There's something different about the July issue of British Marie Claire (on stands now)... Bruno has taken over! Sasha Baron Cohen's latest alter-ego (a gay Austrian fashion reporter) is busy promoting himself and the upcoming movie, "Bruno," in true SBC form (read: no holds barred!).

Just this week Bruno got a little too close for Eminem's comfort at Sunday's 2009 "MTV Movie Awards," and now he's needled his way onto the cover of the British fashion mag.

Christy Turlington: Contributing Editor of Marie Claire

Filed under: Style in the News

It's official: the only way to push products in the fashion industry is with the help of a 90s supermodel.

Not only have they scooped up practically all of the coveted spring '09 fashion campaigns, but they are also making waves on the other side of the camera as well. Stephanie Seymour was given the title of "editor-at-large" over at the recently revamped Interview magazine and, now, the other George Michael Freedom video star, Christy Turlington, is rolling up her sleeves and working as a contributing editor over at Marie Claire.

CRHEE Womenswear: Hard to Pronounce, Easy to Covet

Marie Claire gets its own reality show

Filed under: Style in the News

Prominent fashion magazines are all itching to make the leap to reality television. Just ask Marie Claire. After watching Elle magazine's readership soar after former fashion editor Nina Garcia became associated with the hit show Project Runway, they want in on the action now, too.

This is probably why they scooped up Garcia once she was ousted from Elle for, well, not doing much of anything. But don't blame her! The show apparently kept her far too busy to work on menial things like sitting at your desk all day looking over the free designer stuff PR companies sent you in hopes of being placed in Elle.

With that, I imagine Garcia isn't doing much at her new post except for gearing up to be on another freakin' reality show! That's right. This March, Marie Claire is launching Running in Heels, a show that will give the viewers an inside look into the professional and personal lives of the editors at the mag, on the Style Network.

And yeah. That means the cameras will be following Nina Garcia, too. As the press release reads: "Cameras will capture the 24/7 demands of their roles at the magazine and, through private video confessionals, viewers will learn how the interns cope with their jobs, their superiors and each other."

This should be interesting.

Imagine a Photoshop-free magazine cover

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Now this is a group movement we can get behind! Dodai over at Jezebel tipped us off to this campaign to get a major magazine to publish a cover without any Photoshopping!

Considering the egregiously heavy handed state of retouching these days, this would be a radical move. Remember the big Faith Hill before and after Redbook cover? The weird gold Gwyneth Paltrow cover of W? The "Is that really Drew Barrymore" Vogue cover? And this Marie Claire cover of Tina Fey, where she looks great, but not quite like herself...

Seriously, when you have to make these women look "better" to sell your product, your standards of beauty are warped.

The Ray-Ban wayfarer gets remixed for summer, we're still indifferent

As we mentioned earlier, we're not totally committed to wearing Ray-Ban wayfarers on our face this summer.

To sum up our sentiments about the phenomenon known as the wayfarer in a short and succinct matter, we would like to borrow a sentence from writer Hadley Freeman, whom recently wrote about the coveted frames:

"Many a poem, many a song, many an ode has been written about the human face, but I have yet to read one that suggests it might be improved by the addition of a pair of wonkily shaped plastic glasses in some kind of neon colour."

Ooh, Hadley. It's like you were reading our minds.

Nina Garcia flees to Marie Claire?

Filed under: Style in the News

Well, it looks like someone has finally found themselves a job.

After being fired from Elle magazine for never being in her office, Project Runway judge Nina Garcia has found a new home at Hearst Publications. Apparently -- rumor has it that she is extremely close to landing a job at Marie Claire.

Project Runway: Marie Claire in. Elle out?

Filed under: Style in the News

And the drama never stops over at the Project Runway camp.

It seems like every week we are inundated with more stories of hirings, firings, and betrayals from the former Bravo TV project.

The latest juicy rumor comes courtesy of WWD:

Apparently, Marie Claire, who is published by Hearst, wants to be the mag to publish Project Runways fashion spreads once the show's contract with Elle magazine expires after this upcoming fifth season.

However, a spokeswoman for Marie Claire would beg to differ, saying: "We think 'Project Runway' is a fantastic show, but to speculate at this point beyond season five would be, as [season four winner] Christian Siriano says, 'A hot mess!'"

No, boo. The switch from Bravo to Lifetime, which your parent company owns, was a "hot mess." But that's why we can't get enough of this little soap opera. Until tomorrow...
