Models From ANTM Actually Get Work

tyra banksAmerica's Next Top Model is a guilty pleasure for many reasons: Tyra scolding the girls, Miss J being Miss J, and all of the messy, delicious drama that goes down in the House of Girl Model Wannabes. One thing it's not? A place to see someone get her start in the modeling biz. But maybe that's changing ...

Phillip Bloch calls Michelle Obama

Like so many others, we've been impressed by Michelle Obama's polished, classic and accessible fashion style. Phillip Bloch is also a huge fan, so much so that he and Forest Whitaker's wife devised a special nickname for her: "Blackie O."

Ali Stephens, quicker than lightning

While she doesn't bare an "S" across her chest, model up-and-comer Ali Stephens is somewhat of a Super Woman when it comes to wind sprints and brisk walking.

In this interview she recently did with New York Magazine, the 17-year-old Calvin Klein model told the reporter that she could run a mile in 5: 31.

Yes. That would be five minutes and thirty-one seconds, which is about the same amount of time it takes us to even get motivated enough to get of the bed and commit to a jog around the park.

But Ali is pro at this (she ran cross country throughout high school), so we don't feel too bad about ourselves. In this clip, watch as she demonstrates her runway walk in the grass and discusses her new top model status.

Perez's Hot Topic launch draws 7

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style

As predicted by our own Whit Honea, Perez Hilton's celebrity line looks like it's going to crash and burn in true blog-worthy fashion. According to New York Magazine, a grand total of 7 loyal fans showed up at the LA Hot Topic where Perez was hanging out to celebrate the launch. Frankly, we're a little embarrassed for him. Here's what a supposed Hot Topic employee had to say about the fiasco:

"Mario was BEYOND upset texting and DEMENDING the right water, food,ETC he was a rude royal pain in the ass and BEYOND crass... My manager was trying to get people to come in to meet Perez by handing out $5 gift cards NO ONE WANTED TO MEET HIM! ...he left around 8:45PM without saying goodbye to anyone & looked like he had been crying like the little bitch he is. We sold a grand total of $6.45 of Perez Hilton items between 6PM - 9PM. My manager has already talked about discounting his 'line'!"

Jean Paul Gaultier's brings the man makeup

Filed under: Men, Cosmetics, Skin Care

Is men's fashion really headed towards concealer and guyliner? Jean Paul Gaultier thinks so. This Thursday, JPG is set to launch its own venture into the world of man makeup called Monsieur. Unbeknownst to us, there must be a fairly decent-sized untapped market out there for this stuff. Initially, the lineup will consist of a toner, bronzer, concealer, eyeliner and shaving products -- as far as lipstick and mascara goes, it looks like they'll wait to see if phase 1 takes off.

Shoes are ruining our feet

You knew it had to be a man who said that we don't need shoes.

This week in a story on NPR, Adam Sternbergh of New York magazine calls footwear "a conspiracy of idiocy." He compares wearing shoes to putting a cast on your arm and never taking it off.

He thinks we should stop wearing shoes.

Excuse us while we sit with heads between our legs, and breathe into a paper bag until we regain our composure.

So that's what Lindsay Lohan looks like naked

Let's be real, if you want to see the more private areas of Lindsay Lohan, they're not that hard to find. Ever since she turned from sweet-faced child star to out-of-control, drugged-up twentysomething, her lady bits have routinely popped out and been plastered all over the Internet.

But this is different. New York Magazine is running an artsy-fartsy shoot of LiLo today, in which the young starlet bares all for the camera. You might notice, however, that the actress doesn't look quite like herself.

And that's on purpose. The series is supposed to replicate a 1962 New York Magazine shoot that photographer Bert Stern did with Marilyn Monroe. As it turned out, those photos from the Hotel Bel-Air were the last (and arguably the most famous) photos ever taken of the original Blonde Bombshell. These more recent images (also shot by Stern), feature Lindsay in similarly provocotive poses -- and, while she's no Marilyn, she looks pretty damn good.

So how did the 21-year-old decide to strip down for the camera? She tells the magazine: "I didn't have to put that much thought into it."

Look Book gets a book

Filed under: Style in the News, Books

Stylewatchers are going to have plenty of new reading material soon. Not only are the Go Fug Yourself girls working on a book but now New York Magazine's popular Look Book segment is going to get its own book. The Look Book Book will feature some of the stylish New Yorkers who have appeared in the magazine as well as new stylish city dwellers. The book will also include backstory on some of interviewees and what happened to them after they appeared in the magazine. This week's Look Book features jewelry designer and mom, Bess Abraham. I wonder if Gawker is planning a book on their "Looking at the Look Book" column too.
