Tip of the day: Switch up your hairstyle

Filed under: Hair Care, Style Tip of the Day

Summer is the perfect time to incorporate new hairstyles into your routine, especially when it's lookin' whack. Plus all of these choices keep hair off of your neck which means a cooler you, literally and figuratively. See what I did there?

Anyway, here are four sexy, summer hairstyles that will make you look chic, even when your not feeling so hot.

Ease "the greasies" with dry shampoo

Filed under: Hair Care, Fragrance, Skin Care

Let us try to put this delicately. Have you ever been caught with "the greasies"? But without any time for a full on wash and blow dry? Don't feel bad, most of us have. A ponytail can get you out of a lot of situations, but sometimes you need a stronger solution. Like dry shampoo.

What? How can shampoo be dry? Well, mainly when they're made up of different kinds of powders -- rice, cornstarch, oats -- that absorb excess oil on your hair and scalp. It takes away the oil slick and the volume at your roots makes your hair seem fuller.

Dry shampoos also give your hair an awesome kind of friction, which helps keep pins in for big updos. In fact, several hair "experts" created blends to use on models at fashion shows where you don't have enough time to wash out one 'do before setting the next one. Smart marketers that they are, they packaged them up for the rest of us.

Of course you can use baby powder or plain old cornstarch, but they are harder to handle than a sprays and don't smell as nice as some of the products, which we showcase in the gallery.

Quick Kit: help a new mom feel pretty

Filed under: Cosmetics, Kids and Babies

If anyone deserves a little something to boost her up, it's a new mom. The long nights, interrupted sleep, and crazy hormones drag you down, and those dark circles would make anyone feel less than pretty.

Of course a crying baby means no time for elaborate makeup or beauty rituals. We have lots of friends with babies and they all say the same thing: "Love the baby, hate how tired I look! Help!"

We have just the thing: a 60 second quick kit with our best perk-you-up makeup secret weapons. So small it can fit in the corner of a baby bag, so portable you can pull it out in your car, at the airport or anywhere you need a quick confidence booster.

Add some jewels to your ponytail

Oh, the joys of summer: lemonade, tank tops, beach parties, and ... unruly tendrils?

All right, so nobody said summer was perfect. Luckily, we have two options for taming our summer-humidity, frizz-prone hair. We can either 1.) take the less popular route, reach for the nearest pair of scissors, and give ourselves a shorter mane, or 2.) grab the tangled mass and put those frizzy locks in a no-hassle ponytail.

Unfortunately, ponytails usually scream, "Look at me! My only other option is a hat!"

So, what is a girl to do?

The answer to the age-old ponytail dilemma is Cara Couture jeweled rubber-bands. The 2-inch round "jewel" gives an otherwise bland hairdo some zing. Choose from sapphire, diamond, amethyst, orange topaz, or the coveted J-Lo pink diamond.
