Dior launches luxury $5,000 mobile phone

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Joining the Chanel fishing rod, and the diamond-studded digital camera on the list of ridiculously overpriced luxury goods that do nothing special at all, Dior has unveiled its $5,000 MyDior cellphone. Dior's luxury phone boasts a touch screen, camera, and a Swarovski crystal face plate. Apparently, the phone is targeted specifically for the Russian and Chinese markets (where people throw away their hard-earned money?).

Dior is teaming up with French tech firm ModeLabs Group to produce the couture handset, of which they expect to sell 10,000. Wow -- that's an easy $50M. Aside from Swarovski face plate -- which we agree is a nice touch -- the My Dior phone only offers one other unique feature: a tiny micro-phone that allows you to leave the Swarovski-studded handset in your pocket. We have no idea why you'd want to leave a $5,000 designer phone in your purse/pocket. Think we'll stick with the technically superior and less expensive status symbol -- the iPhone.

Insanely Great Tees for Mac lovers

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Men

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

We know that not everyone can be a Mac. Someone has to be using a PC for Mac users to maintain their sense of superiority. Those Mac commercials aren't nearly as funny without someone to poke fun of.

Tip of the day: Packing your beachbag

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Skin Care, Books, Style Tip of the Day

At the risk of sounding a little bit nutso, we definitely think there is an art to packing the ultimate beach bag. If you can pack it up with essentials and still keep it light, then you've got the knack.

FreeLoading sunshine

How many times have you been using an electronic device only to have the battery die on you? It happens to the best of us, and usually during something really important, like that conference call with your boss and the board or when you're getting the high score on Tetris. It is frustrating, and aside from the example of the conference call, rarely appreciated.

Enter the FreeLoader Solar Charger ($49.95) and with it the solution to your troubles. Hum along with me on this one, here comes the sun, and I say, it's all right. Yes, it is all right. The FreeLoader is a portable, solar-powered battery charger for any number of electronic devices.

From Firebox:

Super sleek and barely bigger than a cell phone, the lightweight aluminium FreeLoader pulls open to reveal two solar panels. Simply charge it by allowing it to soak up some rays. Its internal battery will then power an iPod for up to 18 hours, a mobile phone for up to 44 hours, a PSP for up to 2.5 hours and a PDA for up to 22 hours. That's a lot of juice for such a tiny gizmo. Once the FreeLoader has emptied its charge just power it up again via the sun. You can also charge it via USB if you're near a computer.

Will require access to the Sun (widely available throughout the world).

It's available in silver or pink and even works with the iPhone and iTouch. That's cool, right?

iPhone: How do I love Thee?

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Men

On Christmas morning there was one gift left. It was for me. I was a bit surprised as I had already been sufficiently spoiled by all in attendance. I opened the box and looked inside. An iPhone was resting there, gentle and content. Oh, how my heart skipped. I jumped up, still in my pajamas and announced to the 9 family members around me that I would be back momentarily. I had an iPhone and I loved it so much that I just had to be alone.

Actually, what I really said was, "I'm going to take this behind the middle school and get it pregnant." Yes, I stole that line from Tracy Morgan, but damn, I really loved it.

I still do.

The iPhone is sleek and stylish. It is compact and powerful. It is a laptop in your pocket. I'm writing this post on it right now. In a park. That is what the kids call a tax write-off. I'm also using it to listen to Seu Jorge on the built in iPod. When I'm done here I might watch a movie. I rented some flicks off of iTunes and I purchased Season 1 of MTV's classic sketch comedy show "The State."

I won't. I don't want to show off, plus I have kids to play with. I promised them Daddy would be "it" as soon as I was done writing this love letter. Yes, that's exactly what it is.

Now excuse me, I have a phone call.

A chic way to carry your crap

It's funny -- I try to be a minimalist, but when it comes down to it, I'm surrounded by stuff. And I tend to cram a lot of this stuff in my purse, as long as there seems to be room. I mean, how could I possibly leave the house without six shades of lipgloss, gum, phone, iPod, wallet, a small clutch (in case I need to go somewhere and leave the bulky purse behind), checkbook, and more keys than there are doors in the world?

The only solution I can think of is to lose the big purse and simplify things by carrying this. The Violet May, London Blackberry purse holds a Blackberry/iPhone or an iPod (but not all, unfortch), and has a wallet to hold coins, notes, and credit cards.

Besides, when I finally realize that I still need all my crap, I can toss it into my gigantic purse and have the best of both worlds! And at just $390, I could get two ... in my mind.

Would you pay $50,000 for an iPhone?

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

diamond iphone
Diamonds might be a girl's best friend, but today cell phones are coming in at a close second. For the girl who likes to have it all and has the money to do so ... the diamond iPhone might be for you.

The diamond-covered phone has 420 diamonds, weighs in at 5.65 carats and can be set in your choice of 18k white gold or yellow gold. If you aren't into diamonds, you can go with white, black or pink sapphires instead.

This super posh phone will set you back almost $50,000! Sure that money could be spent on, say. a car or an education, but this is a diamond phone.

If I had $50,000 lying around I would just get my hands on a regular iPhone and spend the rest on shoes.

Knock-offs for your iPhone

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Louis Vuitton FAKE iPhone skinWe are all slaves to fashion so everyone should be familiar with the shame associated with carrying a knock-off. At least I hope you are familiar. Knock-off are bad news. Not only are they tacky but they represent an industry of deceit and just plain nastiness.

But what about knock-offs that aren't really knock offs?

What do I mean? I mean this hideous cellphone skin for the hottest phone on the market, the iPhone. Everyone knows that Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and the likes did not design a cheap-o plastic skin for your phone. We know good and well Louis Vuitton wouldn't sell anything for $6.99 when they can charge $1200 for this.

So is it bad to by an knock-off or imitation of a print? Technically it isn't hurting anyone. Well I take that back, it is hurting you. Your 500 dollar cell phone will be the laughing stock of the neighborhood. Don't do it. If you can't afford a real Louis V case then just forget about it and go with something a bit more plain like this.

LG Shine might be better than an iPhone

LG Shine with mirror
Is it over yet? Seriously. Are we iOver all the iHype for the iPhone?

iHopeso. And if not, perhaps there is something that can convince you otherwise.

The LG Shine has a 2 megapixel camera with flash, 1 gig embedded memory, an mp3 player and all the other usual cellphone contents. Of course, the best thing about the Shine is that it has a super shiny sliding cover that can double as a mirror.

Because you know if the one characteristic that's going to make or break your decision to buy a cell phone, it's whether or not you can use it to apply lip gloss.

Louis Vuitton 'does' iPhone

Did you honestly think that Louis Vuitton was just going to sit around twiddling their thumbs knowing that everyone and their mother has the iPhone, and not make an expensive case for it? The fact of the matter is cool people, people with money, and people with a ton of money (aka celebrities) own the iPhone, so naturally they would want an equally expensive case to go with.

Louis Vuitton will be the first luxury brand to unveil their iPhone covers/cases to the world.

Starting July 16, these high end cases will be available exclusively at Louis Vuitton's Fifth Avenue flagship store in Manhattan. Prices begin at $225 from the monogram canvas style to $1,120 for the alligator case (wait isn't that more than the iPhone itself?). The business types can also purchase the Epi and Taiga leather offering which include belt-attachment . The cases will be available to the masses in October, that way people can be even more jealous of your fancy new phone.

Oh and pssst... You can win an iPhone (sorry not the cool case) on ThisNext.com.
