I want that! Christina Aguilera in Miu Miu

Christina Aguilera isn't on the scene all that much these days. But when she is, she certainly still knows how to turn it on. Case in point, her Julian MacDonald dress and insane Miu Miu heels at the opening party of the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Dubai.

Though we thought the dress was adorable from the flirty front, it wasn't until we saw the sheer back that we went gaga. As for the shoes? There are no words. We. Need. You.

Model.Live Episode 2: Cato says good-bye

Filed under: Style in the News

Last month, Vogue announced it would be teaming up with IMG models to present an online TV series that followed three new models -- Cato Van Ee, Madeline Kragh, and Austria Alcantara -- as they made their way to New York for fashion week, documenting all of the trials and tribulations that come with trying to make yourself stand out in a very competitive industry.

The series debuted on August 19 and all of the episodes thus far have showed the models saying good-bye to their loved ones in order to beging that long and arduous journey known as Fashion Week. Cato, the Holland beauty who walked Miu Miu and Prada exclusively last season, has parents that are, rightfully so, worried about what the modeling industry has in store for their daughter.

Her mother, in fact, would prefer if she didn't become famous because "she doesn't know too many people who are famous that are happy." In this clip, watch as her buddies throw her a farewell party and her parents lament on the risks of becoming a model.

Miu Miu replaces Kirsten Dunst with Johnny Depp's main dish

In the words of the German genius, Heidi Klum, "In fashion, one day you're in and the next you're out." So be it. Miu Miu has replaced Kirsten Dunst with Johnny Depp's main squeeze, Vanessa Paradis.

Kick up your heels and go crazy

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Shoes

It used to be the height of a heel that made a shoe stand out in a crowd but now it's all about how crazy you can get 'em. Spring 2008 shoes are taking stilettos to a whole new level with jeweled, caged, flowered, bubbled and bowed heels.

Out of all of the crazy heels I like jeweled heels the most. Miuccia Prada is my go-to girl for jeweled heels with her Miu Miu line. Choose from tiny crystal covered heels or go with something more decadent like a pair of killer silver spiked heel with a jeweled upper portion. But Miuccia isn't only about jewels ... so if flower is more your power try these tulip heels from Prada's collection, they will certainly add a little spring to your step (cheesy, I know).

With these shoes the heels aren't the only crazy part, the prices are pretty loopy too. Most of these shoes are well over $600 but fear not, with any trend the designs will trickle down to an affordable retailer near you.

Can you imagine Jessica in Miu Miu?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Last week, Sarah reported that Lindsay Lohan would be the new face of Miu Miu. Most of us greeted the news with a dose of skepticism -- Lindsay wearing Miu Miu? You must be kidding!

Well, according to a story in the New York Post, La Lohan was not Miu Miu's only pick. Miu Miu had originally considered Jessica Simpson for the ad campaign, but her name was quickly nixed from the short list once the Miu Miu photographers heard that she was in the running.

As the story unfolded, it became clear that the problem wasn't so much Jessica Simpson. It was her beloved hairstylist, Ken Paves. A few months earlier, photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott were scheduled to shoot Simpson for a spread in Vanity Fair. Like normal professional photographers, Alas and Piggott insisted upon using their own hair and makeup people. Simpson, however, refused to let anyone other than Paves touch her precious blonde locks. Alas and Piggott considered Paves "tacky" and "amatuerish," and refused to work with him.

Naturally, Jessica took this all very personally and refused to do the shoot for Vanity Fair. At the time, it probably seemed like small potatoes. But the stubborn, prima donna move ended up costing her a shot at becoming the face of Miu Miu.

I guess what's true in life is true in the world of fashion: what goes around comes around.

Lindsay Lohan will be the face of Miu Miu

lindsay lohanShunned first by projects, then by Louis Vuitton, it looks like Miss Lohan has finally weaseled her way into someone's favor. The teen actress (is she really a teen anymore?) has been chosen to be the face of Miu Miu's ad campaign for Spring 2007. What on earth could Miu Miu have been thinking? Who knows, maybe Lindsay is giving them a bargain.

Sorry that this is such a short post. I really have nothing else to say about this. You know what they say. "If you don't have something nice to say..."

Fall's Sexiest Shoes

Some people might think that the sexiest shoes come out in the springtime. And who can blame them? After all, it's hard to debate the overall sex appeal of a strappy sandal with a three inch heel. But that doesn't mean that we should all start belittling the alluring offerings of colder season kicks.

I'm of the opinion that luxe fabrics, good design and unique embellishments can more than make up for a lack of skin. And this fall's offering of shoes certainly does not disappoint. Between the boots, the heels, the platforms, and yes, the flats, we're well on our way to stealing the title of "Sexiest Shoe Season" from the warm-weathered spring.

Here are a few of our favorites:

Jimmy Choo Eleven leopard print pumps
What could be more sexy than leopard print and a sweet little heel? While many people might be put off by the busy leopard pattern, this shoe is actually extremely wearable. Pair them with black, white, denim, camel, or red and you are ready to go. Hot to trot, if you will.

Miu Miu Velvet jewel shoes

As far as shoes go, flats tend to get shafted when it comes to their sex appeal. But sexy doesn't have translate into a three inch heel. If you substitute the stiletto for a luxurious fabric like a rich velvet, flat shoes can be just as desirable as their taller siblings. Slip on these bejeweled shoes, and everyone will notice.

Would you wear this shoe?

Filed under: Runway Trends, Accessories, Clothing, Shoes

What's big, unbalanced and bulky all over?

No, it's not Pam Anderson's brassiere (but good guess!). I'll give you a hint: Balenciaga has one. Marc Jacobs has one. Miu Miu has one. It's this season's platform heels.

Sure, I suppose these new platform heels push the limits of shoe design. And maybe they even shock us all out of our bourgeois preference for "pretty" shoes.

But am I the only one who is going to call a spade a spade in this situation?

If I am, fine -- I'll happily do it -- because, fashionfans and fashioneditors, these shoes are ugly. As in "U-G-L-Y, you ain't got no alibi, you ugly, hey, hey, you ugly!"

And they're not even that original. In fact, I've seen this shoe before, Balenciaga. So don't even think you're fooling me with this one.

Admit it! You totally stole this design off of Minnie Mouse! Just look how mad she is...

The strange allure of Miu Miu's wooden wedges

miu miu wedgeI'm not an obsessed shoe junkie most of the time but the new baroque wedges from Miu Miu have been haunting my dreams ever since they started popping up in all the fashion magazines. Something about these shoes with their distressed, raised pattern wood wedges that look like they were pulled straight off a building just does it for me. They look well-nigh impossible to wear and aren't really that flattering to the foot so perhaps it's just the allure of walking on architecture that has me so ensnared. At $645, these wedges with their slim patent straps probably won't be gracing my house anytime soon but a girl can dream.
