Pants to Poverty

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Green Fashion

Thanks to our friends over at TONIC News, we were just tipped off to the ethically sexy underwear from Pants to Poverty.

The British brand was inspired by Nelson Mandela, and started out almost as a lark, with 12,000 organic undies in someone's garage. They brought the panties to the Glastonbury Festival, then held a flash mob of people in their Pants to Poverty briefs, and moved on to the G8 Rally in Edinburgh.

By the end of the first year, they'd almost sold out the entire supply from the garage, and in the process raised a serious amount of awareness about poverty.

Tip of the Day: Wear Jewelry Alchemy by Melissa McClure

Filed under: Accessories, Style Tip of the Day

The brains behind the organic line dubbed Jewelry Alchemy, Melissa McClure brings the infinite idea of "opposites attract" to life in her line.

Coming from a family lineage full of jewelers and goldsmiths, it was only natural that McClure start her own jewelry collection. Having much to do with her split childhood between energetic New York and laid back Texas, her collection is an excellent contrast of nature vs. urban.

Some of our favorites from her silver and gold collection are the static branch choker necklace, asymmetrical large twig clasp necklace, assorted button bangle bracelets, double helix bracelet, leather wrap honeycomb, and the long simple twig earrings.

All stores that carry the line are located in West Hollywood. However, if you aren't in Cali, all's not lost. You can shop the line at Cake Jewelry.

Cloud9 Design- Handmade Wearable Art

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Men, Kids and Babies, Green Fashion

We are always looking for new independent designers. That's part of the game in this world we call fashion. The other option is to just sit back and take what "Project Runway" gives us- which would undoubtedly be good and pretty entertaining, but in this game you can't get by on hand-outs. You need to be aggressive.

Cloud9 Design Studio was aggressive. They/she approached us, and we checked out the wares. We like what we found.

Cloud9 is currently at Etsy, although a new site appears to be underway. The designs are "handmade wearable works of art for women, men, maternity & baby on organic or USA made fabrics & recycled, vintage apparel."

We digress. Here's what you need to know about 3 Clothing Company, maker of fine organic t-shirts, straight from the source (after the gallery- gotta see the shirts):

Moral Fabric
is a t-shirt company that originated in Texas. Their passion is to make t-shirts that "focus on the psychedelic art movement of the 60's and 70's, ancient Middle Eastern mosaic patterns, perception vs. reality, spiritual ideologies, and the intelligent designs of Mother Nature." You know, cool stuff.
