Net-a-Porter Gets Its Own iPhone App

Filed under: Style in the News

Fashion-slash-iPhone addicts, prepare to freak (and shop).

Net-a-Porter just launched an iPhone application: "Net-App" (available at the iTunes App Store).

Now shoppers can browse its notoriously well-edited merchandise (Alexander Wang, Prada, Phillip Lim, etc.) and even complete purchases from just about anywhere.

For those not prepared to lay down the plastic, you can window- (er, Mac) shop, read Net-a-Porter's online fashion mag, email product pics (read: not-so-subtle gift hints) and add items to a wish list.

Once you download the free app, you'll be one in the know, on-the-go fashionista!

They'll be adding new items and content every Monday and Wednesday, so check back often.

Waiting for the bus will never be the same. (Just don't miss it for new Bottega!)

New Phone Face-Off - The iPhone 3G S vs. The Palm Pre

Filed under: Style in the News

With so many new features, choosing between these two new sleek phones is enough to make your head spin. Luckily, there's probably an app for that. Photos: Courtesy of Apple | Courtesy of Palm

While we StyleListas are extremely well equipped to figure out which new handbag to buy, the same doesn't necessarily hold true when it comes to choosing, say, the latest cell phone (if they're even called that anymore).

That's why we thought it best to turn the debate over to gadget guru and self-proclaimed geek, Joshua Fruhlinger. As Editorial Director of Engadget.com, Switched.com, TUAW.com and DownloadSquad.com, he knows a thing or two about tech specs, and incidentally, a lot about style. Here's to geek chic!

Unless you've been hiding in a media dead zone lately, you know that Apple's newest miracle phone, the iPhone 3G S, launched today.

This new phone may look exactly the same, but it's faster, shoots better pictures, sports improved GPS navigation, and doubles the amount of memory (compared to last year's iPhone 3G).

But you might also know that Palm, the company that nearly died off with its long-in-the-tooth Treo, recently released a new touch screen handset called the Pre. This phone not only has a touch screen with iPhone-like gestures, but it also has a slide-out keyboard for those of you who don't like to tap glass when texting your friends.

Vintage Pucci Available on New iPhone App

Beauty and the beach: One of the many rare vintage Pucci pieces. Photo courtesy of yoox.com

Designer shopping site yoox.com is bringing the past into the future on June 4 by offering a rare collection of vintage Pucci pieces online and through a new iPhone app.

Yoox.com collected more than two dozen printed Pucci pieces -- dresses, scarves, pants, and tops, in addition to swimwear, handbags, and jewelry -- from American and European vintage collectors and dealers. And these are authentic vintage pieces, true Emilio Pucci designs (as opposed to the relaunch of the Pucci label under his daughter's direction). Prices start at $150.

You can get in on the action where ever you happen to be when the sale begins -- the office, at home, on the street -- if you have an iPhone. Yoox.com's new mobile app will offer users the opportunity to purchase the goods on the go.

Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley Ringtones - Vogue Tones

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style

Anna Wintour talks on his cell phoneWe've never been to fond of customized ringtones, we usually try to find the one that sounds as much like a phone ringing as possible, although it getting tough these days. In public, a ringing cell phone is bad enough, the only way to make it more annoying is to choose a ringtone that gives every stranger within earshot unwanted fashion advice. Now, that's entirely possible, thanks to Cityfile's Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley ringtones.

Prada Releases a Bluetooth Watch - Awesome Stuff We Don't Need

Prada Link Bluetooth watchWhen it comes to mixing fashion and technology, it appears that designers on both fronts are rushing to team up and blur the lines -- that way they can charge $817 for a device that's probably technologically inferior to the $200 iPhone. One of the products stemming from one of these partnerships is a curious little LG Prada Link wristwatch that communicates via Bluetooth to the new Prada II phone. How cool, sort of.

Dior launches luxury $5,000 mobile phone

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Joining the Chanel fishing rod, and the diamond-studded digital camera on the list of ridiculously overpriced luxury goods that do nothing special at all, Dior has unveiled its $5,000 MyDior cellphone. Dior's luxury phone boasts a touch screen, camera, and a Swarovski crystal face plate. Apparently, the phone is targeted specifically for the Russian and Chinese markets (where people throw away their hard-earned money?).

Dior is teaming up with French tech firm ModeLabs Group to produce the couture handset, of which they expect to sell 10,000. Wow -- that's an easy $50M. Aside from Swarovski face plate -- which we agree is a nice touch -- the My Dior phone only offers one other unique feature: a tiny micro-phone that allows you to leave the Swarovski-studded handset in your pocket. We have no idea why you'd want to leave a $5,000 designer phone in your purse/pocket. Think we'll stick with the technically superior and less expensive status symbol -- the iPhone.

Insanely Great Tees for Mac lovers

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

We know that not everyone can be a Mac. Someone has to be using a PC for Mac users to maintain their sense of superiority. Those Mac commercials aren't nearly as funny without someone to poke fun of.

Tip of the day: Packing your beachbag

FreeLoading sunshine

How many times have you been using an electronic device only to have the battery die on you? It happens to the best of us, and usually during something really important, like that conference call with your boss and the board or when you're getting the high score on Tetris. It is frustrating, and aside from the example of the conference call, rarely appreciated.

Enter the FreeLoader Solar Charger ($49.95) and with it the solution to your troubles. Hum along with me on this one, here comes the sun, and I say, it's all right. Yes, it is all right. The FreeLoader is a portable, solar-powered battery charger for any number of electronic devices.

From Firebox:

Super sleek and barely bigger than a cell phone, the lightweight aluminium FreeLoader pulls open to reveal two solar panels. Simply charge it by allowing it to soak up some rays. Its internal battery will then power an iPod for up to 18 hours, a mobile phone for up to 44 hours, a PSP for up to 2.5 hours and a PDA for up to 22 hours. That's a lot of juice for such a tiny gizmo. Once the FreeLoader has emptied its charge just power it up again via the sun. You can also charge it via USB if you're near a computer.

Will require access to the Sun (widely available throughout the world).

It's available in silver or pink and even works with the iPhone and iTouch. That's cool, right?

iPhone: How do I love Thee?

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Men

On Christmas morning there was one gift left. It was for me. I was a bit surprised as I had already been sufficiently spoiled by all in attendance. I opened the box and looked inside. An iPhone was resting there, gentle and content. Oh, how my heart skipped. I jumped up, still in my pajamas and announced to the 9 family members around me that I would be back momentarily. I had an iPhone and I loved it so much that I just had to be alone.

Actually, what I really said was, "I'm going to take this behind the middle school and get it pregnant." Yes, I stole that line from Tracy Morgan, but damn, I really loved it.

I still do.

The iPhone is sleek and stylish. It is compact and powerful. It is a laptop in your pocket. I'm writing this post on it right now. In a park. That is what the kids call a tax write-off. I'm also using it to listen to Seu Jorge on the built in iPod. When I'm done here I might watch a movie. I rented some flicks off of iTunes and I purchased Season 1 of MTV's classic sketch comedy show "The State."

I won't. I don't want to show off, plus I have kids to play with. I promised them Daddy would be "it" as soon as I was done writing this love letter. Yes, that's exactly what it is.

Now excuse me, I have a phone call.
