Lindsay Lohan's Lawsuit - Did She Steal Idea for Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist?

Filed under: Style in the News

Is there something shady about Lindsay Lohan's tanning mist? Photo: Getty Images

Poor Lindsay Lohan.

Just as her Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist was catching on (it's already a best-seller at Sephora), LiLo and her business partners get slapped with a lawsuit.

According to WWD, inventor Jennifer Sunday said she pitched the idea to Lohan and her partners this year, they entered into a confidentiality agreement and then La Lohan and co. bailed -- taking Sunday's trade secret with them.

Lancôme is bringing back its genius Pout-à-Porter series for spring 2010!

The collection -- for which the makeup giant brilliantly teams up with fashion designers to create limited edition lipsticks -- first debuts on the runway, then promptly sells out at cosmetic counters.

Past collaborations include Thakoon, Peter Som, Benhaz Sarafpour and Proenza Schouler. (You may remember a tube of "Proenza Pink" selling on eBay for $122.50!).

Fall Beauty Trend - Indigo

Lady sings the blues: Lancôme's Le Vernis in "Indigo Paris." Photo courtesy of Lancôme

How's this for a color war.

Lancôme, under the leadership of Artistic Director Aaron De Mey, is getting ready to launch the aggressively named, sharply focused collection, "Declaring Indigo."

The blue-violet shade is the focal point of the collection, most brilliantly in the Le Vernis in Indigo Paris, a color so gorgeous, I'm banking it will achieve Chanel Vamp-like status.

(Like Vamp, the indigo nail polish is close enough to black to be edgy, but pretty enough to keep it from looking teenage angst-y.)

How To Score Sienna's Surprisingly Realistic Tan (and Hopefully a Matthew Williamson for H&M Dress)

Filed under: Cosmetics, Celebrities with Style, Get the Look, Beauty Tips

If you've ever been convinced that this life wasn't for you, that really, you should be lounging in Ibiza or Goa with drink in hand and floor pillow nearby, then I say run - don't walk - to your local H&M and pray you can still get your hands on pieces from the just-launched Matthew Williamson exotic capsule collection. And don't fret it the racks are totally depleted, his summer delivery hits stores on May 14th.

But dear God, if you are lucky enough to find one of his flow-y butterfly-print dresses, at least work a (faux) tan. Sienna Miller, Williamson's longtime muse, best exemplifies the kind of dusty, well-earned tan that goes so well with his clothing.

It suggests the sort of slow-and-steady, weeks-long bake that one gets if they have no real reason to get back indoors and under tacky, fluorescent office lights.

And makeup artist Ashley Ward, who works with Miller, told me how to get it.

U*Tique, Luxury Vending Machines Never Looked This Good

U*Tique vending maching in Santa MonicaWhen we were in high school, someone -- without fail -- would always reach into our gym bags while we were working out and steal either our brand new Lancome juicy tube or our beloved Dior 'Lash Out' mascara before the year was out. It got so bad that we actually resorted to hiding our cherished beauty products in our funky New Balance gym shoes.

Yes, if only there had been a U*Tique vending machine inside our locker room so the thief could have bought her own items!

Oscars Makeup: Get Angelina Jolie's Look

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Cosmetics, Beauty Tips

Angelina Jolie showed off her figure in a black strapless Elie Saab gown paired with emerald-colored jewels for a burst of color. Her fresh, dewy makeup was the work of celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton.

Burton applied Lancome Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to the upper and lower lash lines. She emphasized the shape of Angelina's eyes by applying more liner to the outer corners of the eye. Several coats of Lancome Ôscillation Mascara were applied to the upper lashes for added volume and length. Burton put a touch of pink to the cheeks using Shu Uemura Blush in M Pink 31 and applied it to her cheekbones near the temple. To create ultra-shiny and luminous lips, Burton used Lancome Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling.

Oscars Makeup & Hair: Get Kate Winslet's Gorgeous Look

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Cosmetics, Beauty Tips

We thought Kate Winslet looked beautiful in a multi-toned one shoulder YSL dress. And her classic hair and makeup made the look. Leave it to celebrity makeup artist (and Kate favorite) Jillian Dempsey to create the perfect natural face - it added sparkle to Kate's eyes and rosiness to her cheeks. Kate prefers the natural look on the red carpet, as she said when we interviewed her: ""The last thing I want is to be having a conversation with Penelope Cruz for her to be thinking 'Oh, my God! Kate is caked!"

First, Dempsey prepped Kate's skin with Lancôme La Base Pro primer to create a smooth canvas for a polished complexion. She lightly brushed Lancôme Brow Expert in Naturel on the brows to play up their natural shape. Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Eyeshadow Trio in Ice Shimmer was applied to the eyes and the lashes were coated with Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Mascara in Black. To create a sheer, neutral colored lip, Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Old Flame was applied for a soft, matte finish.

Winslet's hair was styled by Frederic Fekkai's Renato Campora, who strove to transform the actress into a modern day Grace Kelly, with a 'do that compliments her total look and silhouette with a wavy texture with a dynamic shape. He applied Fekkai More All Day Density Styling Whip on wet hair. Next, he blew-dry the hair smooth with Fekkai Extra Large Round Brush to create volume. He made waves with a one inch curling iron and let it set for 20 minutes, and brushed it through. He used Fekkai Coiff Magnifique Ultra Light Finishing Crème at the ends to help roll hair under, and finished with Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray.

Lancome Oscillation: Vibrating mascara?!

Filed under: Cosmetics, Product Reviews, Beauty Tips

There are a lot of weird things you can do to your eyelashes.

We've heard of people using hairdryers on spoons to curl lashes, tattooing black between lashes, crazy-colored mascara, and I personally tested out a heated eyelash curler from Artemis Woman.

But this? This is crazy talk. That little wriggle you do at the base of your lashes to make the mascara stick? The new Lancome Oscillation brush does that for you, 7,000 times per minute.

The Lancome Oscillation will be available October 22nd. If you want to be reminded, and be the first to know where to purchase, sign up here.

Black lip gloss: from the runway to real life

Fall is a great time to try out darker shades of nail polish, eyeshadow, and lip color. But how dark is too dark? Yves Saint Laurent sent black-as-night lips down the runway during its fall fashion show, and the company will offer the signature shade for sale next month. (You can pre-order a tube of "Pur Black" here for $28.)

But though it may come as a surprise, you don't have to be an avant-garde fashionista to work this look. Even mainstream cosmetic companies, like Lancome, are in on the trend. Lancome's ink-black "Piha" gloss will go on sale, as part of a set, in November. Unlike the YSL version, Lancome's is glittery, and meant to be layered over the red lipstick that it is sold with.

So while matte, black lipstick is still a fashion miss, these high-shine black glosses don't have to be. Aaron May, Lancôme's new artistic director, even suggests using "Piha" as a vampy liquid eyeshadow, which seems like a winning way to make this trend more glam than goth.

Uma Thurman and Lancome sue each other

Filed under: Style in the News

Just when she got rid of a crazed stalker, Uma Thurman once again finds herself back in court.

The actress sued cosmetic giant Lancôme on Friday for $15 million dollars for continuing to use her image in advertising on Canadian billboards and Asian websites even though her contract had expired. Apparently, her contract expired in 2004.

But wait! There's more.

The Daria Collection

Last year, supermodel Daria Werbowy signed a major contract with Lancome cosmetics. If that wasn't enough, the beauty company asked Daria to create a limited-edition three-piece makeup collection.

The Daria collection will be sold exclusively at Sephora stores starting sometime this month and will consist of a Color Fever lipstick in Beige Caracai ($26); Lipgloss in Nude Prainha ($24), and Color Design Eyeshadow Quad in Carnet de Velours ($42).

Lancome's magnet magic trick

Check out the picture at right, this is the new Lancome Magnetique nail polish. Over at Blogdorf Goodman, where I nabbed the picture from, the have the breakdown on how the polish works. Apparently the nail polish contains iron oxides, you apply the polish and then hold the nail up to a magnet that slips over the bottle. The magnet activates the iron and creates the sunburst pattern. The polish is new for fall (doesn't seem to be widely available yet) and sells for $17, which is a lot for an effect that is probably really fun the first time and then less so. More pics can also be found at All Lacquered Up. I think it's a cool idea but I can barely paint a couple of basic coats of red without messing things up so I think this is probably beyond my nail skill set. I wonder if nail salons will offer it and if they will dream up new ways to create different patterns.

Wearing the Proenza Pink

It's been abso-damn-lutely everywhere this season, the bright pink lip. It's part of the Barbie Loves MAC line but reaches apotheosis in the Proenza Pink lipstick for Lancome. The ultimate pink, highly fetishized by beauty blogs and quickly sold out (you can find it on eBay) is the color of the season even if it does look a little like something your overtanned Florida grandmother might wear. So how do you work with the pink lip? Elke over at the Beauty Newsletter has some ways to get a similar look without having lips that scream 'notice my lipstick.' The key seems to be a slow build up of color on the lips and keeping the eyes and cheeks simple. I believe though, that like the skinny jean this is not a trend that works on everyone. And, while Elke recommends limiting the eyeshadow, I'd be sorely tempted to pair this with a silver or pearl shimmering shadow. Which of course explains why I'm not a makeup artist and she is.
