Playboy Fragrances - Think They'll Smell Like Sex?

Filed under: Fragrance, Celebrities with Style

The Girls Next Door promoting the Playboy fragrances
The Playboy empire is spreading -- aside from the nudie magazines and clothing, it's reaching out into fragrances, too. The ladies from The Girls Next Door attended a party in the penthouse of Manhattan's Hotel on Rivington to celebrate the launch last week, and shared some details about their favorite scents.

Playboy economics - Do men prefer burly playmates during hard times?

Filed under: Style in the News

Do men's perception of what makes a woman more attractive change with the size of their 401K? According to a couple of Econometricians (we promise that we didn't make that word up) -- they do. So, what convincing mountain of data do they base their theory that men like larger and more robust women during times of hardship? The basic indicator of all thing that men find sexually attractive: Playboy Playmates from 1960 through 2000.

Kendra Wilkinson ain't classy enough for the Olive Garden

Playboy hottie and lady friend to Hugh Hefner, Kendra Wilkinson has plenty of admirers. With her So-Cal looks and willingness to express herself toplessly, she is a truly American brand.

You could say that Olive Garden, another "only in America" classic, is a natural match for Kendra, both of them pre-fab, bland and over-processed. In other words, easy to like and available in every mall in America.

But this is a story of unrequited love.

Birkhead buys lingerie for tiny daughter Dannielynn

We admit, when we read the AP headline, our first thought was that Larry Birkhead had descended to a new low: buying lingerie for his tiny 1 year old daughter, Dannielynn to wear.

Like the kid isn't going to have enough problems without Daddy sexing her up before puberty. Before toddlerhood. Before potty-training!

Fortunately (we're speaking relatively here -- you have to look at the big picture) Larry purchased the pink bustier and white negligee that Anna Nicole wore in a Playboy shoot as memorabilia, to help Dannielynn remember her late mother.

Finally, a good Easter shirt

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men

I don't know how many times I've spent Easter morning dressed like some banker in a short-sleeved business shirt and a clip-on tie, looking for eggs and hoping that the Peeps didn't have E.coli (they don't). Of course that was when I was a kid (early 20's).

Nowadays I'm more likely to be sitting on the couch in my boxers and asking the kids to hunt Daddy another beer that the bunny hid in the icebox. Oh, family traditions.

No more. Thanks to the good folks at Snorg Tees I will once again be dressed on Easter Sunday, but this time with style.

The My Butt Hurts (16.95) (ladies) t-shirt brings forth a very delicate matter often overshadowed during the Easter season, "the perils of life as a chocolate bunny" (from website). What strikes me as, well, striking, is that the perils of the candy bunny seem disturbingly similar to those suffered by the Playboy Bunny, except for the ears part. Freaky, isn't it?

If Easter isn't your thing, or if you're just greedy, here are some other fine shirts from Snorg Tees:

Lindsay Lohan in Playboy?

Here's how I understand the chronology of Lindsay Lohan's career to date:
  1. Cute kids wows families in wholesome movies -- a child star is born!
  2. Teen starlet wins big as high school heart throb
  3. Drinking! Drugs! Flashing the paparazzi! No one will touch formerly adorable actress with a 10-ft pole
  4. Post-rehab, career in shambles -- it's time to pose nude (but only in an artsy-fartsy way)
  5. Hey, that naked thing worked out pretty well, let's do it again -- just tackier!
And hence, we get from The Parent Trap to Playboy in five simple steps. The going rumor is that, in the wake of the ridiculously successful nude photo shoot Lindsay did for New York magazine, Hugh Hefner has offered the actress (former actress?) a fat wad of cash to impersonate Marilyn again. This time she'd be recreating the famous nude swimming scene from Something's Got to Give.

Oh, LiLo. NY mag was one thing -- but Playboy? This looks less like the daring move to a woman on the comeback trail, and more like a desperate plea for attention from a B-lister on the outs. Sigh.

Stylefoul: The AVN Awards red carpet

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes

AVN AwardsI suppose the average porn star is not expected to know very much about fashion, seeing as how work in the porn industry rarely involves clothing. Also, with such strangely, um, augmented bodies, it's probably rather difficult to find clothing that fits off-the-rack. Yes, the pun was fully intended.

The bizarre sight of fully -- and I use "fully" very lightly -- dressed porn stars is a bit much to handle, but the public got to see it when the big names of the industry strut their plastic stuff on the Adult Video News Awards red carpet. What ensued was a display of some of the worst clothing choices I have seen in a long, long time. Those that even bothered to try and wear something without strategically-cut holes wore tacky outfits straight from a trashy 1996 prom. Take a quick look, if you dare, but the pictures are still pretty Not Safe For Work.

Sorry, but without a Golden Globes red carpet to monitor, this is all I've got. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go boil my eyes.

Helena Christensen for Playboy?

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Swimwear and Lingerie, Celebrities with Style

Helena ChristensenYes, the rumors are true, but don't think for a minute that you are going to see a completely nude spread eagle Helena. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but the Playboy spread is going to be tasteful and artistic.

The 38-year-old former supermodel Helena Christensen will be posing for a French Playboy shoot with famed photographer Paolo Reversi. Helena says (with a smile) that the shoot will be "done in 70's-style, so it's really all about the innocence and playfulness of it!"

Interesting, I believe even in the 70's Playboy was never really innocent. I suppose we will have to see it to believe it.

Playboy won't take Brit, but Maxim will

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

You know what they say, if you can't do Playboy, do Maxim.

Earlier this week, we reported Playboy editor Hugh Hefner turned down Britney Spears' request for a 7-figure payout to pose in his magazine.

Now Spears is now discussing the possibility of posing for the men's magazine Maxim. As a "close friend" put it to OK! Magazine, "She wants to be on the cover as quickly as they can shoot her. The last thing she did that really reminded America of her allure was her sexy Rolling Stone cover from October 2003, so the idea of another high-profile cover is completely logical."

Yeah, I get that ... because the completely logical thing to do when you're in the middle of a custody battle and a management crisis is to put a nearly naked picture of yourself on the cover of a mid-range men's magazine!

The irony is that a men's magazine cover isn't going to remind anybody of Britney's sexy appeal; it's just going to remind us that she's kind of pathetic, not desirable.

Paris Hilton is so reformed

Filed under: Swimwear and Lingerie, Celebrities with Style

Reformed! After Paris Hilton got out of jail, she was a new person. She revealed to Larry King that she hadn't done drugs (ever!), told fans she'd be reading the Bible, and has recently embarked on two entrepreneurial efforts -- designing both a line of shoes and jeans for the fashion-forward woman.

I'm sure it was some strange combination of all of the above that brought the star to a recent party at the Playboy mansion, dressed in little more than her undies (and not an entirely flattering pair, if I do say so myself).

Finally! I was afraid all this goody-two-shoes stuff was going to last forever, and I'd have no one to make fun of.

A new way to braid

I haven't seen a French braid look this good since, well ... ever.

Kendra, from the E! channel's hit show The Girls Next Door, rocked a braid like a playmate should at the 2007 ESPY awards. Lets face it, French braids and little pigtail braids are just plan dorky. My last experience with French braids was back in high school ... riding the big yellow school bus with the rest of my cheer leading squad watching in disgust as they braided each other's hair then adorned them with school spirit filled colors. Made my want to shove my spirit fingers down my throat (I always opted for the simpler do's like a ponytail).

Now I am no hair stylist, but I sure can take a guess at how to create this look at home. First section off a medium sized chunk of hair right above your ear (pick your "good side") and French braid. Take the top section of your hair, tease, and add product to make a "faux hawk" -- try Big Sexy Hair products. Finally, sweep your hair into a loose side pony tail. And viola, you are now ready for your close up (being smokin' hot helps a lot too).

Playboy makes "White Trash Charms"

White Trash Charms, the delightfully-named new collection for Playboy Jewelry, was recently released to the public -- complete with a launch hosted by the one and only Kelly Osbourne, and guests like Hugh Hefner, The Girls Next Door, and the Hilton sisters.

As you might suspect, this is some of the tackiest jewelry on the face of the planet -- most notably the Playboy Bunny pictured at right, that looks more like the mudflap of an 18-wheeler than something to wear around your neck.

That said, the overt tackiness is probably part of the charm. In fact, if worn by someone whose look would make the piece appear sufficiently ironic, I could see how the company's logo might make for a clever necklace. Although, that's still a stretch. Really, the only good reason for wearing jewelry like this is if you're trying to look tasteless.

But, if you're actually interested in cultivating a look based on white trash chic, head over to RonHerman.com, where you can find all the pieces in this collection.

Hugh Hefner shares his fashion tips

Is Playboy founder Hugh Hefner a style icon? His pajama wardrobes are certainly distinctive. Hef, who is still going strong at 81, tells the Daily Mail about his style routine. He reveals that he has 200 pairs of silk pajamas and his favorite outfit consists of pajamas and a custom-made smoking jacket. He wears black for business because black is serious and he also has 12 pairs of black velvet loafers, which are custom-made by Di Fabrizio in Los Angeles. For business he also own 35 custom Armani suits with custom formal shirts with cuffs. He also likes hats, especially to cover his thinning hair. He also admits to having teeth implants and a little neck tuck. For a man of his age he is pretty stylish and part of that is because he defined his signature look years ago and stays comfortably within those parameters, maintaining a balance between geriatric comfort and old-school glam.
