Kylie Minogue unveils geisha look for her new tour

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Anyone who knows anything about Aussie songstress Kylie Minogue knows that she is always sure to choose some flamboyant stage wear, most memorably the Moulin Rouge-style costumes she showcased on her last tour, which was appropriately titled Showgirl.

We've talked before about her Spiderman-themed outfit (or pretty sexy designer threads, depending on your opinion) but now she's unveiled pictures of the rest of her tour outfits for the world's press to admire/gape at in astonishment.

Models' race still an issue

Filed under: Style in the News

You know, it's 2008. You wouldn't think I'd still be writing about this sort of thing, but unfortunately a model's race is still a big issue. This season of runway shows is coming to a close and the tallies are out -- most designers put no more than 0-2 African American or Asian models on the runway.

Jezebel has the full count but at the Ann Demeulemeester show her models were 100% Caucasian, John Paul Galliano had 52 models and of those he had one African American and one Asian. The winner of the season for most diverse casting was none other than Vivienne Westwood. Her totals came in at 2 Asian, 5 African American and 1 Latina out of 25 girls.

Vivienne is definitely one of my all time fave designers and seeing that her show was kinda sorta diverse just gives me another reason to love her. But, that really doesn't excuse the fact that even though she had more shades of the skin tone rainbow on her runway than anyone else, 8 girls out of 25 is still barely over 30%!

Tyra Banks, Iman, and Naomi Campbell have been some of the most wildly successful models of this day and age. Models don't have to be Caucasian in order to be a household name. C'mon designers, get with the times. We live in a Benetton world!

John Paul Gaultier's furry Fall '08 collection

Filed under: Style in the News

I have never seen so much fur in my life than in the John Paul Gaultier Fall '08 collection. Fur coats, fur hats, fur scarves, animal skins worn as capes, you name it, John Paul had it.

Aside from the fact that there were a lot of dead animals on display some of the clothes were actually quite basic and wearable. We saw a lot of capes (a la Posh) and tons of gold, which we knew would be a big trend for '08. The models walking down the runway looked like fierce princess warriors from the Ice Age.

The high waisted pants trend continues and moms everywhere can rejoice, while young girls everywhere stop eating. And the show was all about dark muted colors -- reds the color of wine, lots of grey and black, even the golds were darker.

Also, you can forget florals for fall. Florals are for spring, but animal print is for fall. Designs inspired by leopards, tigers, zebras and more, were the norm at this show. In fact, the whole show was very raw and animalistic.

John Paul took fur to a whole new level, but for me it was a bit much. I mean, some of these girls are wearing entire animals on their heads! What do you think about these savage clothes? While I can totally imagine Mary Kate Olsen wearing lots of pieces from the collection, personally, I think I'll pass.

Would you wear any of these animal inspired clothes by John Paul Gaultier?
