Katy Perry to Front Missbehave's Spring Issue, Plays With Jeremy Scott

Filed under: Style in the News

Who you calling a CHIMP? from Katy Perry on Vimeo.

2007 may have been the break through year for Rihanna with her hit Umbrella, but 2008 was all about Universal Records up-and-comer Katy Perry. You couldn't turn on MTV or watch a late night show without hearing the pop tart singing one of her hit tunes. We mean, who doesn't know the lyrics to I Kissed A Girl? Indeed, Perry is major right now (insert Victoria Beckham's voice) and, as a consequence, has scored the cover of women's lifestyle magazine, Missbehave. Luckily for us, Miss Perry brought a camera with her to the photo shoot. In the clip, watch Perry play with a chimp named Susie and her stylist/friend/photographer Jeremy Scott. Oh, my!

Jeremy Scott for Adidas: "Originals by Originals"

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing

Jeremy Scott has signed on to design his own line for Adidas' "Originals by Originals" collection, following streetwear designers Alyasha Owerka-Moore and Kazuki.

Scott, an American designer known for his punk-rock aesthetic and avant-garde silhouettes, will create both footwear and clothing for the athletic-wear giant. The line will be available in February 2009.

"It was proposed to me as complete freedom, to really do what I wanted," Scott told WWD. If that's the case, brace yourselves--one-legged track pants may be in our future.

LA Fashion Week Day 4: Jeremy Scott, Tart, Voom by Joy Han, Evidence of Evolution

Filed under: Runway Trends, Events: On the Scene, Style in the News, Fashion Week

Day four at LA Fashion Week featured collections by Tart, Beach Bunny Swimwear, Voom by Joy Han, The Gallery, Evidence of Evolution, and Jeremy Scott.

I can't say that I was crazy for any of yesterday's shows, but there were certainly a few highlights. Jeremy Scott, for instance, had fantastic disc hats on his models. They're obviously not much of a street wear look, but they added an unexpected proportion to his collection. It seemed plucky and fresh -- notes that were unfortunately ruined by the dirty chimney sweep/dog poop makeup that you can see on some of the models in the gallery.

Other notable moments include a show-opening appearance by Vince Gallo. The actor/director shuffled his way down the catwalk in an Evidence of Evolution jumpsuit. This was just too ironic since I've always thought Gallo had a missing link-look to him. So who better to open the Evidence of Evolution show than Mr. Cro-Magnon himself?

Beach Bunny Swimwear was fake-boob-overload, and Voom by Joy Han had a Japanese manga thing going on, which at least made the show interesting to watch.

We've picked out some of our favorites and our, well, least favorites for the Styledash LA Fashion Week Gallery. Let us know what you think.

Here are a few shots to check out:

Jeremy Scott: Oh no he didn't

Jeremy Scott is awesome. His fashions are an acquired taste to some and always a treat for me, but these shorts almost made me lose my dinner. If I saw a man wearing these phone printed cargo shorts I might just have go back in time, find a real telephone (do they still make those?) and throw it at his head. Geebus these are tacky.

Say you are that cool and you think you can pull these wild thangs off ... what ever shall you wear with them? The model (who shall remain headless) is wearing a simple white tee, but to me that cheapens the shorts. Yeah, even I had to laugh at little at that one. But seriously, the shorts cost $378. To throw on a white tee makes them look about $37. What if you paired it up with an Lacoste polo shirt, would you look like a total tool? Yes, the answer is yes.

Here is an ensemble that I have dreamed up that could possibly work, (just hear me out). Crazy phone shorts paired with a crisp white button down shirt, (un-tucked), with a light weight long sleeved black cashmere sweater over top. As for the accessories: aviator sunglasses, and black classic Adidas shell toes (no socks).

Hmm... I think that could work just fine. With the help of Lauren Messiah, Jeremy Scott can do no wrong.

Runway meets Sesame Street

Every month or so I like to review my ABC's, you know so I don't forget. No, not those ABC's (fashionistas really aren't that dumb), I was reviewing Elle's Runway ABC's. This go round letter "A" was for Anime, which sounded adorable and fun, until I clicked on the first image to see that a gothic version of Big Bird has strapped on a pair of heels and stomped the runway.

Big Bird came from Giles Deacon's 2007 ready-to-wear collection. The collection looked normal for the most part, all pretty wearable stuff, with the exception of that big furry monster. I can't even begin to imagine why that "outfit" was created, perhaps it was punishment for a model who actually ate before the runway show. Gasp, but I digress.

The rest of the anime lesson was as expected; fun colors and pattens, even some cartoons characters-- such as Jeremy Scott's war-ready Care Bear. If you want to master the anime look yourself this summer try pairing unusual color combinations with funky prints such as stars or lightening bolts, or just raid your little sister's closet for some cartoon print tops.
