The Worst of the 2009 Golden Globes - StyleFoul!

Filed under: Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Red Carpet Trends

We love awards season, because it gives us so much material to work with! Last night at the Golden Globes we were by turns impressed, bored and of course, horrified. Since the horrors are the most fun to discuss, let's get right to those.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard at MoMa film benefit - StyleFoul!

(How did this happen? Click the photo to see the evolution of Peter's freaky face fuzz)

Maggie Gyllenhaal looked ethically questionable but gorgeous here, wearing a fox stole-looking item at a film benefit gala at the Museum of Modern Art on November 10, 2008 in New York City. She attended the event with her partner -- record scratch -- holy cripes, what the heck happened to Peter Sarsgaard?!

Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Battalion - I want that!

Green actress Maggie Gyllenhaal sported the eco-chic line The Battalion at the recent GenArt SOYJOY fashion show in NYC. Although it is you're typically little black dress paired with tights, booties, and belt, what killed it was the silhouette. That beautifully draped skirt is so modern and works with so many body types. Swoon!

Goth fashion show at The Dark Knight premiere

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

The Dark Knight is receiving a huge amount of buzz, largely due to the astounding performance of the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. Apparently he is riveting, and this "sequel" maintains the high standards of excitement and action set by director Chris Nolan's 2005 Batman Begins.

We love us some Christian Bale around here, especially when he's dressed up, like at the film's New York premiere on July 14th. Naturally he looked devastating, and even better, everyone at the screening looked goth. They were all dressed in black, as if for a funeral, or a wake. Which in a way, they sort of were.

I want that! Dries van Noten dress

Maggie Gyllenhaal, talented actress and sister of Jake, looked absolutely stunning at the premier of the Dark Knight in New York City. We love her old school appeal (see red lips) and her sometimes risky choices. As most risks go, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but this was a swoosh!

And such a versatile dress. Here it is glammed up but couldn't you see it paired down with some metallic flip flops for a chilled out fiesta too?

Celebrity fashion at the Dark Knight premiere

We knew the Dark Knight premiere would be a big event. Heath Ledger's death has drawn even more attention to what was already sure to be a mega hit. What we didn't know was that the most random celebrities ever would be invited!

Maggie Gyllenhaal gets jokerized on magazine cover

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We're used to seeing celebrities reshaped and twisted into impossible poses using a little photoshop magic, but when it comes to tweaking lighting effects to ridiculous levels, Tatler magazine might be breaking new ground. Remember in the first Batman, where Jack Nicholson's joker invented a green gas that turned people into grinning corpses? That's pretty much the first thing we thought of when we say the cover of Tatler's August issue.

Perhaps the photo editor was actually trying to make some kind of reference to the latest Batman movie, but they probably should have given some kind of a disclaimer. This image is making people wonder if the folks at Tatler thought that Maggie was cast as the villan. Maggie does possess that quirky kind of beauty, especially those light colored eyes. When you crank up the brightness 300%, she looks kind of demonic.

Maggie Gyllenhaal posed in her undies 'as an art project'

Filed under: Swimwear and Lingerie, Celebrities with Style

Last summer we brought you the news that Maggie Gyllenhaal was posing in sexy skivvies for lingerie maker Agent Provocateur. At the time the world wasn't quite sure they were ready for the quirky actress to tempt us in seductive underoos, and it sounds like Maggie wasn't too sure about it either.

She told the UK's Metro newspaper that:

"I couldn't believe how it made me look. The whole thing was a pleasure to do. When they came out, though, I was a bit surprised. Somehow I hadn't understood that there'd be all these pictures of me out there in my underwear. I did it as an art project."

Erm. OK. Seems to me if you'd ever heard of Agent Provocateur, seen one of their TV ads (don't watch that at the office, by the way), or picked up one of their catalogs you'd be pretty clear that modeling for them meant posing in next to nothing. Maggie, on the other hand, is apparently not a master of the obvious.

Maggie Gyllenhaal to model "world's most erotic lingerie"

Filed under: Stores We Love, Swimwear and Lingerie, Celebrities with Style

Agent Provocateur, the UK-based lingerie company well-known for the over-the-top sexual innuendo in their advertising (like this banned Kylie Minogue ad you shouldn't watch at work), has found a new face for their brand. After recently ditching UK supermodel Kate Moss, the company will now use Maggie Gyllenhaal to model their sexy wares.

An Agent Provocateur spokesperson wouldn't say exactly why they choose the quirky actress, although when they dropped Kate Moss, the company mentioned they were looking for a younger face.

But if you ask me, Gyllenhaal's been a shoe-in for the job ever since Secretary came out five years ago. If anything says "willing to push the envelope," it's letting the world watch you get spanked over and over by James Spader. Creepy.

The campaign is set to hit the Internets on September 1, so keep your eyes peeled.
