Clothes hanger lamp

Turn your favorite shirts into wall artI'll admit, I'm a sucker for novel home decor. Some people collect yard gnomes or weird porcelain figurines, and I lust after kitchy, cute functional pieces that fit my modern design aesthetic.

Like this clothes hanger lamp, for instance. It's not going to change your world, or even revolutionize the way you hang your clothes. It can, however, make your bedroom just a little bit cooler.

For instance, I like to screw a small metal bar into one wall of the bedroom, that lets me hang my favorite shirts out in the open instead of tucked away in my closet. With the clothes hanger, I'd be able to highlight that design choice -- making it fun, instead of merely functional.

The only problem is that the lamps, at $249, aren't exactly within everyone's budget (including mine). But I can't imagine the concept would be that hard to replicate. Just make sure you're using low-watt bulbs. You wouldn't want your DIY design idea to turn your bedroom into a blazing inferno.

I am creeped out by this glowing phallus lamp

I'm not sure what the designers of the "Dream Lamp" were thinking when they created this odd little bedroom accessory. A quick trip to their website reveals that they are not, in fact, a company you'd expect to make a product that looks very much like a glowing phallus.

That said, is this the height of modern design? Am I just being a prude?

Personally, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable sitting in a room with luminescent male genitalia -- but maybe the product isn't geared towards guys like me. I suppose it'd make a nice addition to the bedroom of a person who, say, also hung a mirror on their ceiling.

But at first glance, this seems more like something a woman would hide in her sock drawer. I'm just sayin'.

Lovely lighting that tricks the eye

What do this floating lamp, this levitating light bulb, and this sinking lamp have in common? They're all awesome, that's what. Oh, and they're also stunning illusions that light your home.

The floating lamp is actually supported by a steel base that only looks like a loose cable. Awesome. The levitating light bulb is actually wirelessly powered, so it's fully functional. No need to use a lampshade to hide it. Double awesome. As for the sinking lamp, it's just an illusion, but, still, it's awesome.

Have I mentioned how awesome all of these are?

The lights are created by different designers, but I'd love to be able to buy all of them and scatter them throughout my home. It'd be a bit like living in a fun house, yeah? Awesome.

Turn your clothing into lighting

There are hangers, and then there is this, the hanger lamp from Droog design. You can turn your favorite shirt into a lamp or perhaps this could be the way to lay out the shirt you will wear the next day each night.

The acrylic hanger uses a fluorescent lamp. Droog design recommends that you not use it for wet clothes but everything else should be safe. At $254 it will probably also the be the most expensive hanger you ever own.
