Katie for Miu Miu, Posh for Giorgio Armani

Celebrity Fashion Ads

We know it's tough to tell the difference, but that's Katie Holmes on the left for Miu Miu and Victoria Beckham baring (nearly) all for Giorgio Armani.

    Miu Miu/Armani

    Madonna for Louis Vuitton
Anyone else tired of the trademark Madonna crotch shot?

    Kirsten Dunst for Miu Miu
We prefer Katie Holmes, hands down.

    Heidi Klum for Jordache
The jean company was apparently trying to target the "hot mom" demographic.

    Kate Moss for Agent Provocateur
Arguably the iconic lingerie maker's most famous star.

    Liv Tyler for Gap
The actress helped boost the fledgling brand as it tried to overhaul its image.

    Maggie Gyllenhaal for Agent Provocateur
No stranger to seduction, the Secretary star was stunning in this sexy lingerie.

    Eva Mendes for Calvin Klein
The TV ads for this campaign are so racy that they were banned in the US (and then subsequently made famous on the Internet).

    Scarlet Johannson for Louis Vuitton
Is there ever a moment when ScarJo doesn't look absolutely gorgeous?

    Teri Hatcher for Badgley Mischka
The Desperate Housewives star shows she's still got it.

Is Katie Holmes slowly morphing into Victoria Beckham? First the fashion rivarly, then the increasingly-shorter haircuts, and now these new ads in which Katie almost freakishly resembles her friend and fashion mentor. In fact both have launched campaigns this week -- Katie for Miu Miu and Victoria for Giorgio Armani. Posh looks amazing as always, but we're more impressed by Mrs. Cruise.

Scarlett, Penelope, Selma - Oh My! - Vicky Cristina Barcelona Premiere

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events

It's been a while since my last post from Miami Fashion Week. I spent last weekend in San Diego for the International Comic Convention, where high fashion was sci-fi T-shirts and cargo shorts. Batman costumes took over the hallways of the convention center, so there wasn't much to post about. I missed Styledash, but I'm back with a bang of an event.

Critically acclaimed director Woody Allen's 43rd film, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," brings together actor Javier Bardem and girlfriend Penelope Cruz with the ever talented Scarlett Johansson. The Los Angeles premiere brought them together again in top designer dresses. Scarlett in Monique Lhullier. Penelope in Herve L. Leroux. Selma in Balenciaga. These women of Hollywood stormed the red carpet in high fashion.

Scarlet won the fashion contest for last night in the Phillipino fashion designer's red gown, and with two of Hollywood's fashion elite on the carpet, that's a victory that deserves a trophy, right?

See the dresses from the premiere in my gallery below.

Heidi Klum vs Iman: Catwalk catfight?

Though it could have been the start of a feud between Heidi Klum, host of the U.S.'s version of Project Runway and Iman, host of Canada's version, it appears that will not be the case.

Iman was recently quoted as saying that she has much more high fashion experience than Klum. Claws out, right? Well, when Heidi was asked about it at the launch of her line of jeans for Jordache at Bloomingdales, she responded by saying Iman was right. Huh? Is that the kind of behavior we expect from a supermodel?

Out with the old, in with the new: Hilary Swank replaces Lindsay Lohan as the face of Jill Stuart

Out with the old and in with the new. Wait...what? That doesn't make sense. Hilary Swank is actually older than Lindsay Lohan. But, fashion label Jill Stuart has decided to replace la Lohan with Ms. Hilary as the face of the brand.

A source said, "Jill wanted to go for a celebrity to make her fashion line more high profile. But after everything Lindsay has been through over the last year, she doesn't feel it would be right for her to represent the line. She thinks Hilary Swank would be the ideal choice because she is that little bit older, and incredibly well respected in the acting industry."

Let's translate that -- Lindsay is washed up and after seeing her hoo-ha a million times nobody will take her seriously as a high fashion sell. Lindsay's popularity has been headed straight down the drain for the past year and Jill Stuart wants to get out while the gettin's good.

Let's just hope that when they do shoot the ads they'll photoshop a little meat on Hilary's bones. Homegirl has been looking like she's in serious need of a hamburger or ten. Aside from that minor detail, I congratulate Jill on making a wise choice. Adios Lohan, aloha Swank!

Balenciaga shoes: Have they lost their minds?

These $4,175 Balenciaga shoes have been photographed in every fashion magazine lately and I have finally found a photograph of them online! I was in desperate need of a photo so someone out there can help understand why these shoes exist. Usually talking it out on Styledash gives me some sort of strange conclusion that may or may not make any sense, so let's give it shot:

At first glance I would say these shoes look like a combination of a ski boot and a roller blade, which leads me to believe that these are a high fashion version of an athletic shoe. However, the 1990s colors lead me to believe these are some sort of high fashion street shoe, i.e. if in the proper shape, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air would rock a pair. Then there is the obvious correlation, these are just another pair of freaky hooker shoes.

There is a slight chance that I am dead on about all of these ideas. Maybe if we opened the sketch book where this shoe was conceived there would be clippings of ski footage, action sports shots, photos of Will Smith in his Fresh Prince days, and a hooker leaned into a car window about to close a sale.

But the real question is, would you wear these shoes, and if so, with what? I would go full on 1990s and wear them with a black mini dress and Ray Ban sunglasses.

Tom Ford launches a website

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Tom Ford, the designer famous for reinventing the House of Gucci, announced on Tuesday that his website has officially launched.

Ford's site showcases his design range, featuring eyewear and beauty merchandise, the upcoming menswear collection, a Tom Ford biography, and even Ford's new fragrance, Black Orchid.

The site is truly a masterpiece of web design, with a beautiful color palette featuring deep reds and purples and (of course) the requisite exotic woman modeling Ford's wares. Tomford.com was designed by Create The Group, a company of web designers who were also behind Marc Jacobs, Bottega Veneta, and Stella McCartney's sites.

One of the things I like best about Ford's site is that he actually lists prices with some (not all) of his products. As a consumer and a retailer, I can appreciate the stylistic value of a product to a point, but usually end up wondering whether or not I could afford to enjoy the item myself.

Ford's website is scheduled to add a new accessories section in conjunction with the opening of his first directly operated retail store in New York (on Madison Avenue, of course!). The store is set to open in April.
