The collection -- for which the makeup giant brilliantly teams up with fashion designers to create limited edition lipsticks -- first debuts on the runway, then promptly sells out at cosmetic counters.

Past collaborations include Thakoon, Peter Som, Benhaz Sarafpour and Proenza Schouler. (You may remember a tube of "Proenza Pink" selling on eBay for $122.50!).

Does Red Lipstick Mean More Sex and a Better Job?

Does wearing red lipstick mean you have a more active and passionate sex life?

According to a recent study that ran in the Daily Mail, the answer is yes!

In fact, the research even goes as far as to say that women with bright red pouts have better career prospects, while it revealed that those with bare lips "usually lack confidence and feel less sexy than those who wear statement colours."

VIE at home surveyed 3000 women about their choice in lipstick and analyzed how it correlated to their state of mind.

Kissing for Lead Free Lipstick!

If you feel guilty about your lack of Earth Day involvement, here's the inspiration you just might have been missing.

A group of concerned and proactive teens in Marin County, California founded the organization Teens Turning Green in 2002 after learning the alarming statistic that breast cancer had risen 60% in 8 years. Now, the coalition is made up of teenagers from around the country and its mission is:

investigating toxic exposures in daily lives, schools and communities, advocating for change in policy and practices that protect the world, and educating peers and the community about healthy lifestyle choices. Through positive and collaborative efforts, these leaders of the next generation inspire us to work towards a healthy, sustainable future.

Teens for Safe Cosmetics is the beauty-policing branch. Its current initiative is to get the use of lead - a neurotoxin - in lipstick banned. One creative member started the Lips Against Lead petition, where quite appropriately, you sign and kiss the petition to show your support. That's me, smoochin' my signature.

Babydoll Lips - Lady Gaga Wears Fall Beauty Trend Early

In yet another instance of a precocious celebrity wearing a fall beauty trend early, witness Lady Gaga's baby-doll lips, seen today as the star left Radio One in London (with her newest accessory in tow - a tea cup). Her lipstick was carefully inked only in the center of the lips, and the sides were erased with strategically applied concealer.

Many of the Fall runway shows used makeup tricks to create surreal lips (McQueen's Ronald McDonald version and Ungaro's two toned beauties were a few extreme examples). But the pouts Gaga is gaga for were seen at Dior (below, left) and Galliano (below, right). At Dior makeup artist Pat McGrath concentrated color in the center of the lips to achieve a geisha look. Galliano's "frozen Ukrainian brides," also created by McGrath, featured a similar lip shape for an "ethereal" look.

Will we see more celebrities wearing this Kewpie-cute trend? Maybe, baby.

Drew Barrymore Goes Violet Femme at Grey Gardens Premiere

Filed under: Runway Trends, Cosmetics, Beauty Tips

Purple lips don't sound all that great in theory, but, as Drew Barrymore showed us at last night's Grey Gardens premiere, in practice, they can look truly amazing.

Going in theme with her gorgeous purple shoes and sixties style, Drew lips popped in pale lilac lipstick for the Los Angeles red carpet. We think her makeup artist deserves a big pat on the back for her work, because purple lipstick is a huge trend right now.

It was all over the spring runways at Zac Posen, Doo Ri, and Phi, while beauty brands like MAC and Smashbox have been stocking their shelves with violet hues.

So you wanna be a violet femme? Some advice to consider: Jamie Kern Lima, creator of IT Cosmetics, says, "Consider any purple lipsticks with brown undertones to be rotten grapes and avoid them like the plague. Think fruit when picking your shade of purple – old fruit starting to brown is bad!" If you go for a shade of purple with blue undertones, it will counteract the yellow in your skin tones and really make your teeth look white!

Check out more tips on how to rock this flirty, fun look like Drew:

Purple Makeup

From the runways to the red carpets, the spring makeup shade of the moment is purple. Feminine and flirty, purple adds a fun splash of color to your eyes or lips. Read on for Stylelist's tips and tricks from leading beauty experts on how to rock the purple trend.

    PURPLE LIP RULE: GO BLUE!
Blue counteracts yellow in your teeth, making for a bright white smile – so always look for blue-based purples. "Consider any purple lipsticks with brown undertones to be rotten grapes and avoid them like the plague. Think fruit when picking your shade of purple – old fruit starting to brown is bad!" advises Jamie Kern Lima, creator of IT Cosmetics.

    PURPLE LIPS FOR FAIR SKIN
Go with a deep magenta or berry shade for a stunning contrast against light skin, see here on Anna Paquin. "Avoid pastels and iridescent purples. On pale skin, these light purples will make you look like you're freezing," says Jamie Kern Lima.

    TRY THE TREND:
Laura Geller Lipstick in Frostbit, $15
Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Rock Icon Fuschia, $25

    Jason Merritt, Getty Images

    PURPLE LIPS FOR MEDIUM SKIN
Jeweled berry tones enrich the pigment in medium and olive skin, which pulls off more vibrant color beautifully - as seen on Zac Posen's Spring 2009 runway, and on actress Camille Belle. Be careful not to go too dark, as it can be aging, and "avoid pastels like lilac, it will just wash you out," says Celebrity Makeup Artist Trish McEvoy.

    TRY THE TREND:
L'Oréal Colour Riche Lipcolour in Raspberries, $7.99
Sue Devitt Balanced Matte Lipstick in New York, $20

Scott Gries, Getty Images for IMG | Lester Cohen, WireImage

    PURPLE LIPS FOR DARK SKIN
Your deep complexion can pull off dark plums beautifully, says New York Makeup Artist Kimara Ahnert. To modernize your look, slick vaseline or plum lipgloss over your lipcolor for a sexy, shiny lip-lacquered look, see here on actress Taraji P. Henson.

    TRY THE TREND:
MAC Lustreglass in Trance Plant, $14
Milani Velvet Lipstick in Chic, $4.99

    Frazer Harrison, Getty Images

    LEERY OF PURPLE LIPS?
If you want to try purple on your lips in a subtle way, apply a smidge of purple eyeshadow to your lips and then top with your favorite blue-based lipgloss. The color will absorb a gentle purple tint without straying too far away from your usual shade, says Celebrity Beauty Expert Eva Scrivo.

    TRY THE TREND:
IT Cosmetics My Youthful Smile Lipgloss in Signature Blue, $32

Scott Gries, Getty Images for IMG

WHAT TO PAIR WITH PURPLE LIPS?
Sweep a touch of rosiness to your cheekbones with a natural blush and keep the eye neutral, advises Trish McEvoy. If you want to add a touch of color to the eye, define with just aubergine eyeliner (seen here on actress Thandie Newton). "Stay away from bright colored eye makeup!" warns Jamie Kern Lima.

    TRY THE TREND:
Trish McEvoy Perfect Blush in Natural, $20
Paul & Joe Beaute Pencil Eye Liner in Aubergine, $16

    Gary Gershoff, WireImage

    PURPLE EYES - HOW-TO APPLY
Light and vibrant shades of purple eye shadow should be applied with a large eyeshadow brush in a sweeping motion over the lids so that you deposit sheer color. You can also apply these tones up into the crease and finish with a cream or soft shimmer on the brow bone for a pretty eye-opening look. Deep shades of plum are best applied in the crease, outer corners of the eyes and/or smudged along the lash line.

    PURPLE SHADOWS FOR BLUE EYES
Blend a light violet all over the lid - as seen here on Amy Adams and Katie Holmes -- and then apply a brown-plum to your crease and along the lashline so that the deep shade sits right next to your blue eyes. The mix of plum and brown brings out blue eyes beautifully, and "you'll look like you walked off the runway, not like you walked out of the 80s," says Jamie Kern Lima.

    TRY THE TREND:
Paula Dorf Eye Color Glimmer in Tranquility, $21
MAC Eye Shadow in Shale, $14.50

Steve Granitz, WireImage | Dave Hogan, Getty Images

PURPLE SHADOWS FOR GREEN & HAZEL EYES
"You were born for this trend – own it! Purple makes your hazel eyes pop more than any other color," says Jamie Kern Lima. A silver-toned purple will additionally bring out the whites of your eyes, which will make your eyes sparkle, suggests Trish McEvoy. Here, hazel-eyed Faith Hill sizzles in plum shadow.

    TRY THE TREND:
Too Faced Single Eye Shadow in Glamazon, $16
Smashbox Cosmetics Single Eye Shadow in Spellbound, $16

Foundation Replaces Lipstick as the Must-Have Beauty Item During This Recession

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics, Polls and Quizzes, Beauty Tips

The correlation between financial recessions and increased cosmetic sales has long been noted by economists and beauty industry watchers -- conventional wisdom is that when faced with financial uncertainty, women turn to little luxuries rather than investing in pricey and trendy items (like handbags).

The cosmetic of choice for recessionistas has traditionally been a tube of red lipstick -- think late 20's, early 30's flapper glam -- because it gives the most transformational color bang for its buck.

But we've all heard that this recession is different than any other, and it turns out that this rhetoric applies to our penny-pinching cosmetic choices as well. The Financial Times reports that this time around women are splurging on foundation rather than lipstick.

We want to know -- What's your must-have recession beauty item?

What's your must-have beauty product?

FALL 2009 FASHION WEEK - Trend Watch: Goth lipstick...would you wear it?

Filed under: Fashion Week, Fashion Week by Refinery 29

Just one day down and seven to go and we've already spotted our first Fashion Week trend in-the-making: Black and deep-deep plum lipstick. Spied at both the Catherine Holstein and Rachel Roy shows, this dark and probably hard-to-pull-off look is reminiscent of both Marlene Dietrich and Siouxsie Sioux. As glam-goth-goddess as it is, we're still on the fence as to whether or not we'd venture to the dark side. Would you?

Freida PintoThis year brought some big changes in red carpet makeup -- namely, a serious lack of it. We've gotten so used to the heavy, dark, smoky eyes and bold red lips on even the youngest of actresses that seeing anything less is ... well, a little shocking. But, at the same time, completely refreshing.
