Uber-high heels - Is pain the price of fashion?

Not all fashionistas wear heels, but we doubt any stylish woman's eyes don't light up a little when she sees a really beautiful stiletto. Really high heels are really a work of art -- as is walking in them. But, that's not stopping women around the world from reaching for heels that have half a foot or more of height.

Hilary Duff in Manolo shoe booties - I want that!

The always adorable Hilary Duff stepped out at a Manolo Blahnik event in what else, a pair of Manolo shoe booties! She accessorized her shoes with a feminine ruffled Chloe top and Herve Leger skirt. And in true Duff style, she used a belt chain and big, heavy chandelier earrings to toughen things up.

Doesn't she always have the best accessories too? Give us those earrings, then shoot us straight up to heaven because we'd be ready!

• Manolo Blahnik "Vella" shoes, Barneys, $755
• Chloe printed blouse, Net a Porter, $495
• Herve Leger high waisted pencil skirt, Intermix, $550

Designer Manolo Blahnik honored on Rodeo Drive's Walk of Style

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Shoes

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events

Shoes illuminated the night sky above Rodeo Drive's super high-end boutiques like sprinkles on cupcakes.

Designer Manolo Blahnik received the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award from the City of Beverly Hills in honor of his contributions to the worlds of fashion and entertainment. What better way to honor a shoe designer than giving him his own 'walk.' And he deserves it. From Sex and The City's Carrie Bradshaw to Marie Antoinettte herself, Blahnik's unique view of women's footwear has made its mark on Hollywood.

Unlike the traditional Hollywood Walk of Fames, where stars litter the boulevard, the Rodeo Walk of Style has been completely classy through its like five years of operation, celebrating only the most well-known names in the world of style.
Blahnik joins style legends Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford, Herb Ritts, Mario Testino, Edith Head, James Acheson, Milena Canonero; Salvatore Ferragamo, Gianni and Donatella Versace and James Galanos.

Pay attention to the shoes in the gallery. They are all Manolo Blahniks, of course.

I want that! Peach Alice + Olivia dress

Kelly Ripa is best known as Regis' hilarious and loveable sidekick on "Regis and Kelly." But if you don't watch the show you wouldn't know she's also a loving mother of three. Here she proves her love by taking the kiddies out to a special screening of new children's movie "Fly Me to the Moon" in New York on July 31.

But we aren't heard to discuss parenthood now are we? What we can say is that Kelly has 100% mastered the art of pairing a dress with shoes. Here she looks just (insert corny joke) "peachy" in her eye popping gown. Her look is youthful yet age approp....ah to hell with it! She is just a MILF with great style, period. End article.

• Alice + Olivia tie neck pleated dress, Singer 22, $229

• Manolo Blahnik "Nous", Barney's, $675

Why aren't you wearing this? Manolo Blahnik Metallic Mary Jane

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Shoes, Must Haves

If you're going to splurge on an insanely fabulous pair of shoes, you need to ask yourself this question: Do I want a classic style that will always work, or do I want something amazingly trendy that will turn everyone's head? Because, you know, you can't have it all.

That is, unless you have these.

Shoes of the Day: Manolo Blahnik Ankle Boot

manolo blahnik calf hair ankle boot
It must be January because retailers are selling off their fall/winter inventories like...they're making room for spring!

Neiman Marcus is taking an extra 40% off selected items that are already on sale (some up to 60% off), including a pair of Manolo Blahnik Ankle Boots that are originally $890, on sale for $668, on top o f which Neiman Marcus will knock off 40% at checkout.

The boots come in a purplish wine color (shown) and black hair-calf with black leather straps and buckles on both. With a short little mini dress and opaque tights in a similar hue, these boots will be great for the rest of January, through February, and into March.

Manolo Blahnik Red Sequin Pump

Manolo Blahnik Shiny Sequin Pump, Red
There's no place like home ...

Because 'The Wizard of Oz' is my favorite movie of all time, I feel that I am required to purchase these shoes.

You see, when I was a kid my parents bought me a pair of red shoes. The shoes weren't even sparkly but I still called them my "Dorothy" shoes. In every picture taken of me that year, I kid you not; I held my leg up in the air so my shoes would be in the shot. I think it's safe to say that I can credit the Wizard of Oz for my unhealthy shoe obsession today.

Manolo Blahnik finally stepped away from his more classic styles to bring us this wildly wonderful pair of shoes. These 4 inch heels are covered in shiny sequins in your choice of red or fuchsia and will set you back a cool $585, a small price to pay for a bit of nostalgia and hundreds of compliments.

Stylefoul: Putting the "man" back in Manolo Blahnik

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

Ugly shoesWhen one thinks of "Manolo Blahnik", two things usually come to mind. The first is, of course, the dainty (although sometimes scarily veiny) feet of Ms. Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. The second thing is usually the word "fabulous".

Well, Manolo Blahnik is now trying to work some of his shoe magic on the male crowd through this collection of, um, monstrosities. Thank goodness the collection only has six pieces, because I don't think my eyes or poor heart could take looking at many more photos. Blahnik has approached the line with some serious aggression in both pattern and palette. I mean, experimentation is fun and all, but the end result of a lot of these is just sad. Just look at that perfectly good blue shoe, cut into bits. Where would a guy wear that? A formal beach? And don't even get me started on that scary leopard print sandal. Wow, I actually almost typed "sCandal" because my subconscious is so outraged.

Sorry, Blahnik, but Carrie would never let Mr. Big anywhere near these.

Converse Allstars as high heels? This is a joke, right?

Ugh. Just...ugh.Not everything that's cool in its own right deserves to be combined. For instance, I love eating ice cream. I love watching TV. I would not love eating my television.

Apparently this was not so obvious to whoever designed these Manolo Blahnik Dark Denim Kiddies. While I'm as enamored with my Converse Allstars as the next person, and would probably dig having a denim pair, turning them into $699 pointy-toed heels (currently on sale at $299 -- I wonder why) was the dumbest fashion mistake I've seen since Louis Vuitton tried pawning his $2,400 laundry bag off on hapless celebrities like Kelly Osborne.

But maybe I'm being harsh. After all, I don't wear heels, so ladies, this is really your problem, not mine.

Would you wear these Manolo Blahnik Dark Denim Kiddies?

Manolo takes to the web

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Shoes

For years I've enjoyed the shoe-centered bloggy stylings of Manolo the Shoeblogger. Now his inspiration, the one-and-only Manolo Blahnik has launched his own website and promises to update it with his thoughts and information on the latest designs. The site also includes a bio of the designer, a news section and a listing of boutiques. If Manolo blogs with half as much wit and flair the web will be a very shoe-happy place indeed.

Louboutin-like for less

Filed under: Stores We Love, Accessories, Shoes

If Manolo Blahniks are the table wine of expensive designer shoes, then Christian Louboutins would have to be the Bordeaux. Unfortunately, like the good Bordeaux, you'd need pretty deep pockets to justify the expense of a pair of Louboutins.

With Oh Deer shoes, you can have the look of the Louboutin without the insane price tag. Much like the beloved Louboutins, Oh Deer shoes have the coveted red soles of their pricier brethren. With up-to-date styles and comfortable platforms to minimize the pain of 4 inch heels, Oh Deer shoes are the modest-budget's faux-Bordeaux. You know -- that nameless wine with a great AOC, which also happens to taste JUST like that $70 bottle the wine guy tried to sell you.

Post-holiday sales: Bergdorf Goodman

Bergdorf Goodman has begun their deep discounting for the end of the year and there are some tempting items. The item shown here is the Bulgaro boot by Manolo Blahnik. Part pirate fantasy, part businessman's oxford, the boot was $1,295 but can now be bought for $777 (40% off). Other items include handbags, clothes, candles and jewelry. Hopefully Santa left a BG gift card in your stocking.

Are the Manolos worth it?

Just a few years ago, most people probably thought Manolo was an Italian wine. Then along came "Sex and the City" and everyone is suddenly a Blahnik addict. But one question lingers, are we just buying a name here or is the mystique (and that hefty price tag) actually worth it? Consumer Reports put it to the test comparing the classic leather pump (for $495) against a similar $69 model from Nine West.

Verdict? Yup, they're worth it. Consumer Reports tester Amanda Walker reports that the Manolos were more comfortable. The Nine West were a good value but the Manolos had superior materials and construction as well as a more stylish design. So now the next time someone questions your need for the Manolos you have a proof that the shoes really are more than just a sexy name.
