Tip of the day: Flirting 101

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Ah, flirting. Although it may seem like a past time, flirting is actually a big part of our everyday lives. It can be fun and is a great way to give people one on one attention.

You don't need to be single to be a flirt. Of course, when you are, flirting is the best way to find that special someone. But if you aren't a single, flirting is still a great way to have fun and get to know someone more intimately.

Finding the perfect bra: There's more to it than you think

Filed under: Style in the News, Swimwear and Lingerie, Daily Obsession

What qualities would your perfect bra have? Of course, it would have to provide proper support and be comfortable. And, it would need convertible straps so it can be worn with just about anything. It needs to cut low enough for you to wear your deepest neckline, but still provide a seamless appearance under a clingy t-shirt. It should lift and separate, but not so much that it makes your breasts look fake. Oh, and it should be a little sexy, too.

Are we forgetting anything? Because it turns out that building the perfect bra is a lot more scientific than we had realized.

Fashionable fake-outs

Filed under: Accessories, Swimwear and Lingerie

spanx power shapersThere is absolutely no way that the semi-glamorous B-list celeb you happened to spy at the table next to you at lunch today looks that put-together naturally. Sure, she's probably blessed with a speedy metabolism, and maybe her grandmother really does have a porcelain complexion, but when it comes to what she puts on, she's got help. Let's just call them "fashion fake-outs," little hidden secrets that help make you look fabulous.

Shapeshifting
- No one, and I mean no one still wears pantyhose, do they? I hope not. However, the one good thing about those ridiculous things was the control top. Since we're free to go bare legged, the best thing we can do to help tuck our tummy in without the help of Dr. 90210 is a girdle. Don't be afraid of the word. I know it sounds like some horrible thing that your grandmother used to wear in the '50s, but these days, we can call them "shapers." Spanx is an entire line of underthings that help "shape" us where we might have a little too much shape.

Hanky Panky thongs

hanky panky low rise thongFor a long time, I was convinced that we just had to suffer through the discomfort when it came to thongs. The fact that something is there is uncomfortable enough, but then you take into account itchy scratchy fabrics like lace, and it's enough to make you tell yourself that VPL is totally trendy.

Thankfully, there has been a lot of progress made toward comfortable thongs. I cannot speak from personal experience, but based on blog-hand accounts around the web, celebrity sightings at stoes, and heck, even the Wall Street Journal, it sounds like Hanky Panky thongs, specifically model number 4811, are IT when it comes to true comfort. Looks like I might have to go try a pair to see if they're worth their 18 bucks.

Hot child in the city

Lingerie doesn't have to be overtly sexy to still be appealing. In fact, I think the most stylish intimate appeal manages to be suggestive without actually having to suggest anything specific (i.e. "Hey, here's my crotch!" "Yo, this is my butt!"). Take Park Vogel's faded grapefruit stripe lace trimmed camisole set, which is on sale right now at Bluefly.com for $30.50. The set brilliantly negotiates the narrow line between flirty and tarty. The camisole comes with a built-in shelf-bra and adjustable straps. The bottoms are the ever-popular low-rise, hipsters, which tend to be more flattering than regular undies. Perfect for sleeping, perfect for lounging, perfect for anything around the house (except for maybe answering the door), the Park Vogel camisole set is worth its weight in lace.
