I want that! 3.1 Philip Lim backless mini dress

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Daily Obsession, Get the Look

At first glance Ashlee Simpson looked like she was simply wearing another LBD (her closet must have hundreds of them) at the Conde Naste Traveler Hot List Party – yawn! Thank God we took a second look because the the close-ups reveal a stunning, detailed look that must've been spectacular in person.

The Philip Lim 3.1 dress is certainly an LBD but with unexpected details like a ruffled bottom, hidden pockets and triangle back cut-out. Instead of rocking the usual black or metallic shoes, Ashlee opted for a light beige peep toe to warm the outfit. Even her hair had a subtle but cool detail. Bet you didn't notice the little braid behind her bangs did you? And of course, her her big ol' diamond sparkler and long Chanel pearl necklace made us swoon.

By adding small but appropriate details each, Ashlee found the perfect accomplices for this look that could've been another ultra boring black dress but is far from.

Fug Alert: The Reincarnation of Birkenstocks

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Shoes, Men

philip lim birkenstocksAs Heidi Klum would say "one minute you are in and the next you are out." What she didn't mention was that you will be in again in no time. That's because in fashion it's a "what goes around comes around" world.

In my eyes Birkenstocks are out and should stay the heck out but some people (cough, cough hippies) won't let them die. Apparently the hippies have some big time connections in the fashion world because Philip Lim has designed a line of shoes for men that look strikingly similar to Birks.

Needless to say, I hate them.

These new age monstrosities will set you back a cool $170.00, twenty bucks more if you want them in animal print. Yes they come in animal print, as well as red or teal leather. I can't imagine who would want these but if you do eluxury.com would be the destination.

NYC Fashion Week Preview: The newcomers

Filed under: Style in the News, Fashion Week

Fashion week is a little more than a week away and the excitement is building, especially for the seven designers who will be showing off their collections inside the Tents for the first time during New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park.

3.1 Phillip Lim- This talented Orange County, CA native will be sending his gorgeous line of American sportswear down the catwalk on Wednesday, February 6th at 5:00 pm. Look for classic pieces with a twist, draped dresses, and a fresh attention to detail. NYMag.com calls his look "Laid-back refinement with moments of romance", couldn't have said it better myself.

Hervé Léger by Max Azria- Sunday, February 3 at 11:00am a new line from Maz Azria will saunter down the runway. This will be the second time since the mid-90's that the collection will be presented on the runway and the first time in New York City. Herve's dresses are known for flying off the racks so I am sure this runway show will only make them fly faster.

Iódice- The knitwear company that was founded in the 1980's but only became an official fashion house in 1995. The design house's carefree knits are wearable, fashionable, and will be a hit amongst the younger crowd during NY Fashion Week on Monday, February 4th at 9:00pm.

Araks- Lingerie designer turned ready-to-wear designer Araks will be showing her collection on February 2 at 2:00 pm. With past work experience including work at J. Crew and Marc Jacobs, not to mention star followers like Sarah Jessica Parker -- this collection is destined to be a hit at the Tents.

Mara Hoffman-
Mara will be showing with Araks on February 2nd. Her collections are known for having exotic designs and extremely creative patterns. You would have to be a creative type to have names like these clamoring for your designs: Patricia Field, Naomi Campbell, Kate Hudson, Jessica Simpson, and Halle Berry.

Rubin Singer- On day one of NYC Fashion Week Rubin Singer will send his ladies down the runway to show off his seductive and beautifully designed creations. The designer was scouted by Bill Blass and once worked for Oscar de la Renta, so you know this guy is good.

Malan Breton- Named one of the 12 designers to watch by WWD (Women's Wear Daily) Malan Breton will show his collection on Wednesday, February 6th at 9:00am. Look out for interesting silhouettes and stunning details that make his pieces real standouts.
