Sex and the City sequel (not) coming soon!

sex and the city sequelSex and the City fans were beyond thrilled to hear that Kim Cattrall confirmed a sequel being in the works next summer. Actually, thrilled is an understatement -- they were busting out the cosmos and Manolos and planning movie release parties already! However, Sarah Jessica Parker brought us all crashing back down to Earth when she announced that she has no idea what Kim's talking about.

Michelle Trachtenberg at the L.A. premiere of 'Doubt' - Your turn

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Polls and Quizzes

Is it just us, or do think Michelle Trachtenberg has the potential to be one of the most stunning women in Hollywood? She has those big eyes, a naturally full pout, and don't even get us started on the hair. But then, she wears this, and we find the whole thing so boring we hardly even notice her.

Don't get us wrong -- we are all about the Little Black Dress. And Michelle has worn the LBD with aplomb on other occasions, but this time, something is seriously lacking. Like fit. Or style.

Or maybe it's fine. Perhaps we expect too much of her. All we know is, if we looked like that, we'd find something that made us stand out just a little more. What about you?

Is Lizzy Caplan the next Angelina Jolie?

Used to be a bad accent, cheap wig and quick pair of fangs made for a hit movie about vampires. But the gay-old-days of Anne Rice, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt are over, thanks to HBO, Charlaine Harris and a little help from the surprisingly hot Lizzy Caplan. And her boobs.

Manolos over magic - SATC outsells Harry Potter

Filed under: Style in the News

It makes sense that the DVD of a movie that appeals to shoppers would have an incredible first day of sales (even if the party celebrating its release wasn't so fabulous on its own). In fact, the Sex and the City: The Movie DVD sold at the rate of approximately 90 per minute on its first day, outselling Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

What we're curious about is how many people are buying it because they didn't see it in the theater, and how many are buying it because they want to watch it over and over. We know we're itching to get our well-manicured mitts on it so we can gawk at the glamor and fashion at our leisure. How about you?

Jack Black at the UK Premier of Tropic Thunder - StyleFoul!

You know, it's not like we expect a lot from Jack Black. In fact, he's worn far worse than the "shocking" suit he sported at the Tropic Thunder premier in London, and we let it go. Hey, he's a chubby funny man who lives his look. Usually he appears to have rolled out of bed and on to the red carpet, and usually we try to appreciate (somewhere, deep in our cold, cold heart) that authenticity.

Usually.

Sean Avery's Vogue internship to be made into a movie

Filed under: Style in the News

It's been made pretty much a fact that Vogue's intern, hockey player Sean Avery, didn't do much of anything at his New York "learning" experience this summer. And yet he got to attend the super swanky Met Institute Gala, and according to recent reports, is getting his faux interesting story made into a movie.

Yes, pick your jaw up off the ground, darling. New Line Cinema is indeed going ahead with plans to make a film about the Dallas Star's sojourn into the fashion industry this year. The producers are going to make Avery's story into a romantic comedy.

So, to review: If you have an abundance of wealth and assets, you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want to do. And if you're semi-attractive, oh boy, the sky is the limit.

Anna Faris at the House Bunny premiere - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style

Anna Faris could have easily gone with a big hair and big boobs look for the premiere of her new movie, House Bunny. After all, that's pretty much how the movie is being marketed, and she's the star Bunny. However, she went another route, and we'd like to recognize how this can work for you.

Sometimes events require us to go almost as a character -- if it's a sports banquet, you're going as an athlete, and if it's a work function, you're going as an administrator, etc. However, Anna shows us that some of these occasions are the perfect time to shake things up a little. If people always see you in a business suit, try a fun dress with some funky jewelry (if appropriate, of course). If everyone knows you as the star of the volleyball team, wear something really feminine and girly. Fashion is meant to be fun, after all!

If you're loving Anna's look like we are, check out our gallery to see how you can make it work for you. And next time you have the opportunity, surprise somebody with an unexpected look!

Found Item Clothing founded by real genius

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Celebrities with Style

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

A guy named Adam started Found Item Clothing "after a faithful viewing of Real Genius." Is there any other way to view Real Genius? That's Val Kilmer's shining moment.

Sir, let me take this moment to compliment you on your fashion sense, particularly your slippers.

JCP Vs The Breakfast Club

Filed under: Style in the News, Videos

JCPenny has done one of two things for John Hughes fans, either they've brought back a great memory and provided a chuckle or they've killed a piece of their youth. Results may vary.

The new ad for JCP features a bunch of teens recreating some of the more memorable scenes from Hughes' classic movie The Breakfast Club. We LOVE The Breakfast Club so we feel very strongly that we should hate this commercial, but as embarrassing as it is for us to admit- we don't.

Goth fashion show at The Dark Knight premiere

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

The Dark Knight is receiving a huge amount of buzz, largely due to the astounding performance of the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. Apparently he is riveting, and this "sequel" maintains the high standards of excitement and action set by director Chris Nolan's 2005 Batman Begins.

We love us some Christian Bale around here, especially when he's dressed up, like at the film's New York premiere on July 14th. Naturally he looked devastating, and even better, everyone at the screening looked goth. They were all dressed in black, as if for a funeral, or a wake. Which in a way, they sort of were.

Maggie Gyllenhaal gets jokerized on magazine cover

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We're used to seeing celebrities reshaped and twisted into impossible poses using a little photoshop magic, but when it comes to tweaking lighting effects to ridiculous levels, Tatler magazine might be breaking new ground. Remember in the first Batman, where Jack Nicholson's joker invented a green gas that turned people into grinning corpses? That's pretty much the first thing we thought of when we say the cover of Tatler's August issue.

Perhaps the photo editor was actually trying to make some kind of reference to the latest Batman movie, but they probably should have given some kind of a disclaimer. This image is making people wonder if the folks at Tatler thought that Maggie was cast as the villan. Maggie does possess that quirky kind of beauty, especially those light colored eyes. When you crank up the brightness 300%, she looks kind of demonic.

Feature doc deals with beauty standards

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics, Skin Care, Celebrities with Style

After a short but successful run in Chicago, America the Beautiful, a feature length documentary by Darryl Roberts, comes to NYC, August 1st. Plans for other cities are planned but not yet confirmed, according to a recent email from the filmmaker.

Model Gerren Taylor is featured in the narrative, which looks at the beauty standard via interviews with folks in the industry like Atoosa Rubinstein and Eve Ensler.

Some critics have claimed the doc lacks focus or fails to cover new ground. We say the information prompts discussion and couldn't be more relevant. We'll follow up with a review of the film soon. Until then, check out Roberts' blog for show dates.
