Shoes of the day - Loupe by Kate Spade

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

Oooh, these sandals are the perfect party shoe! Can't you just imagine dancing away while perched atop these delicate gold-toned heels? We can! And we love them in pink because it brings out the softness of the fabric - they look deceptively comfortable, but are definitely meant for dress-up nights.

You'd wear these at a formal event, of course - but we think these would also look amazing peeking from underneath black pants or dark wash jeans when paired with a dressy top.

(They also come in black, if pink isn't your thing.)

Shoes of the Day: Kate Spade Snowflake Flats

kate spade rubber flatsWe are well aware that everyone and their very up-to-date mothers have a pair of rubber rain boots. They are very necessary, even if you live in a desert climate like Los Angeles because you never know when the clouds will open up and spew rain down on you.

However, if you're not the boot-wearing type, what to do? At the very least, you can take the "rubber" part and wear them in a different shoe, like Kate Spade's Kayla flat. The shoes are made of black molded rubber, lined with a signature striped print, and feature a rhinestone snowflake...because there's nothing better than having sparkling adornments on your feet when you're splashing through the rain.

Shoes of the Day: Kate Spade Striped Espadrilles

kate spade espadrilleIn sunny Southern California, we could probably get away with wearing espadrilles in January, but everywhere else, we save the woven-base sandals that tie around the ankles for summer time. Of course, if you happen to make January your resort season, then Kate Spade's Striped Espadrilles are perfectly fine. The open-toed shoes with a 4¾" heel feature a striped pattern on the fabric upper and a small coiled rope adornment on the vamp. Rather than the typical ribbon straps, Kate Spade's espadrilles use thin rope to tie around the ankles.

The espadrilles are available from Zappos.

kate spade 2008 plannerThe clocks have fallen back and the end of 2007 is rapidly approaching. Before you start freaking out about which dress you are going to wear to your company's Christmas party or how you will combat those pesky holiday pounds -- let's go back to the basics with a 2008 calendar.

In the days of hand-held devices, cell phones, and computers we often forget about good old-fashioned pen and paper. It's a shame really, especially when there are such great paper calendars out there.

Kate Spade has designed this kitschy and affordable spiral bound desk calendar for 2008. The calendar has both monthly and weekly views just like your computers calendar. Major holidays and all that jazz are listed in the back of the notebook, as well as space for note taking.

For $18 this makes the perfect gift for any busy gal on your shopping list. Buy it now at SeeJaneWork.com.

Kate Spade's sparkling clip tells your hair what day it is

saturday hair clip - kate spadeDo you ever forget what day it is?

I do. Especially on the weekends when Thursday night (the new Friday) rolls through Saturday night and into Sunday into one long hazy daze-y weekend.

Thankfully, Kate Spade makes the "Saturday" hair clip. You just have to slip one of these sparkling clips into your hair on Saturday night and when you wake up reeking like yesterday's martini on your couch in your clothes from the night before, contact lenses stuck to the insides of your eyelids, you just have to pull the clip out to remember that it was Saturday night. Personally, I'd rather wear "Sunday" around my neck because I am bad with backward deduction.

The clip is $55.

Kate Spade bags, now with 100% less Kate Spade

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News

Andy and Kate Spade have announced that they are leaving Kate Spade, the bag label they started in 1993. The business grew into a huge business and sold last November to Liz Claiborne Inc. for a reported $124 million. When Liz Claiborne acquired the company they signed up the Spade for a six-month contract.

With their time up, the Spades are out, ostensibly to spend more time with their young daughter. Both will remain members of the brand's board. The news comes hot on the heels of the recent news that Liz Claiborne is considering ditching a bunch of brands to focus on the Kate Spade and Juicy Couture brands. Does it make a difference to consumers if the person who founded the brand and who is the name behind it is gone from the business? We'll have to keep tabs on what happens to Kate Spade bags without Kate Spade.

Liz Claiborne bets on Juicy and Kate

Filed under: Style in the News

Yet another fashion retailer is going through a shakeup and looking to sell or shut down some of their brands. Liz Claiborne is currently mulling over a major overhaul. The company is hitching their wagon to four label stars, Kate Spade, Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand Jeans and Mexx. These brands are expected to grow from about $2.2 billion this year to $3 billion by 2010 as the increased focus on the brands will lead to more marketing spending and store expansions.

The bad news is that if you are a fan of C&C California, Dana Buchman, Ellen Tracy, Emma James, Enyce, First Issue, Intuitions, J.H. Collectibles, Kenzie, Laundry by Design, Mac & Jac, prAna, Sigrid Olsen, Stamp 10, Tapemeasure or Tint, be on notice that these brands may be gone soon or going through a major change. It seems the company is set on skewing younger (yawn!) and ditching the older more staid brands. My question is whether or not this is just fashion's normal brand molting in which labels are often shed in favor of the newest and hottest or whether the older women, who should be (if based on population alone) the biggest market, are getting shafted yet again. Or perhaps there is a third option, women are getting older but we are dressing younger.

Kate Spade getting tangled in the social web

Filed under: Style in the News

kate spade behind the curtainYou can't turn a corner on the Internet without getting ensnared in The Next Big Web 2.0 Idea" these days, and apparently, fashion is not immune either.

Designer Kate Spade has added a social web aspect to her website. there's a microsite called Behind the Curtain that has all the stuff that doesn't have to do with looking at Kate Spade's collections and buying online.

One section within Behind the Curtain is called Things We Love. Kate Spade fans can submit Things they Love via a form. You simply have to link to the thing, describe it, add your email address, then submit! It seems that there are phantom editors who review the submissions, so even if you love it, they may or may not. If they do, it appears on the scrolling window of products. A cool way for fans to share with Kate and each other about other stuff they love.

Seven Days of Style: Laptop bags, in the pink!

la la luscious leather in paris pinkWith just about everything you own reflecting your personal style these days -- from what color and kind of iPod you have to the accessories you do or don't have for your cell phone - why on earth would you go with a standard-issue black bag fabricated from ballistic nylon, or worse yet, pleather, laptop bag? I looked around, and instead of trying to cover every type of from backpacks to wheeled cases in different colors and styles, I decided to hone in on my favorite color: pink. Here are my seven picks for pink laptop bags, one for every day of the week. Don't worry, we will cover laptop bags again, and they won't all be pink, I promise.

If Marc Jacobs ever made a laptop bag, it would probably look a lot like the Luscious Leather line from La La (pictured above), whose tagline is "Fashionably late to work." I am a compartment freak, so I love that the bag has lots of little pockets for a wallet, cell phone, and other necessities.

laptop bag, isaac mizrahi for targetThe always affordable Target has an Isaac Mizrahi bag that has the designer's name in black splashed all over the white leather, but the cutest part is the pink trim and handles. The bag is $34.99. If Mizrahi isn't quite your style, Target has a lot of great laptop bags from which to choose, many of which are also pink.

tweedy-pie tote by melissa beth

Tweed fits right in with this season, and in bubblegum pink, it's totally feminine. The Tweedy-Pie Tote, which also comes in two other colors, is from Melissa Beth Designs, which also has a number of other bags (like a more traditional bag-style called "Pocket Full of 'Puter.") The Tweedy-Pie Tote is normally $250, but is on sale for 50% off.

plastic people by shannon l south laptop bagDesigner Shannon L. South's line is called Plastic People. Because her bags are made from vintage vinyl (hence, the name "plastic"), they are limited editions, so once she sells out of a design, she's done. Her past designs have included bright floral prints, but I love this simple pink with white trim. However, the heart is what sold me. ($165 for standard size, $10 more for larger bag.)

laptop bags acme designer slimAcme makes laptop bags only, and most of their designs are sleek, with prints that remind me a lot of Kate Spade. Their Designer Slim bag is almost a sleeve, holding nothing but your laptop. It's ultra-minimal design allows you to put your laptop in another bag, but it also comes with a shoulder strap for you to carry by itself. ($149.99 - $174.99 based on size and fabric.)

laptop bag komen milanoThe Croc look is always uber-Exec, but this Milano bag from Mobile Edge ignores boring black and brown for pink. The bag looks much less like a laptop carrying case and more like a handbag. It comes in bright pink in honor of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, so 10% of sales from this bag benefit a cause. Like any designer of laptop bags for ladies knows, there's also a small matching detachable wristlet for cosmetics. ($129.99)

laptop bag - mango tango stripe

Mango Tango's line of bags is as cute as the name. While they do have a few bags that are all-over pink, this canvas bag has a less obtrusive stripe down the center. ($39..99 from Mango Tango's site, on sale at eBags for 20% off.)

Kate Spade iPod Shuffle case is on sale for summer

kate spade iPod Shuffle caseDesigners are making room for their fall inventory, so summer stuff is on sale in a big way, and a lot of the stuff is actually seasonless, like a carrying case for an iPod Shuffle.

Kate Spade has small cases from the fun and functional Broome Street line on sale from $45 down to $23. The case is cowhide leather, has a back flap closure with a snap, has opening in both and back, and a wrist strap. It comes in multiple colors, but of course, I like pink.

Flip-flops for every day of the week

wood sole/heel from miaIt's the height of summer, which means you're probably wearing flip flops (I just can't get myself to say "thongs" unless I'm talking about underwear) every day. But honey, those black and blue Reefs from your trip to Baja three summers ago aren't going to cut it. Here are seven Styledash picks for flip-flops through the week:

Sunday - It's a backyard BBQ with 50 of your closest friends, and you've got on daisy dukes, a halter top, and barely-retro wooden heeled thongs

strappy stuart weitzman thong sandalMonday - Off to work at your California casual office that's clean under your slacks, and still has a not-so-flipfloppy feel with a strap around the heel.

urban outfitters straw fkip flopTuesday - Play hooky and go to the beach in flat, simple straw flipflops you can throw in a matching straw beach tote, and won't feel bad about throwing away at the end of the summer when they're all torn up (2 for $12!)

dr. scholl's heeled thong sandalWednesday - Big meeting with the big boss means a linen pantsuit and a simple, sophisticated sandal that's still comfortable so you're not wincing up there during the presentation.

kate spade floral flip flopThursday - After the gym, rubber soled flip flops that are pretty enough to throw on and run over to Pinkberry for some from frozen yogurt

nine west ankle lace up thong sandalFriday - Gotta look like a sex kitten for a hot date with that MySpace guy. Lace up around ankles says "hot."

baby phat heeled thong sandalSaturday - Girls' night out on the town? That's phat and phlirty, baby.
