Nintendo does street fashion

KOEI announced today that it's coming out with a fashion-savvy game for Nintendo DS called POP CUTIE! The game is apparently one part trend-hunting, and one part retail management. Because it's every gamers dream to finally get to play a game that simulates the day-to-day business of a retail clothing store. Right? The game is not expected to be a hit with men ages 0-100.

POP CUTIE! will offer people who don't have jobs -- probably because they're obsessed with gaming -- a chance to have a virtual job where they run a small fashion boutique. Players will hire models and assistants, design their shop's look, place magazine ads, choose their own muzak, and even run the cash register. Yipee! Why is it that games marketed towards women always seem more like work than entertainment?

Stylish tools to help fulfill your 2008 resolutions

There's a new year around the corner, folks, and that means it's time for new New Year's resolutions! What will you do in 2008? Finally get around to painting that extra room? Finish level three Italian? Find a better plastic surgeon? Well, I can't help you with those, but I certainly can give a few pointers on some of the more common resolutions that people make. If one must create a new and improved self, why not do it in style? So, you want to...

Be more organized: Sometimes the best way to organize is with good, old-fashioned pen and paper. Unfortunately, "paper" doesn't always mean "post-its", which tend to become part of the clutter it originally set out to sort out. One very stylish and sophisticated item that has done wonders for people all over the world is the Moleskine notebook. Moleskines come in a variety of sizes and types, from small to big to sketchbooks to address books. They're black and compact and, best of all, always lie completely flat when you open them up. No annoying curve in the middle! Also, there's a little pocket on the inside back cover for any loose notes. Sometimes having a pretty notebook is just enough of a motivation to get organized. Common Moleskine users are generally the artsy hipster types and are easily identifiable by their constant ravings about how much they love their notebooks.

Geek chic: turn an NES controller into a cellphone

Thank goodness the '90s are back! I was born in 1983, so the whole retro '80s thing was fun, but more or less lost on us younger 20-somethings. But now we've finally moved into a decade I can remember, and my childhood has officially become cool.

I love that grunge is back, but the trend I'm even more excited about is retro-gaming. People are modifying old bits of Nintendo gear and out-dated Nintendo images, and turning them into clothing accessories -- or, in this case, the coolest cell phone you've ever seen. Not only does the phone pay homage to the days you spent whoopin'' Koopa's butt, but it's totally functional.

Unfortunately, you can't buy the NES controller phone, as it's currently one of a kind. However, the guy who made it has mercifully laid out some very detailed, step-by-step instructions on his website. So, if you have a little time, and don't mind ripping apart an old controller, you can make your own!

If you decide to try this and you can actually make one that works, please send photos.

Paris the Pink strikes again

Sigh. Pink Paris has struck again and the results aren't pretty.

The image is the Nintendo DS Lite console as inspired by Miss Hilton, the woman who has launched a plethora of pink and glittering gadgets, perfumes and even a motorcycle. It's no surprise the designs are horribly pink and dangerously sparkly thanks to all those Swarovski crystals. The good news? It's only available at the Multipazz boutique in Central London where it sells for £360 (around $680) which means you won't have to be blinded by someone brandishing this thing on the subway.
