Back in January, we were shocked to learn that eLUXURY.com was closing its virtual doors.

Yesterday, the high-end online destination officially announced that June 26 will be its last day. So sad! The silver lining? There will be crazy sales during its final chapter.

But all is not lost, the site confirmed rumors that it will be turning into an online magazine. Phew!

The company said "It is moving to the next step of its evolution, repositioning itself as a premier source of editorial content." No editors have been announced yet, but it's sure to shake things up in the small world of fashion editorial!

Chanel and LVHM Scale Back, Succumb to the Recession

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Woman carrying a chanel shopping bagFor a few months, it looked like the luxury brands would somehow escape the economic fallout plaguing the lower classes. Chanel was pumping out its usual flow of outrageously-priced items like the $18K fly fishing rod, and LVMH was busy buying a yacht building company like everything was just peachy keen. Now, after months of worldwide financial hiccups convulsions, it looks like even the seemingly immune are having to eat some humble pie.

Hennessy launches a luxury sneaker - things that have nothing to do with cognac

A few months ago, LVMH announces that they're getting into yachts. Now the luxury conglomerate is launching limited edition Hennessy sneakers in collaboration with Jhung Yuro. Go figure. The cognac-inspired kicks will go live Dec. 1st exclusively at JhungYuro.com, and they're sure to be the envy of anyone who has an appreciation for the finer points of luxury sneaker design. If such a person exists.

Louis Vuitton does boats

Filed under: Style in the News

Looking for a place to cast that $18,000 Chanel fishing rod? Well, there will be plenty of room on the deck of your new Louis Vuitton yacht. That's right, while most people are watching in horror as their 401Ks shrivel up like worms on a hot sidewalk, Louis Vuitton decides to get into the yacht business. Go figure. Louis Vuitton's parent company LVMH recently bought out legendary Dutch yacht-builder Royal Van Lent to go with all their other luxury brands.

Apparently, the LV luxury conglomerate didn't just buy just any old yacht builder, Royal Van Lent builds some of the largest, most luxurious über yachts on the planet. The way we see it, when you buy a yacht, luxury pretty much comes standard, so it'll be interesting to see exactly what LVMH does to take their yachts above and beyond. Maybe they'll include a fully-stocked champagne fridge or cargo hold full of Hennessey. They ought to at least include leather upholstry stamped with those classic LV logos.

Confirmed: Pheobe Philo for Celine!

Filed under: Style in the News

Good-bye Gap and hello Celine!

Pheobe Philo is clawing back to get into high fashion no more. The former Chloé creative director has just been given the job of design head at LVMH's Celine brand.

On her new job, Philo says: "I can't wait to step back into the studio and begin creating designs which will reinvigorate the brand, get customers excited about the product and work with a team that are incredibly serious and passionate about their work."

As was mentioned earlier, Philo had been keeping busy with a "secret" job designing for Gap's European operation. Le sigh. Those limited-edition collections will never be the same without her. Au revoir.

Phoebe Philo at Celine?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Don't call it a comeback, but former Chloe babe, Phoebe Philo, maybe returning to fashion in a big way next year.

According to WWD, LVMH is "this close" to inking a deal with Philo to take over the reigns at Celine. Rumors have been swirling in Paris that an announcement about the new move could come as early as September and Philo's first collection will subsequently be presented in March.

Meanwhile, you should head on over to Gap and pick up as many cute pieces from their limited edition European collection as possible. Why? Well, while Philo has been itching to make her back into the high fashion ring, she's been "secretly" designing for the European Gap. Yeah, all of those Chloe-esque chunky wedges and adorable dresses, that's all Philo, baby.

Is shopping at Louis Vuitton a cultural event?

Many people think of a trip to the Louis Vuitton store on the Champs-Élysées in Paris as a pilgrimage to fashion and it seems an appeals court may agree. They ruled that LVMH can keep the store open Sundays because it is a cultural experience. The French Christian Labor Union was behind the suit to force the closure of the store on Sundays. Shops are supposed to be closed on Sundays but can stay open if they have a "cultural, recreational or sportive" aspect to their business. In May 2006 the store was ordered to close on Sundays. LVMH appealed and won. The store does have art exhibits on the top floor.
