Tim Gunn: Jennifer Aniston "dresses desperate"

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

We're pretty solidly Team Aniston, but are even more solidly Team Gunn. So we must agree with Tim's assessment of Jen's post-Idiot (Mayer The Player gag) wardrobe. Oh, we still think she looks miles better without that ass, but when a style expert like Tim speaks out, we defer. Oh yes, we defer.

In Tim's learned opinion, lately Jen's wardrobe is unintentionally giving out the message that she is a "desperate character." While hanging with Project Runway Season 3 finalist Laura Bennett at the launch party for Tide and Downy Total Care, Tim told OK! Magazine that "She's a gorgeous woman," who "understands her fashion" so there is hope for her to rebound.

Tim is less kind about Miley Cyrus, who he said looks tarty and dresses too old for her 15 years. And he said, quite rightly, that Katie Holmes is looking like dowdy European royalty.

Sigh. We need this kindly but blunt voice of reason. Season two of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style cannot get here soon enough for us!

Mychael Knight and Laura Bennett unveil one-of-a-kind dresses

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News

Stephanie Prommer is a writer, editor and stylist in the fashion and entertainment industry. She's on the scene at all the hot parties, bringing you the inside scoop on A-list style and gossip.

I'm a die-hard Project Runway fan, so when I heard that former contestants Mychael Knight and Laura Bennett (pictured) were co-hosting an event, I jumped at the chance to go. Turns out the little soiree was thrown to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the weight loss drug Alli (which I do not take, btw), but hey – there's nothing wrong with a nice lunch and face time with Mychael!

Jai Rodriguez of Queer Eye fame played master of ceremonies while men and women regaled the audience with stories of their dramatic weight losses. After their inspiring tales, Mychael and Laura unveiled custom LBDs that they designed for four lucky ladies at the party who had collectively lost, like, a crazy amount of weight.

After the big reveal of the dresses I chatted with Mychael, and he gave me the scoop on what's new in his world. Mychael told me: "I'm still working on the fashion label, and trying to get into retailers, and I have a fragrance – it comes out maybe this summer. It's a unisex fragrance called MajK [pronounced Magic]. It's going to be forever my signature fragrance. It's beautiful, clean, crisp, and great for the summer." If you want to get your hands on the scent before it hits stores, Mychael told me that it's available on his website, www.mychaelknight.com.

I also ate my lunch with Laura Bennett, and I can't really print anything that she said, because that girl swears like a sailor! Who knew?

Washington Post interviews Laura of Project Runway

Filed under: Style in the News

project runway season 3's laura bennettWe all had our favorites from this past season's Project Runway. Some of us were charmed by Michael's sweetness, others were strangely attracted to the vicious Vincent. I'm probably not alone in saying that early on in the season, I thought Laura was pretty boring. Her designs were well-done, she was always very well put-together herself. However, Laura became something of an idol in her own right once we all realized that she was cool, calm, and collected, despite how old she was, the number of children she already had, and the fact that she was pregnant with her sixth child during the competition. Can someone say, "Superwoman?" If yo're curious about how she does it all, the Washington Post has done a short, smart interview with the woman who admits that "Mothers don't usually put themselves first, but I do a little bit."

Project Runway scandal

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Clothing

On Wednesday, Project Runway will send one of the four remaining designers a'packing. And in the midst of the competition's excitement, Project Runway may be facing a potential scandal. During the group show in Byrant Park, one of the designers (Laura Bennett) accused another designer (Jeffrey Sebelia) of outsourcing his sewing. Sebelia -- who was known for shabby garment construction during the monitored period of the show -- had turned out a very impressive full collection, with uncharacteristically well-sewn garments. Tim Gunn, the show's design guru had commented that Sebelia's collection was "very ambitious." In the meantime, Bravo producers and executives have investigated the accusation, but refuse to reveal their findings. As for what will happen, well, I guess we'll find out on Wednesday. But one thing is certain, if Sebelia did outsource his sewing he's going to be the one who is "Auf'd!"

Project Runway's final four collections

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News

Tim GunnOver on one of StyleDash's sister sites, TV Squad, I've posted a sneak peek at the collections of the final four Project Runway designers (three designers move on to have their collections shown on television, but there's a fourth designer that acts as a decoy to prevent the Fashion Week press from knowing too much... Austin Scarlett and Kara Janx both presented during their respective seasons).

For those of you that want to wait until next month to see the collections, don't read any further. However, if you're a bit on the naughty side and don't mind spoilers, read some of my thoughts over at TV Squad and/or check out these pictures:

Michael Knight's collection.
Uli Herzner's collection.
Jeffrey Sebelia's collection.
Laura Bennett's collection.
