What to wear on Election Day

Today is the big day, fellow Americans. And there are two burning questions on everybody's minds -- for whom will you be casting your vote -- and what will you be wearing while doing so?

Size Matters: Whose body is better?

We are dying to know: Who do you think is hotter on the unmissable show Mad Men (watch it just for the clothes alone!). The amazing Joan Holloway (played by Christina Hendricks), with her full-figured fabulousness (one of the male characters lustily declared: "She is just so much woman!"). Or the traditionally skinny (and arguably drop-dead gorgeous) Betsy Draper (portrayed by January Jones)?

Let us know what you think!

Stylelist Poll: Floppy hats hot or cold?

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie, Polls and Quizzes

At StyleDash, the summer months present us with a quandary of sorts: how to enjoy the sun without getting baked. Some of us (*ahem* me) will burn at the mere mention of the sun, but the rest of us worry about balancing getting some color without needlessly exposing our skin to harmful UV rays.

Fortunately, fashion has offered us a helping hand via the sunhat. A big, floppy sunhat, while not always fashionable, can do a lot to block the worst of the sun, while still letting us soak up some vitamin D and enjoy the outdoors. Even better, in typical fashionista, well, fashion, big overly dramatic sunhats are becoming quite popular this season.

So our friends at Stylelist have this question for their newest weekly poll: Are you hot or cold on uber-dramatic sunhats?

We think that the right style, worn the right way, can be positively stunning -- but we'd love to know what you think. Vote in the Stylelist poll and then sound-off in the comments!

Stylelist poll: Is the Pixie perky or played out?

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Polls and Quizzes

Now that June is upon us, one of the best ways to fight the heat is with a shorter 'do. On the right type of face, we LOVE the Pixie cut. It is easy to maintain and looks sleek and sophisticated and can be a godsend in those summer months for people with extremely dark hair.

But if a pixie is too short, or if you don't have the type of face that supports short hair -- high cheekbones are a must -- the Pixie can be downright disastrous. Still, as more and more celebs start rocking the short hair (think Rhianna), to sheer or not to sheer becomes a big summer hair question.

So our friends at Stylelist want to know, would you get a pixie cut? Sound off by answering this week's poll and let us know in the comments what you think.

Chanel's new shoes are cocked and loaded

Filed under: Runway Trends, Accessories, Shoes, Polls and Quizzes

Talk about dressing to kill! At Resort 2009, Chanel brought out the big guns, err, literally. In addition to the fashions, the models also brandished some pistol stilettos.

But these shoes weren't just for the show, Lagerfeld and Co. will actually be selling these .22 caliber heels! We know Bonnie & Clyde were fashion icons, but gun shoes? Really?

So StyleList wants to know, would you buy these shoes? Take their poll this week and let them know if these are something you would like to ar yourself with, or if the whole concept turns you off.

Veronica Lake's perennial coif

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style, Polls and Quizzes

We were awed by John Galliano's collection for Christian Dior at Resort 2009. To us, the models with their sixties-influenced clothing and vibrant color palette look like Barbie dolls come to life. Fabulous!

Of course, the clothes weren't the only fabulous part of the show, we were equally awed by the Veronica Lake-esque hairstyles sported on the runway. For us, when it comes to "ultimate" hair icons, Veronica Lake takes the cake. Like, it's not even a discussion.

But those Stylelist people are at it again with the hair poll, and they want to know your opinion on Veronica Lake inspired dos. So what do you think, forever fashionable or tedious and tired? Go cast your vote!

The tiara: Yay or nay

Filed under: Accessories, Polls and Quizzes

The tiara, the accessory long associated with royalty, weddings and beauty pageants, is popping up everywhere. With celebrities like Paris Hilton, Avril Lavigne and Fergie (right) donning diamond (or diamond-looking) head pieces and designers like Caroline Charles showcasing the tiara in her Spring 20008 show, we have to ask: is the tiara the new hotness?

Today's StyleList poll poses an even more pointed question: would you wear a tiara?

While we can't pull the tiara off (well, maybe if it was for our wedding), we applaud those that can and have fun laughing at those who cannot.

What do you think? Head over to Styelist and cast your vote!

Blonds: Is it time you changed your look?

Used to be, that if you wanted to look really hot -- at least in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition kinda way -- you needed blond hair. It makes sense. After all, some (admittedly dubious) studies have suggested that blonds look younger, and men around the world have been lusting after fair-haired bombshells for decades.

But it seems times are changing. With news that (fake) blonds are more likely to develop lymphoma, and billionaires are overwhelmingly more interested in marrying brunettes, there's plenty of reason to doubt the dye job you might have considered a few years ago.

Plus, it's all too easy for an attempt at creative hair coloring to look lame and/or incredibly tacky -- as even celebrities like Jessica Simpson can't keep from going some creepy-looking shade of orange.

So is it better to work with what you've got? Or is there still a part of you that can't resist letting a colorist go to town on your coiffure? In a new poll released today, the ladies at StyleList pursue this pressing question: Two-toned hair -- love it or hate it? Head on over to vote.

Who's hotter: British women or American women?

Filed under: Style in the News

So you've heard all the jokes about Britain's unfortunate teeth, lackluster sex lives, and all around mopey attitudes. But those are jokes, right? Americans aren't actually more attractive.

Or are they?

If you believe a front page article in today's London Times, American women are more alluring than their British counterparts -- not because they're inherently better looking, but because they bother to groom themselves (where as, at least according to the Times' author, British ladies do not).

The article starts out by saying:

"I am a massive fan of British women. UK girls, in my opinion, are the greatest natural beauties in the world . . . when they're 17 or 18 years old."

But then comes back with a resounding slap in the face to all British women:

"I then went away to Philadelphia for university. Four years later, I came back and wondered: 'What the hell happened to all the beautiful girls I knew?' My first assumption was that one half of them had eaten the other half and washed them down with a crate of lager."

Ouch! As you might suspect, the story has incurred some serious backlash from UK bloggers, who call the column "misogynistic" and "disgusting."

What do you think? Is the column out of line? Are American women really more attractive than women from the UK?

Katie Couric's fashion fumblings (Video)

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We all think of TV news anchors as journalists, when really, in most cases, this couldn't be further from the truth. There's a host of real reporters behind the scenes doing all the research -- and then the anchors simply stand in front of a camera reading prompters and trying to look attractive.

So it's not surprising that Katie Couric is concerned with appearance while taping segments -- but seriously, listening to this woman talk about what makes her look "more anchorwoman...ish" makes me feel a little queasy. In the video (that was apparently leaked to YouTube by a CBS employee -- just to make Katie look bad) Couric spends over six minutes obsessing about her looks and making passive aggressive suggestions to her crew.

Her primary concern? Should she wear the collar of her trench coat up...or down? The fate of America hinges on this important question, so I'd like to pose it to you, dear readers:

How should Katie wear her coat?
