Blake hearts Alpinestars - Tip of the Day

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Leather jacketAlpinestars has been dressing moto and race car drivers for years but dressing Hollywood's hottest starlets? Oh yes. It's happening. Their new line, which they call a cross between "James Dean and Cali surfer," offers a mix of biker inspired geared that has young celebs (think Blake Lively and Kirsten Dunst) on the verge of joining Hells Angels. Okay maybe not joining Hells Angels exactly. More like borrowing some of their leather and studded style.

Creepy Angelina Jolie doll has lots and lots of company

Filed under: Style in the News

So...remember that creepy but irresistible Angelina Jolie doll that Annie found on eBay? It was a little too lifelike, but also a little too idealized...basically we've been waiting to hear that it came to life and killed the guy (because it was a guy, right?) who bought it for £2,000.

Now the Daily Mail has a story on the artist, Noel Cruz. And guess what? There are more dolls. A lot more.

Tip of the day: Kirsten Dunst for Lutz & Patmos

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Kirsten Dunst has a very casual, romantic style. We absolutely love the chic simplicity and often wonder how we can dress so coolly ourselves. Ah, but of course – a celebrity clothing line. Why wouldn't Kirsten Dunst have one?

Her guest celebrity line with the lux Lutz & Patmos includes a handful of chic sweaters in a palette that is totally wearable for anyone. Each is super versatile and can be paired with jeans, leggings, or worn alone with tights as a dress. So Kirsten!

Miu Miu replaces Kirsten Dunst with Johnny Depp's main dish

In the words of the German genius, Heidi Klum, "In fashion, one day you're in and the next you're out." So be it. Miu Miu has replaced Kirsten Dunst with Johnny Depp's main squeeze, Vanessa Paradis.

Kirsten Dunst: Fashion designer?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

At first there was a lot of hoopla over the ever-increasing number of celebrities turned fashion designers, but since then the hubbub has died down and most of us have accepted that every pop star will be launching a clothing line with their new single.

The latest celeb to jump on the bandwagon appears to be Kirsten Dunst. Apparently when she isn't faking tears in mind-numbingly boring Spiderman sequels, the actress is teaming up with fashion houses to produce her own collections. Her current collaboration is with Lutz + Patmos, a company that's previously teamed up with Liv Tyler and Julianne Moore. While there's no word yet on whether or not it's any good, you'll be able to decide for yourself on February 3rd when the collection is showcased during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

I'll keep you posted.

Kirsten Dunst needs a better stylist

kirsten dunst in an ugly dressWhether you love Kirsten Dunst is irrelevant. (I do think she' quite cute.) There is no way you can think that the bile-yellow colored dress she wore to Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan to greet fans is okay.

Oh dear. It is so not okay that it hurts my eyes. Not only is the dress a hideous color, but that thing on her shoulder is horrible. It looks like a rosette that's unraveling down her arm. To topit off, Kirten looks like she threw the dress on at the last minute, the way one would jump into a Juicy tracksuit to run to the market.

We fashion our wardrobes after films

kirsten dunst as marie antoinetteIn case you haven't noticed, there is quite a hullabaloo surrounding the movie Marie Antoinette, and it seems that the fashion world has taken to it as well. Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette appeared on the most recent Vogue magazine, and elements of the style have showed up on the runways, from high hair (oh, how I am hating my wispy fine stick straight hair that doesn' do anything but hang there) to puffy skirts to brocade fabrics.

But it's not just Marie Antoinette this year. Film has definitely affected the fashion world (and vice versa, I suppose) through the decades, and Forbes has put together a short list of some of the more influential films.
  • Funny Face - Audrey Hepburn in "the infamous black turtleneck and skinny pants" that is now the highlight of a Gap campaign
  • The Birds - "the quintessential Hitchcockian look"
  • Belle Du Jour - "pilgrim" flats
  • Bonnie & Clyde - shoulder length bob, pencil skirts and berets
  • Annie Hall - "oversized, exaggerated menswear alongside earth-toned, patchwork smocks. It's messy, incoherent and ... altogether genius."
  • Out Of Africa - white linens, safari jackets and all things khaki
  • Working Girl - the Power Suit
  • Singles - the definitive grunge look: floral dresses topped with lumberjack flannels and paired with combat boots
  • Almost Famous - hippie chic -- with shearling coats, floppy hats and Frye boots.Secretary
  • Secretary - "the sexy librarian"
  • Stepford Wives - prim and proper '50s look
