We knew it was coming, but it's still sad to hear -- Eddie Bauer has filed for bankruptcy after almost 90 years in the business.

Specifically, according to WWD, the rugged, outdoorsy retailer has filed Chapter 11 in Delaware. The company will be acquired by CCMP Capital Advisors for $202 million cash. Eddie Bauer has also sought protection from creditors in Canada under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act in Canada.

Don't worry about where you'll get your khaki shorts and water-resistant jackets for this summer's big hiking trip, though -- WWD reports that EB has a $100 million debtor-in-possession financing commitment and doesn't plan to close its stores during the bankruptcy, so you can continue to camp in comfort and style.

And you can also shop the site, where their bi-annual "Ultimate Sale" is in full swing. Items are up to 50 percent off!

Men's Slippers Out on the Town - Yea or Nay?

Slippers are becoming a men's fashion trend outside the homeTraditionally, wearing a pair of comfy slippers out in public has been perfectly acceptable for 3 types of people: babies, chronic slackers, and college students. According to the Financial Times (the obvious authority on all breaking fashion trends?), slipper makers are noticing that their products are showing up in all sorts of unusual places where the slipper was formerly unacceptable -- from the bar to the office meeting. Is it time for the 'house shoe' to invade the outdoors?

L.L. Bean: Footwear

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Shoes, Jeans, Men, Kids and Babies, Style for a Cause, Green Fashion

L.L. Bean is one of those companies that make a bit of everything. However, don't make the assumption that they are a jack of all trades, master of none, instead consider the full phrase which continues, though ofttimes better than master of one. Thanks, Wikipedia!

L.L. Bean is focused on the outdoors. They make everything from kayaks to baby strollers, tents to sporks. Really. They also have a great line of footwear for the whole family that is as stylish as it is functional. Aesthetics are not sacrificed for performance, or vice versa.

Outdoor parties: Think about your shoes

What could be more romantic and elegant than an evening soiree under a white tent? You have the stars above, a summer breeze blowing softly, and undoubtedly beautiful (and flattering) lighting. Go camping in style with the gadget-friendly tent

Filed under: Haute Home, Events: On the Scene

Granted, "roughing it" and being stylish can seem a little contradictory. However, Eureka N!ergy Tent might just be the fashionable person's alternative to the traditional outdoors experience.

The main difference between this tent and the one in your garage is that comes with three 12-volt plugs. So, when you connect the tent to the Eureka E! Power Pack, you can power up your Blackberry, laptop, and whatever else you need to stay connected to everyone back in civilization. Or, presumably, anything else that runs off of 12-volts, like a hair dryer, toaster, etc.

Of course, some might say that bringing your beauty products or techno gadgets out into the wilderness defeats the purpose, and that may be true. I, however, have never been the camping type, but now that I know about the N!ergy Tent, I am seriously considering getting more in touch with nature.
