Natural Beauty to Feed Your Earth Day Guilt

Filed under: Cosmetics, Skin Care, Product Reviews, Must Haves, Beauty Tips

When I was in school, we marked Earth Day by getting down and dirty at the local pond, where we pulled out nearly everything short of a rubber boot.

Today, I buy stuff.

Sometimes it's for a noble cause: the best beauty companies are using their mega-profits to help protect and prettify our planet. And other times, I simply find that naturally based products completely sweep the floor with their more conventional (and more synthetic) peers.

So whether you plan to celebrate today by planting trees, cleaning streams, or simply surfing green sites on the Internet, here are some of the best Earth-friendly beauty products to get you started.

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics, Skin Care

A lawyer holds two silicone breast implantsIs good, old fashioned natural beauty making an unexpected comeback? The popularity of surgically enhanced bodies has been skyrocketing for as long as we can remember, but it's beginning to look like the winds of change are finally blowing in the opposite direction. According to the NY Times, sales of breast implants, botox, and even less expensive facial fillers are all taking it on the chin as Americans can no longer afford to finance their way to a more idealized physique.

Pamper yourself with papaya

As far as beauty routines go, mine tends to be minimalistic: Cetaphil and cold water. But last night when I was out grocery shopping, I had a hankering for a face mask. Because it was late, and I couldn't make a trip to the drug store, I had to go with what was availible at the grocery store. The pickings were slim, but I bought Alba's Papaya Enzyme mask for $11.

When I got home, I immediately washed my face and slathered on a thin coating of the cool, light, green, slimy gel all over my face and neck. Unlike other chemical peels I've tried, Alba's papaya enzymes felt gentle. Five minutes later, I washed the masked off (which admittedly took some doing), but my face looked immediately more youthful and refreshed. Usually, I shy away from the natural beauty products at the grocery store, but sometimes necessity is the mother of good fortune.
