Katy Perry's 'Waking Up in Vegas' - Simple Steps to Get Her Sin City Look

Celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey, who did the makeup for Katy Perry's "Waking Up in Vegas" video, gives StyleList the simple steps for achieving this look at home. (Showgirl feathers optional.)

Because of the super tight shooting schedule, there wasn't a lot of time for makeup changes. I had to create different looks and there were many scenes to get through so I chose to focus on different lip colors. When you're using an intense pigment, choosing different lipstick shades is a great way to change-up your look in one simple step without having to change everything. I used intense, unique pigments to make each look special without wasting valuable time on set. – Jake Bailey, MAX Factor Celebrity Makeup Artist

Tangled Up in Blue

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Red Carpet Trends

Yellow was supposed to be the big color this year. But bright blue -- and its first cousins teal and turquoise -- showed up on several guests at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala Monday night, making it look a little bit like a 1985 bridesmaids' gathering. Albeit with a bunch of really lovely bridesmaids.

While these shades of blue can make for stunning dresses, they can still be hard to pull off. Teal, when it veers toward green, can make white skin look pale, and not it a good way. And any shade of blue can be a nightmare to accessorize. Add black shoes and you are headed for the disco. Go light or colored, and, well, you're back in the bridal party.

Happily, these women made blue look beautiful, and certainly appropriate for a cool and rainy spring day.

Brooke Shields adopted spring's one-shoulder look in deep blue, worn with a pair of Wonder Woman-worthy cuffs. Like many other guests, she wore her hair in soft, loose waves.

Cindy Crawford and Donatella Versace both wore shades of blue Versace. Crawford chose matching blue shoes and a blue clutch.

Never one to be left out of a trend, Madonna showed up in a teal headdress.

Blake Lively's strappy metallic shoes looked great with this teal-blue Versace gown.

Katy Perry as Katwoman?

Singer Katy Perry, known for wearing little more than her retro skivvies (on and off stage), has decided to cover up! But does it count when it's hot pink leopard spandex?

We think she looks like a cross between Malibu Barbie and Halle Berry's Catwoman. Maybe she's vying for a turn as the sexy, whip-wielding superheroine. If so, it's much less humiliating than Sean Young's desperate attempt in the early '90s to secure the role -- it backfired, big time. Or it could just be that KP wants to show Barbie who's bubblegum boss. Heads up Ken, there could be a new Gotham girl in town!

Who knew we'd be longing for the return of her pinup girl rompers so soon?!

Who you calling a CHIMP? from Katy Perry on Vimeo.

2007 may have been the break through year for Rihanna with her hit Umbrella, but 2008 was all about Universal Records up-and-comer Katy Perry. You couldn't turn on MTV or watch a late night show without hearing the pop tart singing one of her hit tunes. We mean, who doesn't know the lyrics to I Kissed A Girl? Indeed, Perry is major right now (insert Victoria Beckham's voice) and, as a consequence, has scored the cover of women's lifestyle magazine, Missbehave. Luckily for us, Miss Perry brought a camera with her to the photo shoot. In the clip, watch Perry play with a chimp named Susie and her stylist/friend/photographer Jeremy Scott. Oh, my!

Dior's star studded front row

At some fashion shows, front row watching is way more interesting than anything coming down the runway. Although that's not true in Dior's case because the clothes were beautiful too, the event did draw a varied crowd of celebs.

The Katie Perry doll

Filed under: Style in the News

Lookout Malibu Barbie, you may have some fierce competition for Ken's heart coming your way.

Katy Perry, you know, the girl who sings about kissing other girls and likes to wear tons of retro duds, well, she is being immortalized in the form of a doll. Donning a ivory shift dress, over-sized belt, black pantyhose, and bright red lips, the doll will retail for $49.99 and looks a lot like the doll in Perry's music video for U.R. So Gay.

The mini Perry dolls will be sold in a limited number of 500. Of that, the singer's record label, Capital Music Group, will be distributing 150 of the plastic figurines to "tastemakers, media and other interested parties." The dolls are expected to sell-out within one to two days of their release. So if you're interested, keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Katy Perry croons for D&G

Filed under: Style in the News

The fashion crowd loves to party. Like a lot. And besides the ultra-exclusive guest list and equally fabulous party decor, great music is a quintessential part of every news worthy Fashion Week bash.

To that end, it should come as no surprise that the sexy Milan duo known as Dolce & Gabbana tapped the girl-loving Katy Perry to sing her poppy tunes at the designer's showcase they held at their headquarters in Via Broggi last week.

Wearing a sequins number from D&G's spring '09 and clutching a bubble gum pink microphone, the American singer put on a mini concert for a bevy of models, power editors, and socialites. No word if she actually kissed a girl that night, but that's because everyone was probably too busy trying not to catch a cold, or something like that.

Style Foul: MTV VMAs 2008

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Red Carpet Trends

We rely on rock stars, rappers--and yes, even reality-show regulars--to set trends. It's a responsibility that, we admit, requires some risk.

But with risk does not always come reward. And at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, we saw more than one example of that.

Here are a few of the valiant red-carpet efforts (and one complete lack thereof, thanks to Fatman Scoop) that we just can't condone:
