At only 19, the Russian emigre gymnastics star Nastia Liukin already has a Wikipedia entry longer than most KGB files. And it doesn't even talk about the fun stuff.

Certainly her stellar athletic career (2008 Olympic gold medalist for the U.S.; multiple World Championships) warrants the million words of dry sports statistics. But the fact that she both collaborates on designing a girls' line for Vanilla Star Jeans and is the spring/summer face of Max Azria is glossed over in exactly one sentence.

Let's ask her about it, shall we?

I want that! Malin Akerman in Max Azria

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

You might recognize Swedish born actress Malin Akerman from flicks like 27 Dresses, The Heartbreak Kid, Harold & Kumar, and the 2006 season of Entourage.

Though we certainly recognized her face, we never knew her name nor did we know she had such a killer sense of style. We proudly introduce to ourselves as well as our readers to, Malin Akerman; in a completely insane Max Azria dress.

Malin is on the trend tip with her pointed toe pumps, dusty plum hue, layers, hemline, and batwinged sleeves. What we love most is that she can actually wear all of these trends without looking over the top.

In the words of the wise Tim Gunn, "Well done!" Hope to see you 'round some more Malin!

Max Azria thinks Hilary Clinton is sexy.

You knew that the Olympics and Hilary Clinton were going to inspire designers this season. BCBG Max Azria was no exception. The designer admitted that that both Mrs. Clinton and the impending Olympics were two of the biggest influences for his Spring 2009 collection.

We would have to agree. The show was full of empowering jumpsuits, rompers, and dresses that would make any woman feel as commanding as Hilary. And as Max Azria put it, the "silky, floating fabrics" were certainly reminiscent of strong and sexy Grecian goddesses who probably stood at the very first Olympics.

To keep the collection "contemporary," Azria chose to mix trends like jumpers, asymmetrical cuts and dusty colors with his signature looks.

Stylist poll: to fake your bangs or not?

Filed under: Hair Care, Polls and Quizzes

Today's Stylist poll is about fake bangs. Should you or shouldn't you, would you or wouldn't you?

We say, OMG yes!

Bangs can be the hardest hairstyle to pull off successfully, unless you're Heidi Klum, with an amazing face and 24/7 groomers to make sure they are exactly the right length at all times. Plus, growing them out takes forever.

But fake bangs take all of the maintenance, and commitment, out of the equation.

Prada, pictured here, went (as usual) for an ultra faux bang look. Fakies also turned up, just slightly more natural looking, at the Hervé Léger by Max Azria for Fall '08.

If those are too outré for you, there is always the standard sex kitten clip-on heavy bang, available across the internets for pocket change.

So, are you in or are you out? Go vote!

Dress of the Day: BCBG Max Azria Poplin Pouf

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

bcbg max azria poplin poufGirls, it is week two of the new year. Do you know where your waistline is?

So maybe that new "diet" that you've been following as a new year's resolution hasn't quite kicked in yet. Well, did you expect to regain that hourglass figure in a matter of days? Not to worry! Since it is technically still Fall/Winter, we can take advantange of what has been a hot silhouette in dresses: high waistlines. We love any dress with an empire waist that lets us breathe around the middle, and we love the gathered, empire waist and full skirt of the babydoll for its figure forgiveness even more. We'll be looking at these all week!

Though BCBG Max Azria's Poplin Pouf Dress isn't exactly a babydoll dress, it does feature the high, empire waist that not only has a self-tie, but is elasticized, even though it narrows into a sleek pencil skirt. The sleeves are ¾-length with a dramatic pouf.

The dress is $180 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Dress of the Day: BCBG Strapless Taffeta with Bow

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

bcbg max azria dtrapless taffeta cocktail dressI am guessing that this weekend, you are twirling off to a casual get-together with work friends tonight, then off to a real Holiday party Saturday night with your beau. It might be a little late to figre out what to do for tonight, but for tomorrow, if tomorrow's fete is a cocktail party, the Strapless Tafetta Cocktail Dress by Max Azria BCBG might fit the bill. Sky-high patentn leather stiletto pumps, diamond and pearl earrings, and a sparkly little clutch will complete the outfit.

The dress has an empire waist that is highlighted with what is the most fetching part of the dress: a contrasting ivory bow. The hemline falls gracefully to the knee, and the back is emebellished with a "train." It sounds a tad bit bridesmaid-y, but it's definitely better than wearing that hot pink chiffon number you had to wear this summer for your girlfriend's wedding.

The strapless tafetta dress is $398 at Nordstrom.

Dress of the Day: BCBGirls Jemma Knit Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

bcbgirls jemma knit dressWe've already talked about what kinds of things you want to wear when you're heading over to someone's house to beging a Holiday gorging like you haven't done since, well, last year. The three things you want to keep in mind are 1) loose, little, or no waistline, 2) stretchy fabrics that will grow with you throughout the day and into the evening, and 3) dark colors or patterns to hide those temporary turkey-induced figure flaws.

The Jemma Knit Dress by BCBGirls hits most of those. Though it does have a waistline, it's an empire, which means it will sit comfortably above your belly. Knit fabrics naturally stretch, and the zigzag stripe pattern will create an illusion. The dress also has blouson sleeves that are three-quarter length, so you won't be dipping your cuffs into the cranberry sauce.

Nordstrom carries the Jemma Knit Dress for $158.

Dress of the Day: BCBG Twist Knot Jersey Dress

bcbg max azria jersey twist knot dressI am really feeling the jersey fabrics right now, partly because of how flattering it can be when it drapes, and partly because the material is softer and more comfortable than my own skin.

I love this jersey dress by BCBG Max Azria with the three-quarter-length puffed sleeves and the slightly loose top with the twist knot. The dropped waistline gives it a '20s feel, which looks great with the ankle strap shoes as shown, but would look even cuter with a T-strap! The dress shown is dark blue gray, and also comes in black.

The dress is $158. I found it at Amazon.

Fashion Week Pick of the Show: BCBG Max Azria

Filed under: Runway Trends, Events: On the Scene, Clothing

bcbg max azria spring 2007It's the height of New York's Fashion Week and can you believe that we haven't even picked a single "favorite" yet?!?! Shame on us! While we certainly can't limit ourselves to picking our all-time number one favorite from the entire week, we can at least try to pick the one look we loved the best from each show, and one that we think we might actually replicate in real-life. We'll start with Max Azria because in our former life, we were slaves to BCBG.

Oh Max, where on earth have you been digging for all your designs for Spring? The back of a Ford F-150 straight off a potato farm in Idaho? Half your dresses, usually so feminine, so flirty, so downright pretty, looked like... shiny potato sacks. But hey, at least they were ready-to-wear potato sacks.

But the one look we loved, the one that made us say "yessss" was the pair of slippery silver trousers and bubble hem strapless top in the geometric black and blue print. Oh, we loved that, Max, yes we did.
