Going Gaga at The Gala After-Parties

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Celebrities with Style

After the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute rolled up its red carpet Monday night, it was time for the fashion flock to compare notes at the various gala after-parties.

"The best party was [Vanity Fair editor] Graydon Carter's where Madonna made out all night -- when not doing a hoochie mama dance -- with Jesus Luz," says one snitch. "It was very weird and she looked like a mother with her child -- he's tiny!"

Naomi Campbell, who pulled out of the gala in solidarity with her designer friend Azzedine Alaia (who was having a spat with the organizers), made her presence felt at the after-parties, where the talk was who-wore-what.

Tatjana Patitz PSA for Orangutan Outreach

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

Just a couple of weeks ago we read a Jezebel post wondering what ever happened to Tatjana Patitz, one of only five models -- the others were household names Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford -- to appear on the cover of Vogue in 1990. So her name was on the tip of our tongue when we saw this (heartbreaking) PSA for Orangutan Outreach, a non-profit that works to save the critically endangered "red ape".

Naomi Campbell reports for duty at the soup kitchen - late

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

As punishment for hocking that infamous loogie on a cop at Heathrow Airport, Naomi Campbell was sentenced to 200 hours of community service at a local soup kitchen. And like the very humble and agreeable supermodel that she is, Naomi showed up -- 10 minutes late. According to reports, she then proceeded to get the soup kitchen's best attempt at VIP treatment which, while we're sure it isn't up to Campbell's standards, kinda undermines the whole reason behind why Campbell was sent there.

Oh well, people can't help but be a little starstruck when they encounter a celebrity -- much less a true supermodel -- it's pretty natural. Still, the fact that Naomi gets the cushy job filing paperwork doesn't say much for the equality of celebrities in the British justice system. One of her fellow soup kitchen workers said Naomi was treated "like a princess" and that the work at the kitchen is "usually pretty gruelling work but not for her." Guess it pays to be fashion royalty.

Multicultural runways - it's about time!

Filed under: Style in the News, Fashion Week

The past few months the fashion industry has been buzzing about the obvious preference for white models. Fashion photographer Nick Knight expressed his anger months ago with an insane online video featuring a sexy Naomi Campbell shooting up a fashion show. While many agents, magazines and other industry insiders claim that there is simply a shortage of models of color, Knight makes it clear in his vid that this is just not true.

Vogue's "Black Issue," literally flew off the shelves. It was sold out around the world in a matter of days after it's release, and the company actually reprinted more issues in order to meet the demand. Naomi Campbell switches lanes

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

If Naomi Campbell isn't happy, you're not going to want to be in close proximity to her. Remember all of those Blackberry hurling incidents?

We're not sure if this is a sign of her maturity or the fact that her London agent just may be good at dodging projectile objects, but the supermodel has left her London agency, IMG, for Europe's largest talent agency, Independent Talent Group without the cops and authorities having to get involved.

Naomi makes out with lizard for SoBe Lifewater

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Sure, she has her faults just like everybody else, but we love Naomi Campbell. We especially love watching her hot body in a swimsuit. But as we watched Tuesday night's All-Star Game, this annoying yet remarkable commercial kept appearing that somehow managed to show Naomi in a swimsuit and then totally turn us off to SoBe Life Water forever in the same 30 seconds. Congratulations, that's not an easy to do.

From Red Carpet to Your Closet: Naomi Campbell at the Africa Rising festival photocall

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

Naomi Campbell has made a name for herself by looking gorgeous. Well, by looking gorgeous and throwing phones and tantrums, anyway. But here, at the photocall to promote Thisdays' third annual "Africa Rising" music and fashion festival, Naomi looks absolutely radiant.

She does a modern take on classic look, which is something anyone can pull off. Check out the gallery to see how you can make her look work for you!

Naomi takes it off for the cover of i-D

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

(Click the image to see more celebs who went nude for magazine covers)

This is a big summer for Naomi Campbell. The supermodel is featured on the cover of Vogue's much-hyped all-black edition, and she's also appearing sans clothing on the cover of International Design.

The August issue also features Stefano Pilati of Yves St Laurent, who is using Naomi as the star of his fall ad campaigns. Presumably in the campaign Naomi will be wearing some of Stefano's designs -- and not just her birthday suit.

That said, a naked, winking Naomi Campbell can sell just about anything -- which, come to think of it, is probably exactly what i-D magazine was thinking.

Italian Vogue is all black, Paris couture show all white

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

The media has been abuzz about the July issue of Italian Vogue which will feature over 150 pages dedicated exclusively to black models and stories about successful black entertainers and performers. Famed photographer Steven Meisel -- you may remember him from his Naked Madonna days -- was selected by Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani to shoot the issue.

The issue will feature new faces like Jourdan Dunn alongside famed beauties like Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek. Sozzani says she was inspired by Barrack Obama's historic presidential campaign. Her intention was to spark conversations about race, and to demonstrate that there is more to beauty than blond, blue eyed Russian models.

Naomi snubbed at Mandela b-day party

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

Ouch
. Supermodel or not, you hock a loogie on a cop at Heathrow, you have to deal with some ugly fallout. Campbell -- who was slated to emcee a portion of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert -- was pulled when the legendary activist figure personally requested that she not be allowed to take the stage in London's Hyde Park.

We didn't know this, but apparently the supermodel was wearing a ball cap with '46664' (as in 46664 Concerts) embroidered on it at the time of her loogie arrest. That also happens to be the prison ID# Mandela wore for his 27 years on the inside.

The relationship between the supermodel and the human rights legend goes back almost a decade. Most recently, Mandela counseled Naomi for her anger problem after the 2006 cell phone incident. According to 46664 Concerts, Naomi was set to play "an integral" part in the festivities -- instead, she'll be watching from the nosebleeds.
