Ralph Lauren: Martinis you can't afford

Filed under: Haute Home, Daily Obsession

We know it seems like a strange time to take a break from reality and practice the blissful escapism that is the American dream -- but why the hell not fantasize about a martini shaker that you totally can't afford. This entire week, we've been daydreaming about retardedly expensive luxury items like Louis Vuitton yachts. Maybe it's the turmoil in the financial markets, or maybe this Ralph Lauren cocktail shaker really would make martinis taste $275 better than the ones at Target.

We can tell you one thing for sure -- pouring a martini from this leather-wrapped cocktail shaker would make you look a lot more like James Bond. Might even make important people crowd around you at parties. It certainly looks a lot more like our vision of the American dream. The one where we float around on a yacht all day wearing Polo shirts, drinking martinis with JFK and fixing the world's problems all day.

For $295, it better turn Smirnoff into Grey Goose.

Bottoms up! Give the Betsey Johnson Stirred Pantini Shaker for Valentine's Day

Trying to decide on a gift for the special lady in your life this Valentine's Day? Should you give her something funny? Sexy? Practical? Why not hit all of the above (sort of) with Betsey Johnson's Stirred Pantini Shaker?

  • Funny -- Okay, you've got panties stuffed inside a martini shaker. There's no way that's not going to bring on a giggle or two.

  • Sexy -- Betsey Johnson isn't going to give you plain old granny panties, that's for sure. Each shaker contains three low-rise thongs embellished with lace trim, a small bow, and rhinestone detail.

  • Practical -- Well, embellished thongs might not be the most practical undies you can find, but put that together with a cool martini shaker, and I think you've given a gift that will be totally useful. Think about it: A martini or two now, pretty panties later ...
Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Swanky martini set for the indecisive

swanky martini setWhether you take it shaken or stirred, made of vodka or made of gin, garnished with a twist or an olive, the martini will never go out of style. Since that's the case, you could keep the same martini glasses forever, but what kind of fun is that? This pack of 12 glasses from the Swank Martini Company lets you change up your martini style each time you drink. Here's a hint - if you find yourself going back to one particular style of Swinger, Metro, Omega, Satin Breeze, Swerve', Parisian, Vibe, Chillin', A Twist, The Diva, Cosmo, and Flirtini, you can always order an entire set of the same glasses.

Summer cocktails

Cosmopolitan magazine is well known for its provocative and sometimes inappropriate sex advice. However, from my inside sources (girlfriends), I find out the other secrets hiding within those pages of perfume samples and bikini models.

This week - summer cocktail recipes. Summer's halfway over, but it's not getting any colder outside. Cosmo has prepared a fine list of colorful cocktails that don't just taste good, but look the part as well (and are sure to impress the ladies).

The watermelon martini is destined to be a poolside favorite, while the kerasi (Greek for "cherry") is more of a Hey, let's go watch the sunset kind of drink.

I've learned, albeit slowly, that having a go-to cocktail recipe for female guests is an absolute necessity. Guys, take note. Ladies, slip this list in his mailbox.
