Model for a Day - Spiegel Reality Dressing, The Shoot!

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Clothing

This is the fourth and final part of my Model for a Day series in which I share with you my experience as a model for the Spiegel Reality Dressing photoshoot in New York City. You want behind the scenes? You've got it!

Once I was dressed, I was totally ready to go. I went on photographer Erez Sabag's set, and he immediately put me at ease. He offered to get people off the set, but I have no problems with being camera shy, so we got right down to business. Music was playing, which kept me a little looser, and even though I didn't really have a clue what I was doing, I felt like a pro. I just moved like I see the celebs move on the red carpet and I was (apparently) good to go!

Triumph Inspiration Award - dreamy lingerie

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Swimwear and Lingerie

Sure, the Victoria Secret fashion show has all of those supermodels, but it's sort of sanitized sexiness. Plus you know that everything in the show will eventually turn up a mall near you, piled on a table next to a pyramid of "Pink-scented" lotion.

If you want creativity and adventure in your underwear, you have to check out the new Triumph Inspiration Awards. An international design competition for students, this year the theme was Female Fascination. Designers from 31 countries participated and the judges included supermodel Helena Christensen, Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf, and noted sexy photographer Ellen von Unwerth.

Summer Wedding Season: Your real job as maid of honor

Let's get one thing straight first: being the "maid or matron of honor" is not so much an honor as an unpaid job. To be even more blunt, it's a very expensive favor you are doing for someone who will almost certainly fail to appreciate your efforts. But here's the twist: she will most certainly judge you and find you failing at some point in the process.

Now that we have the niceties out of the way, here's the real deal.

Cannes in review: My favorite shots

Filed under: Events: On the Scene

Michael Buckner is a fashion and celebrity photographer who travels around the world taking pictures on the red carpet. He gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest entertainment industry events.

It's 5:30 in the morning on Tuesday in Los Angeles and as I'm writing this. I'm jet lagged as hell. I can't stay awake past 8:30pm and I keep waking up at dawn (which isn't the normal schedule of my lifestyle). All in all Cannes was a great trip. I really boosted up the portfolio. The gallery is a wrap up of my favorite images from the festival.
Well, those where my last few days of Cannes. I suggest everyone go at least once.

Sometimes, real people DO dress like that

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Dresses

Do you ever wonder (while flipping through yet another fashion magazine and pausing to ponder exactly how the hell someone thought to pair that giraffe-patterned sweater with the mango-colored footless tights and managed to make it look fashionable), if anyone in the real world actually puts together ensembles like that? You know, without a team of stylists working for them?

While I can certainly put together an outfit for an occasion, I'm sorry to say I don't dress quite to the nines every time I hit Whole Foods. And even then, I look around, and I'm not the worst dressed person in the building. This is depressing.

The Sartorialist has renewed my confidence in the world's ability to dress for everyday activities. The blog consists of pictures of fabulous (but for the most part, regular) people on the street (and occasionally at a fashion show, but not the models), and was started by a man who had been in the fashion industry for years. It has garnered numerous awards and is a Time Magazine Top 100 Design Influencer -- I know for certain it has influenced me. How will it change your closet?
