A brown-eyed brunette like Anne Hathaway or Julia Roberts? You pick the celeb, and then it pulls up some of their best known looks, along with with the makeup you need to recreate them. Quick Kit: help a new mom feel pretty

Filed under: Cosmetics, Kids and Babies

If anyone deserves a little something to boost her up, it's a new mom. The long nights, interrupted sleep, and crazy hormones drag you down, and those dark circles would make anyone feel less than pretty.

Of course a crying baby means no time for elaborate makeup or beauty rituals. We have lots of friends with babies and they all say the same thing: "Love the baby, hate how tired I look! Help!"

We have just the thing: a 60 second quick kit with our best perk-you-up makeup secret weapons. So small it can fit in the corner of a baby bag, so portable you can pull it out in your car, at the airport or anywhere you need a quick confidence booster.

De-winterize your face, spring beauty

Spring is finally here and I am so excited. I have suffered through winter (okay suffer is a strong word I do live in L.A) and I am ready to change seasons. With the changing of seasons comes the changing of my makeup bag and it's contents. Here are some of the spring beauty products that are on my radar and will soon be charged to my Amex after I tear through Sephora.

For the face:
Tinted moisturizer is a great option when the temperature rises. Foundations can be heavy and uncomfortable plus they don't give you that "glow." Clinique's Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator gives an amazing glow and scores tons of compliments too. If tinted moisturizers aren't your things, MAC has created a mineral makeup that has SPF for a light and skin-friendly option.

For the eyes: When it comes to buying spring cosmetics I like to get as much bang for my buck. Getting a shadow duo or full on palette is a wise move. For less than $30 you can get a 10-color palette from Sugar that will take care of all of your color needs. If you are into neon brights for spring (they are totally in style) go for this shadow duo from Nars called Rated R.

For the lips:
Nothing says spring to me like a nice pink lip color. There are some great new items out like Smashbox's O-Glow, which changes color, based on your body's chemistry. If all of that chemistry freaks you out, try something more natural like Cargo's lip color. Once you have finished your tube of lipstick you can plant it in the ground and it will sprout into a flower -- no joke.

Whatever products you choose for your face this spring just make sure they are bright, light, and cheery ... after all spring has sprung!

Beauty products that they DON'T recommend

Filed under: Hair Care, Cosmetics, Skin Care

bad beauty productsMost of the time, we find ourselves asking one another what we use for wash our faces, moisturize, get ride of zits, erase fine lines. Very rarely do we ask the opposite question, "What do you not use?" Why would we? We don't need to know about something we'd never buy and try. Still, TotalBeauty put together a list of the 12 beauty products that earned the lowest ratings from their editors. I guess the best way to use this information is to watch out:

See which products you should avoid:

  • Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss
  • Revlon Tourmaline Ionic 1875 Watt Hairdryer
  • Redken All Soft Gold Glimmer Perfecting Shine Treatment
  • Murad Firm and Tone Serum
  • NARS Body Glow
  • Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara
  • Skyn Iceland Arctic Face Mist
  • Maybelline New York Define-a-Lash Mascara
  • Lush Jungle Conditioner
  • Sally Hansen Smooth Glow Stubble Reducing Moisturizer
  • John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Answer Spray
  • Molton Brown Naran Ji Fine Liquid Hand Wash ($23)

Your search for the Big O ends with NARS

nars mulitple orgasmWomen have been in hot pursuit of it since, oh, practically the beginning of time. It's elusive, and oftentimes, women just resort to doing it themselves. A little pinch here, maybe a taptaptap there.

It's just not that easy to find a blush that imparts subtle, shimmering color and a natural flush!

But apparently, NARS's Orgasm Blush is so universally perfect in its peachy-pink hue that it has obtained cult status. NARS now has the Multiple Orgasm Set, which is the blush and bronzer duo compact and their Orgasm Lip Gloss. I can't think of a better Valentine's Day gift to give yourself.

NARS Multiple Orgasm Set is available from Sephora for $49.

Monopoly: Sephora Edition

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics

As reported by Fashion Week Daily, beauty superstore Sephora is teaming up with the makers of a classic board game to create a Sephora edition of Monopoly.

Players will collect and spend Beauty Bucks, can end up in jail for heinous offenses like "bad hair days", incur fines for streaky self-tanner, and buy Sephora bags and Sephora storefronts for their purchased property in lieu of "houses" and "hotels".

I'm not yet sure which brand name has snagged the advertising rights to the properties that will replace "Park Place and Broadway", but some of the beauty advertising gurus such as Nars, Stila, and Murad will have their names on Cheek Street, Gloss Gardens, and Cleanser Crossing, respectively.

The new Sephora edition of Monopoly retails for $45.
