and in a more "masculine" white on black. Sanrio (the company behind Hello Kitty) thinks that this generation of Japanese men has grown up with the annoying little feline, and won't feel weird about having her adorning their t-shirts.

Maybe so, but will that hold true with American guys when the line goes on sale in the US? Somehow I doubt it.

I'm not going to deny that I have "a thing" for that little white cat with an oversized head and no mouth, but there are times when the associated color palette -- shades of pink that range from bubblegum to bright fuschia -- is a little much for my fairly neutral wardrobe. Rebecca Minkoff has collaborated with the cartoon cat and the resulting leather totes and coin purse are far more subtle than the usual Hello Kitty "stuff" that's emblazoned with the enormous white face and pink bow. Two leather totebags (about $600 each) feature Hello Kitty's tiny face engraved into the metal hardware, and only have a printed lining. The face is embossed into the leather coin purse. It's only the clutch that features a bright Hello Kitty print.

Let me make one thing clear: I am against weapons. I won't look at or touch the things ... unless they are Hello Kitty.

I discovered this wonderful weapon on ThisNext.com and I just have to have it (for what reason I do not know). This adorable assault rifle will only set you back a mere $1,072.95! What a bargain.

Of course you aren't a Hello Kitty fan there are plenty of options you for you in adorable weaponry like: a My Little Pony carbine, a Care Bears bullet proof vest, Paris Hilton handcuffs, or Martha Stewart mine.

Harming others has never been so fun. I actually think the website that this gun is sold (GlamGuns.com) is just one glamorous joke, as I tried to order myself the rifle and I was directed to a book on Amazon.com. I suppose I will have to direct my violent tendencies back to my words instead of weapons.

I have to confess, I hate Hello Kitty.

I understand that it's cool to plaster that obnoxious little feline on all of your cutesy, girly accessories, but let's not forget that Hello Kitty, in spite of her fashion status, is also a children's cartoon.

I know this because I spent two hours driving to Sea World this weekend with that cartoon playing on my child's portable DVD player in the back seat. I'm fairly certain they hired the actress that played Quinn on MTV's Daria to do all the characters -- and, let me tell you, there is nothing more obnoxious than hearing that squeaky, valley-girl voice yakking non-stop for hours on end.

Subsequently, I think it's hysterical that, in Thailand, cops who get caught littering, parking where they're not supposed to or showing up late to meetings will be forced to wear Hello Kitty armbands as a mark of shame. It's the perfect punishment, because everything about that cat is shameful.

While the new scheme may make Thailand's police officers look slightly more fashion forward, something tells me that, once they've been forced to wear it, they won't screw up again.

I love cats, like a lot (I mean I am Fashion Kitty), so I am thrilled to pieces over this absurd Hello Kitty cat costume ... or as Gizmodo calls it "Hello Kitty, goodbye dignity."

Leave to the Japanese to come up with the "Hello Kitty transformation set" (that is the loose translation) which is fully equipped with a bonnet, a bib, collar, and a tote to carry around your very embarrassed kitty.

Sure this "outfit" may be degrading to cats and some may even argue that it's cruel, but seriously why should dogs have all the fun? Dogs have it just as well as us fashionable humans do; designer clothes from Juicy Couture, Louis Vuitton beds, diamond studded collars ... you name it they've got it. Cats, however, they have catnip and this lousy cat stroller I saw online.

As a cat fan I want to humiliate my cat and dress it up in ridiculous outfits, so let's hope the Japanese are about to start a trend here.

Hello Kitty fanatics have pretty much had every itch scratched when it comes to Hello Kitty products ... toasters, scales, coffee makers, watches, clothing, bags -- you name it Hello Kitty has got it. When it comes to buying all of those great items you are on your own. Just whip out your boring credit card, what is it platinum or something ... yawn.

It's time to impress all of your friends and show them how adorable you really are (or how much of crazy animated cat addict you are).

I am not credit card expert but it sounds pretty great; no annual fee, online access, points per dollar, and a 24 hr concierge service which is like having your own personal assistant in your pocket.

You keep up with trends, buy nice-looking clothes, and have a great sense for interior decorating -- but, no matter how stylish the rest of your life is, your computer still looks like a plastic piece of sci-fi, techno gadgetry. Sound familiar?

Admittedly, some of us like the fact that our computer looks like a gadget -- because that's what it is -- but others want something with more glitz and glam. Enter the Hello Kitty laptop.

The new pink, glittery computer went on sale in Japan on Wednesday, in an attempt by NEC Corp to target working women. Currently -- at least in Japan -- "PC users tend to be men," but the company believes that this product might turn the tide.

Women = pink + glitter + Hello Kitty? Seems a tad stereotypical to me, but, according to its manufacturer, sales are already off to a good start.

Currently the product is only available in Japan, although, you can bet if it sells well that we'll be seeing an American version in the near future.
