Only Hearts sells lingerie for under or over your layers

Back in the 70s, Only Hearts was a store that sold everything -- and only -- items that were heart related. Over the years this love connection turned to romantic apparel, with store owner Helena Stuart creating her own line of lingerie that she often wore herself as outwear.

Fug is the new sexy

Fashion may have "gone ugly," according to the headlines over at Fashion Indie. But, we have to admit we kind of like it. Gone are the days when women dressed solely to impress men. We're now dressing to impress each other and man, that's a tough audience.

Heir to Hermes fortune shows his rowdy side

Filed under: Style in the News

Just because you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, doesn't mean you were born with manners. Case in point: 37-year-old Mathias Guerrand-Hermes, heir to the uber-luxurious Hermes empire. The "socialite" and "polo player" is charged with assaulting an Air France captain during a transatlantic flight from Paris to New York.

DEX New York's line of mineral makeup

Filed under: Cosmetics, Get the Look, Beauty Tips

Annie ScottI recently had the opportunity to get made up by Catalina Ceballos, a makeup artist and teacher at DEX New York, a salon frequented by Tyra Banks and Posh (Victoria Beckham). This is me before, rockin' my pink hair for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Catalina took off all my makeup except my eyeliner, which she liked (it's a dark brown Lancome shadow applied with water). She trimmed my eyebrows, and brushed on a special shade of Tinted Hydrator, SPF 20, which she created for me by blending two shades. DEX New York's Tinted Hydrator has ginkgo biloba and ginseng to increase circulation.

Catalina then applied loose and pressed powder, again using two shades blended with a kabuki brush. She used a mineral illuminator auto-pen on my undereye circles over the powder.

Then came the color. Read on to see the "after" picture and see what she used on me! Also note: Most of the products she used are available on the DEX New York website.

Pink hair for breast cancer research

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Accessories, Style for a Cause, Get the Look, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

That's me! I went to DEX New York, a salon and studio in NYC frequented by Tyra Banks, to get a $10 hot pink hair extension. 100% of the proceeds go to The National Breast Cancer Foundation. You should get one, too! It was totally painless, took about five minutes once I was in the chair, and they gave me a pink cupcake. If you're in NYC, this is a great way to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Read on to see how it looks!

The Life & Times of Coco Rocha

Filed under: Style in the News

Coco Rocha has come a long way since she found herself Irish gigging down the Jean Paul Gaultier runway a couple of seasons ago. In a time in fashion where fresh faced models are just as easily forgotten as what they've been eating, Coco has managed to navigate this picky industry and transform herself into a very hot commodity.

Just ask Anna Wintour. The editor-in-chief has put the Canadian in practically every issue of Vogue since Coco's first appearance back in 2006. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Style.com, Vogue's online home, has just created a web series that will follow Coco as she tries to survive her cross country trek for Fashion Week.

In the first part, watch as Coco plays with a casting director and explains how one can walk away with nice designer pieces after the show. Watch and learn.

People are jacking kids for their candy; No, really

Filed under: Style in the News

You've got to have either a very mighty and insatiable sweet tooth or just a black heart to rob a candy a store where kids will scrap and save every last dime they have in order to purchase something sticky and sweet.

Call this a reaction to the desperate times our economy presents us or just plain pathetic, but some thugs robbed the luxe Dylan's Candy Bar in Manhattan at gun point last week, walking away with $7,000 after cleaning out all of the cash registers.

No arrests have been made, so watch out kids. We suggest you munch on granola bars until the purps are caught. Le sigh.

Little Black Dress pop-up store is chic and charitable

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Stores We Love, Style for a Cause

Traveling pop-up shop Little Black Dress debuted in Los Angeles this week. The sprawling boutique features clothing, jewelry, artwork, and even botanical and floral arrangements--all for a good cause.

Benefiting do-good organizations like Junior League and Dress for Success, Little Black Dress offers clothing from the likes of Kira Plastinina, La Rok and Vivienne Westwood. (Candle designer Dayna Decker even created a Swarovski crystal-encrusted collection exclusively for the temporary store.) After hours, Little Black Dress will hold philanthropic fashion events like "Vino and Vinyasa" and "Movie and a Makeover."

And if the Sunset Boulevard locale is far from home, not to worry. In 2009, Little Black Dress will make appearances in New York and Chicago, too.

Chanel's new high-concept makeup counters

Filed under: Cosmetics, Fragrance, Daily Obsession

Chanel is revamping its makeup and fragrance counter at Saks Fifth Avenue's flagship New York store.

The new, 850 square-foot space--bigger than most New York apartments--will offer fragrance experts to introduce customers to Chanel's 43 perfume concentrates, eight makeup artist stations, and a digital history book about the French fashion house.

Our favorite feature is Chanel's Miroir Lumiere light-box mirror, tucked away inside the "VIP consultation room." The mirror mimics sunlight at different times of day and in different seasons.

After all, if a shade of lipstick works whether it's summer or winter, morning or night, we might be able to justify its $36 price tag.

Derek Lam Spring 2009

Filed under: Runway Trends, Fashion Week

Derek Lam's Spring 2009 collection offered a thoroughly modern take on American sportswear--and was one of Fashion Week's standout shows.

The 30s-via-80s silhouettes included floaty skirts and relaxed yet strong-shouldered suits. )Think Faye Dunaway in "Bonnie and Clyde" meets Jerry Hall.) Jackets and dresses featured sprinkles of sequins and metallics. And while a neutral palette dominated--Lam described the shades as "pumice, stone and terra cotta"--pops of bright citrus shades made their way down the catwalk, too.

Lam has been one of fashion's rising stars since launching his self-titled line in 2003. But in our minds, this collection cemented his status as one of America's freshest young designers.
