The World's Most Fashionable Cities - How Did Yours Rank?

Filed under: Style in the News

Did your city make the most stylish list? Photo: Image Source

Think you live in the most stylish city in the world? If you're a Parisian, you'd be right!

That is, according to the just released Anholt-GfK Roper City Brands Index report that ran on Forbes.com.

The report is the result of surveying 10,000 people from 20 countries and asking them to rank 50 different cities based on their stylishness (factors include multiculturalism, nightlife and general buzziness).

Of the esteemed Top Ten, the "fashion capitals" rounded out the coveted 1-4 spots: Milan, New York, and London -- in that order -- following Paris. Not a huge surprise. But the rest of the list was what we were really interested in.

Rome ranked #5, Los Angeles #6, Tokyo #7, Madrid #8, San Francisco #9, and Barcelona held up the rear.

With West Coast designers pumping fresh new blood into the American fashion scene (not to mention Silicon Valley's contribution of the iPhone to the world!), we're happy to see that La La Land and SanFran make the cut.

But what do you think? Did the respondents get it right? What's your take on the Top Ten Stylish Cities? (Austin, speak up!)

Paris Hilton Hits Dubai

Paris Hilton glams it up, Dubai-style. Photo: Haider Yousuf, Getty Images

For once, Paris Hilton is late to the party.

When Hilton appeared at a splashy press conference in Dubai for her new reality series, decked out in her finest Arabian-inspired garb (and flashy gold nail polish), you had to wonder if she got the memo that the city's high-rolling, luxury obsessed culture isn't what it once was.

Still, Hilton will be looking for some willing soul to pop the champagne with, as takes to the hot streets in search of a pal in "My New Best Friend Forever."

Wait, it's more like unscrew the Evian -- Hilton may have trouble finding someone to booze it up with in the largely conservative city. But don't worry, she's prepared. Hilton recently said Dubai is "very strict" and "the rules are crazy out there."

But maybe Dubai is still a fitting destination for Hilton's noble quest. After all, it is the city that plays host to a six-week Dubai shopping festival.

Wishing both Paris -- and certainly Dubai -- the best of luck.

AnnaLynne McCord's Hair Screams 'Ice Ice Baby!'

In the Heights! AnnaLynne and Vanilla had high hair hopes. Photos: Getty Images

All right stop -- collaborate and listen! AnnaLynne is back with a brand new invention!

Since the Eighties are back in a major way, I suppose it was only a matter of time before the style cesspool known as the early Nineties followed suit.

If you look at it that way, then AnnaLynne McCord is a trendsetter with her recent homage to Vanilla Ice's gravity-defying hair. (And on a random note, check out the similarity of their lips!)

I appreciate anyone willing to take a risk on the red carpet because aside from Paris' recent headband craze things have been a little slow in the hair department.

And while the Hollywood newbie usually gets it right, I'm just not down with this over-poufed style.

What do you think of AnnaLynne's icy 'do? Vote in our poll and leave a comment!

Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni - Their Latest Fashion Face-Off

Filed under: Style in the News

When the First Ladies of fashion both step out in white dresses, you know summer has officially arrived!

After spending time in Paris with daughters Malia and Sasha, Michelle Obama flew to Normandy, France today (June 6) to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day alongside husband President Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.

We all remember when the First Ladies first met and looked like tie-neck twins, well this time they were again on the same wardrobe wavelength.

MObama accessorized her white-on-white jacket (Michael Kors) and sheath (Narciso Rodriguez) combo with metallic, Jimmy Choo open-toe kitten heels and a chunky silver Givenchy belt (worn over her jacket), while Bruni cinched her cap-sleeved Dior sheath with a skinny black belt and wore closed-toe kitten heels. Bruni also topped her look with a simple black coat in an extremely similar cut that she later removed for the ceremony.

Coincidence? We're starting to think not! With this much matching, is it be possible they planned their outfits over a lovely déjeuner?

From the Fragrance Frontlines - Day 1

Senior Fashion Editor Sarah Cristobal is on assignment this week in France to discover what goes into creating the world's top fragrances. Read her daily blogs as she travels to perfumeries in Paris and Grasse, and dutifully observes the ooh la la of French culture.

As European cities go, there really is nowhere in the world like Paris. From the impressive architecture to the warm baguettes, Paris emits culture from the essence of its being. I am lucky enough to be here thanks to a co-worker who (unfortunately) had to pass on the trip, and at the behest of the Axe team, who is acting as the gracious host for an assortment of editors.

Before you raise a suspecting brow as to why StyleList, a site that caters mainly to a female audience, needs to learn the ins and outs of a unabashedly testosterone-driven brand like Axe, consider this: Axe is a Unilever brand, whose products are created in some of the world's top fragrance houses.

Angelina Jolie in Ralph Lauren Black Label - I Want That!

Angelina JolieSo Angelina Jolie is on some kind of color streak this week. First she went with some navy at the SAG's and then she wore this pretty little gray ditty to the Parisian premiere of beau Brad Pitt's new movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We really like this because it sort of looks like she wore her very best sweatpants and robe to the red carpet.

Oh, Kanye. Our dear rapper friend has outdone himself once again. Just when we thought his Louis Vuitton moment was over, he goes and creates this nice minute and a half video. Those who have consumed the artist's last four albums should be well aware of the fact that Mr. West has arbitrarily named himself the "Louis Vuitton Don."
