Land a kiss on Valentine's Day with Philosophy

Filed under: Holiday Style, Cosmetics, Steals and Deals

philosophy lip glossAll right boys, I am going to give you a gift idea that is sure to get you lucky on Valentine's Day.

You know the story; you meet a great girl towards that later half of January and things are going pretty well until you realize that Valentine's Day is coming. What do you do? Be a dog and dump the girl to avoid buying her a gift or buy her something extravagant and come off looking strange and desperate? Neither, the key to situations like these is to be cheap without looking cheap. Back in middle school a mix tape would do but today, not so much.

Gift your girl with this tube of Philosophy lip gloss that says "Kiss Me" across the top of the tube. Of course you can't just hand her a tube of lip gloss and stand there puckering like a fool. This simple gift must be given over a lovely dinner with a bouquet of her favorite flowers (no carnations please).

Trust me this simple gesture will have your girl weak in the knees and maybe, just maybe, you will get more than a kiss.

Help me buy a new fragrance!

amazing grace perfume
My Styledash friends, I need your help.

I have worn out my favorite perfume. No, it's actually not the one pictured above, Philosophy's Amazing Grace. It's Ralph Lauren's Ralph - the one that comes in a short clear bottle with dark aqua blue lettering and design. I have been wearing it for years. Years. In fact, I've been wearing it so long, I doubt I can even smell it on myself anymore. You know what that means? I probably over-spray myself. (Incidentally, I received the Amazing Grace as a gift, tried it, and had to return it. I thought it was too sweet-smelling.)

So it's time for something fresh and new, both the maker and the scent. I am not fond of overly sweet smells unless I am wearing something that is specifically made to smell like a Vanilla Cupcake. I also don't like anything too musky or spicy. If I had to put it into poetry, I like the smell of fresh sunshine in the springtime.

I have gone into Sephora at least twice a week trying to find something I like. The problem is that after spritzing myself with about three different perfumes, they all start to blend together. Besides, I can never tell what they smell like on me because they all smell like alcohol right when you spray them.

What do you wear? Why do you like it? I need some suggestions.

Exfoliate your lips for your 2007 kiss

Filed under: Cosmetics, Skin Care, Steals and Deals

When the clock strikes midnight tonight, will your lips be ready for your New Year's kiss? If you don't know, ask yourself this question: when was the last time I exfoliated my pout? And if the answer is "not any time recently," you might want to think about buffing off those dead skins cells while you have the chance.

If you have a Sephora in your area, I would highly recommend Philosophy's Kiss Me exfoliating lip scrub. Rich in emollients and moisturizers, this gentle treatment will bid adieu to dead skin, leaving you with a super-soft pout.

If a Sephora trip isn't in store for you today, I have two Drugstore Beauty Queen lip exfoliating suggestions. One option is to use a damp washcloth to gently roll off the flaky surfaces of your lips. Another to use an old damp toothbrush to brushing away the dead cells. In either case, be sure to follow up with a good coat of gloss or chapstick.

Happy kisses!

Do you fragrance switch your soap for winter?

I tend to switch out my fragrances by season. Summer is for citrusy and fruity scents, while during the winter I prefer heavier scents with a sandalwood or amber note. But I didn't realize until recently that I usually end up switching soaps too. In the summer time, I tend to go for lemon, rose or lavender. Once the weather starts getting chillier my choices shift toward the minty or spicy options. Some of my favorites for the chillier months include:

1. Sappo Hill Oatmeal Soap: It's cheap, it's good for your skin and it smells like oatmeal cookies.
2. My Beautiful Soap Pumpkin Spice: They sell this at my local market, it has a great pumpkin pie scent.
3. South of France's Rosemary Mint: The mint smell and slight cooling effect makes it a bracing choice on a sleepy winter morning.
4. Philosphy's Hot Toddies Collection: apple cider, eggnog and cocoa soaps, yum.
5. Singing Olive: I haven't tried these yet but the collection of wreaths and snowmen could put a grinch in a festive mood and come in scents like peppermint and "Christmas splendor."

I love "The Fragrance" from Philosophy

philosophy - the fragranceI am not really a perfume girl, which is strange because I am very "sniffy," i.e. I love sniffing great things. However, perfumes and colognes have always been a little too flowery, musky, woodsy or simply just too overpowering for me. About the best I can do is spritzing myself with a light body spray that smells like cookies.

However, I received a sample of The Fragrance by Philosophy from that place that hands out cosmetics samples like they're going out of business, and I am hooked. The Fragrance is light, fresh, and feels citrus-y, though it doesn't smell like you've bathed in Lemon Pledge.

My sample is running out, since I've been using it all week, so I'm off to buy a bottle!
