Are Thigh High Boots the New Leggings?

If we've learned anything from Blair Waldorf, it's that tights are not pants. Leggings barely make the cut. However, maybe, just maybe, boots could be. Perhaps. Oh, alright, we can't get on board with that, either.

Did you know superheros are taking over the Met next month?

Next month, chic men and women of all walks of life will descend upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the name of fashion and fabulousity.

This year, the Met has chosen "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" as the theme of its annual Spring exhibit.

Co-chaired by Giorgio Armani, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the exhibit will feature 70 ensembles inspired by such comic-book characters as Catwoman, Wonder Woman, the X-Men, and many more.

Jesse Kamm: Spring 2008 collection

Filed under: Runway Trends, Clothing, Dresses

Earlier this year, I was left kind of shocked and dumbfounded when I found out that major fashion designers like Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, and Alber Elbaz hardly ever -- if at all -- used the internet.

Prada presents "Trembled Blossoms"

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Miuccia Prada has been all about the multimedia experiments over the past couple of years. Trembled Blossoms is her latest product. The short film -- 4 minutes in length, to be exact -- was presented during L.A. Fashion Week. It had previously been shown during New York Fashion Week.

The film is considered to be a "classic animated cartoon, supported by modern techniques." It was directed by James Lima.

Of course, all of Hollywood was there to see the grand debut. When a big fashion name comes knocking on L.A.'s door, you don't say no. Otherwise the most exciting thing you'll see at L.A. Fashion Week is Lauren Conrad's new collection. Woohoo.

Anyways, L.A.'s finest came out for the night and they were definitely dressed to impress. To see some of the hits and misses of the evening click through the gallery. But, first a warning. There were a few great outfits, but mostly, just a whole lot of crazy. Be prepared.

Prada runs with the big boys

Milan is all abuzz over the incredible show that Miuccia Prada put on this week. Her clothes are being touted as revolutionary. People have even gone so far as to say that Prada is the way of the future. And if not the way of the future, Prada will at the very least be show of the year.

The collection feature was Swiss guipure, an insanely hard to work with lace. Miuccia said, "Our financial controller is breathing down my neck as people normally order 20 or 30 meters. But I ordered 700 meters. We had them working all night in Switzerland."

A pair of Swiss guipure leggings even made their way down the runway. Lindsay Lohan single handedly ruined the leggings trend for me, but seeing them redone in such a beautiful material rekindled my love.

The risk that Miucca took in working with such a challenging material definitely paid off. The clothes are absolutely stunning. I think I actually drooled a little bit while looking through the photos. And the best thing is, they are wearable! I can imagine an actress like Cate Blanchett making her way down the red carpet in one of these dresses and landing on every best dressed list.

Every look that walked down the runway gave off the aura of a self-assured woman. These clothes are all about confidence and femininity. Browse through the gallery and tell me what you think.

Miuccia Prada might have issues with men

prada fall/winter collection menswear
When asked about her menswear collection for Fall/Winter 2008, Miuccia Prada said that "the collection was revenge on men for the social and sartorial contortions they impose on women." She laughed, so maybe Ms. Prada was joking.

Or maybe she purposely emasculated men by sending them sashaying down the runway in high-collar shirts that buttoned up the back like a blouse, pants without zippers, and best (worst?) of all, tutus.

Women's clothing is often inspired by styles that are more typically male and calls it "menswear," so why wouldn't the inspiration go the other way? It's just that women's menswear takes the more superficial style elements like fabrics, colors and small details, but still maintains the practical function of the clothing. Prada's collection renders men's clothing more complicated than it was before. I get that she's trying to make a point, but will we really see men donning tutus this Fall?

Lindsay Lohan will be the face of Miu Miu

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

lindsay lohanShunned first by projects, then by Louis Vuitton, it looks like Miss Lohan has finally weaseled her way into someone's favor. The teen actress (is she really a teen anymore?) has been chosen to be the face of Miu Miu's ad campaign for Spring 2007. What on earth could Miu Miu have been thinking? Who knows, maybe Lindsay is giving them a bargain.

Sorry that this is such a short post. I really have nothing else to say about this. You know what they say. "If you don't have something nice to say..."
