Meet the models

They are everywhere -- magazines, television, and events. And after being bombarded with images of fashion week, we've begun to wonder – who are the girls in the clothes?

Now we have heard designers say that models are just "hangers," implying that they are otherwise meaningless and Iman stating much of the same, "human hangers" with no personality. But we beg to differ. There are a handful of bright young things that are on verge becoming the next Kate's, Gisele's and Naomi's.

Let's take a closer look and start putting names to those beautiful faces.

Multicultural runways - it's about time!

Filed under: Style in the News, Fashion Week

The past few months the fashion industry has been buzzing about the obvious preference for white models. Fashion photographer Nick Knight expressed his anger months ago with an insane online video featuring a sexy Naomi Campbell shooting up a fashion show. While many agents, magazines and other industry insiders claim that there is simply a shortage of models of color, Knight makes it clear in his vid that this is just not true.

Is Gemma Ward retiring from modeling?

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News

(Should she retire? Click the photo to see Gemma's hottest looks)

Right around this time each year, rumors begin to run rampant about key fashion week faces, so we're going to take this latest bit of news about a certain IMG catwalker with a grain of salt:

Apparently, former Prada campaign girl, Gemma Ward, will soon be officially retiring from modeling -- opting instead to pursue a career in Hollywood as an actress. Earlier this year, Gemma stared in two films: The Strangers, where she played an evil killer who hides behind a mask and The Black Balloon, a feel good film where Gemma plays the girlfriend of boy trying to cope with his brother's mental disability.

One time in an interview, Gemma said she only began modeling because people told her it would help her acting career. So the jump to become a full-time actress isn't that big of stretch. Plus, with acting, no one will probably care as much when the already thin 6'0 beauty decides to eat hamburger or some other food no one should be freaking out about.

I want that! Siwy denim and Hunter wellies

Kate Moss. We <3 this old broad. First of all she's well into her 30's but totally parties like a rockstar... err, a supermodel. And her fashion sense is off the charts. We can admit we will probably never be as cool as her.

Here she is at the Glastonbury Festival in Someset England, a three day extravaganza that is a must see if you ever cross the pond.

Anywho, Kate is walking to go see the Kills play on stage in her cool khaki coat, Siwy jeans, and Hunter wellies. *sigh* We only wish we could look so good in our wellies.

Tip of the day: Best drugstore mascaras

Filed under: Cosmetics, Celebrities with Style, Style Tip of the Day

Over the last decade that we've been wearing makeup (yeah we had one of those dad's that forbid it until we were 16... laaaaame), we have probably tested every single mascara available at our local drugstore – no kidding. We had a great time testing over the years, particularly during a brief period of CVS employment that was strictly for the cosmetic discount. It was basically a crazed 2 month makeup rampage... ahhh the memories.

So after all of this time, we are pleased to share our findings with you.

Tip of the day: Suit up part 4, Tall

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Style Tip of the Day

Oh those lanky, leggy girls who can wear just about anything. Yes, that means the lucky few like Whitney Port, Blake Lively, Paris Hilton, and the fierce (and seriously scary) Naomi Campbell.

We dedicate the last "Suit up" installment to those long ladies that we secretly despise for their limby... uh... ness.

Many of us women out there suffer during the summer because we don't have stems like a supermodel. Unfortunately, you can't think your legs long but you can create the illusion that they're a mile long with the right clothes. So let's put an end to your suffering and take a look at some helpful hints to getting Rockette worthy gams.

Lindsay Lohan wants models to work for free

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Times must be tough for Lindsay Lohan. Not only is the part-time TV actress too hard up to purchase her own clothing (allegedly), she's now asking models for her new line of leggings to work for free.

Believe it or not, a recent casting ad she ran asks: "Please do not send models to the casting unless they are available for shoot and call time and they agree to trade terms." BTW, "trade" is the industry euphemism for "we won't pay you, but we promise this is really good for, you know, your resume, and making connections and stuff."

And sure, we realize that the entertainment industry is a tough business to break into, so people work for free all the time. But we're not talking about some DIY hipster boutique in Brooklyn, this shoot is for a line designed by Lindsay "I've starred in a number of blockbuster movies" Lohan. The idea that she'd ask aspiring models to work for nothing is a joke.
