Miss DiorSo many ladies have differing opinions on the right way to spray perfume. Do you spritz it into the air and then walk through it? Or do you spray it directly onto your body?

Naomi Watts gets 'Angelic' for Thierry Mugler

Filed under: Style in the News, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

Clearly it's not enough for Naomi Watts to be just an Oscar-nominated actress with a beautiful baby and a super-famous best friend. No, the King Kong and Funny Games star has designs on the modeling industry, too -- she has just been signed up as the first celebrity face of Thierry Mugler's Iconic Angel perfume.

Any eagle-eyed dress-watchers at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala Benefit in New York last week will have spotted the suitably angelic appearance of Watts' dress... of course, it was a Mugler design. Crafty.

Indie Designer Interviews: Vmagique Perfume Oils

VmagiqueI'm a big fan of all of the amazing independent designers out there. In an effort to get inside the mind of the indie designer and find out just what makes all of these creative types tick, I present to you an ongoing segment I call Indie Designer Interviews.

Fragrance designer Diane Fisher is a woman obsessed. Obsessed with one singular scent: vanilla. Only she's come up with a variety of ways to make boring old vanilla seem...well, not so vanilla. Diane recently launched a new line of perfumes called Vmagique, all based around this common scent. I interviewed her to find out more about this new project.

Simon Cowell has a perfume?

Filed under: Style in the News, Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

simon cowellThe question isn't whether or not Simon Cowell, the bitter, opinionated Brit judge of TV's American Idol will have a perfume. The question is: Would anyone actually go out and buy the stuff? And wear it?!

According to sources, "Simon has been approached by an American cosmetics giant to put his name to a whole range of products as well as a perfume. He's been offered a vast sum of money to do the deal." I wonder who this so-called "American cosmetic giant" is? Max Factor? I am thinking that a drugstore brand of perfume might suit Mr. Cowell just fine.

I love "The Fragrance" from Philosophy

philosophy - the fragranceI am not really a perfume girl, which is strange because I am very "sniffy," i.e. I love sniffing great things. However, perfumes and colognes have always been a little too flowery, musky, woodsy or simply just too overpowering for me. About the best I can do is spritzing myself with a light body spray that smells like cookies.

However, I received a sample of The Fragrance by Philosophy from that place that hands out cosmetics samples like they're going out of business, and I am hooked. The Fragrance is light, fresh, and feels citrus-y, though it doesn't smell like you've bathed in Lemon Pledge.

My sample is running out, since I've been using it all week, so I'm off to buy a bottle!
