Giorgio Armani Gets Pinocchioed by PETA - Oscar Woes

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Red Carpet Trends, Green Fashion

PETA's ad featuring a photoshopped Giorgio ArmaniFollowing up on the escalating conflict between Giorgio Armani and the anti-fur crusaders at PETA, it looks like we could see some fireworks this month around Oscar time. As you may recall, after years of prodding Armani, it appeared that he was finally going to capitulate. Instead, he released a fall lineup filled with furry fashions. We don't know why he did it -- maybe just to tick PETA off. Now that PETA's going on an Oscar offensive, Armani may be wondering why he got into this slug fest.

Aretha Franklin's Star on Walk of Fame Vandalized by Fur Haters

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Aretha Franklin singing at the opening bell of the NY Stock ExchangeOk, maybe we were a little too hard on Aretha Franklin for what we perceive to be a millinery mishap at the inauguration. The bow wasn't really that huge. This week, we are totally incensed on Aretha's behalf, because some fur-punk decided to deface her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That's just flat out going too far. Insulting her choice in headgear is one thing, but desecrating the greatness of a soul legend by scrawling "Fur Hag" on her star ... that's just wrong.

Karl Lagerfeld Defends Fur - 'Beasts' Would Kill Us if We Didn't Kill Them

Filed under: Style in the News, Green Fashion

Karl LagerfeldYou know, with so many fabulous faux fur options, it's hard to understand why some designers refuse to offer cruelty-free designs. Or, at least, it was, but now we understand perfectly. Karl Lagerfeld explained it to us -- if hunters don't kill those "beasts," they would kill us. Obviously -- don't you see the murderous tendencies in those baby seal eyes?

Khloe Kardashian naked for PETA - Stylefoul!

Celebs Get Naked for PETA

PETA is all about protecting animals in the wild -- but that shouldn't mean they have to make their celebrity campaigners look like they belong in the wild!

Khloe Kardashian's hair is out of control in this picture. It looks like a lion's mane. While crazy hair can be sexy in some instances, we think this is a little much. Her hair is bigger than her booty -- and when you're talking about a Kardashian rear-end that's saying a lot!

Plus, as with all PETA ads, the airbrushing team has gone overboard. Khloe and her sisters are all very pretty gals, but they do, in fact, have pores.

Lindsay Lohan Gets De-Floured in Paris

Lindsay Lohan wearing furLindsay Lohan is no stranger to white powder, but this weekend she had a rather unpleasant white powder encounter. While entering the VIP Room Theater in Paris, Lindsay was hit with a flour bomb thrown by an animal rights activist protesting LiLo's fur stole.

Giorgio Armani is really in the doghouse with PETA now

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

As a high-profile clothing designer, you know that PETA's going to come at you with all they've got if you like to showcase fur in your collections, whether or not you've given any indication that you support animal rights. But, if you really want to make PETA angry, do what Giorgio Armani did. After reporting that PETA had convinced him to drop fur from his collections in an interview with Time last year -- he apparently had a little change of heart.

Instead of ditching fur in his designs, his fall lineup is covered up with the stuff. Chock full of fur coats, fur-hemmed skirts, and even fur coats for children (an unforgivable sin in the eyes of fur-haters) -- it's almost like Giorgio's latest designs were meant to publicly snub PETA . Ouch!

Now, according to the NYP, hardcore PETA groupies like Pamela Anderson are planning a serious counterattack against the perceived betrayal. Word has it that PETA devotees will put celebs that attend Armani shows "in the hot seat" as part of an attempt shun the superstar designer and his fur-loving fashions.

Changing of the guards: British troops may get fur-free hats

Filed under: Style in the News

In a move that's sure to make anti-fur activists giddy, Britain's Ministry of Defence is currently searching for synthetic material to outfit those stonefaced iconic guards at Buckingham Palace. Today, the MoD is meeting with Peta representatives to find a reasonable substitute for those funky black bearskin hats. Yes, they're really made of Canadian black bear fur, and what's more -- it takes an entire bear to make just one hat. So, the MoD's switch to synthetic isn't purely symbolic.

Government officials have pondered the idea of finding a substitute before, but apparently they haven't like any of their options. Now Peta's bringing out the big guns. They've got anti-fur designers Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney working on the case.

Since these guards are one of the foremost icons of British military tradition, the standards are set understandably high. In other words, cheap rugs aren't going to cut it. If you're an aspiring headgear designer, the Telegraph is accepting submissions for an alternative helmet design.

Will Leona Lewis start her own fashion line?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Is pop star Leona Lewis, aka PETA's most sexy vegetarian, about to get her own Topshop line? British rag The Sun reports that Leona and Fashion Svengali Sir Phillip Green have a dinner scheduled, as soon as he gets back from his trip to Ibiza with Kate Moss.

Since she's young and beautiful, and he's old and rich, this can mean only one thing. They're collaborating on a new clothing line. (What did you think we meant?)

The notorious Kate is Sir Phillip's current celebrity designer cash cow, but she can't stay young forever. Leona's staggering success in the U.K. and the U.S., plus her broad appeal make her a very marketable choice.

Let's see: popular and pretty celebrity, trendy clothes, inexpensive price points...we're going out on a limb and predict this will make buckets of money for Sir Phillip, and one hopes for Leona. Oh, yes, and as The Sun points out, Simon Cowell, too.

PETA: send the Olsens some birthday hair

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

It's been a while since PETA came up with an idea hilarious enough to win us over, but this one has truly awesome/disgusting/ridiculous potential. It's centered around the fact that it's the Olsen twins' birthday this Friday -- the 13th -- and PETA wants the twins to receive some freaky gifts in the mail. Their idea: to have all fur-haters send them a birthday package containing some hair clippings and a note that says 'please, use my hair instead of the animals.'

Nicknamed the Trollsen Twins by PETA's Olsen-hating website -- Hairy Kate and Trashley -- the animal rights group apparently hates them because they use fur in the celebrity clothing line. We're OK with fur, but we think we might send some beard trimmings anyway -- just for a laugh. The sad thing about this gag is knowing that some poor intern will end up being the one to open all the disgusting hair packages.

PETA sends Beyonce a wedding gift

Filed under: Haute Home, Celebrities with Style

Despite all the 'are they really married?' rumors that are flying around the internet, we feel it's safe to say that Beyonce and Jay-Z have actually tied the knot. Why do we suddenly feel so confident? Because PETA sent Beyonce a wedding gift -- and when the uber-informed PETA seems sure, we figure it's a safe bet. So, what did they send the fur-loving superstar who, consequently, was a victim of one of their most sneaky celeb-attacks yet? A faux-fur throw of course.

In 2006, PETA won a charity auction on Ebay to eat lunch with the pop diva and jumped on the opportunity to show Beyonce one of their famously graphic DVDs about animal slaughter. Now, with this wedding gift, we have to wonder if PETA has gone soft. It's hard to tell whether the gift was meant to be tongue-in-cheek or not, but we interpret this as a sincere gesture of good will from the animal rights org. Maybe they're just afraid to be on Jay-Z's bad side? We would be.

Bringing home the Bacon Bra

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

Peanut butter and chocolate? Sure, those are two great tastes that go great together, but let's face it, they're no longer shocking the world with their combined novelty. The time as come for Reese's to step aside, there's a new cup in town, and it ain't kosher.
