Kiefer Sutherland Apologizes to Designer!

Filed under: Style in the News

Apparently, time heals all wounds, even the head-butting kind. We all know the incident that occurred at a party after The Met's 2009 Costume Institute Gala on May 4th. The one where Kiefer Sutherland allegedly broke the nose of Jack McCollough -- half of design duo Proenza Schouler -- with his noggin.

The designer supposedly knocked into Brooke Shields and didn't apologize, setting Kiefer off. Yet, even Shields tried to take responsibility, blaming her 6" heels for causing her near fall.

But now it appears the "24" star and the designer du jour have called a truce. The two just released a joint statement to the AP through Sutherland's lawyer.

"I am sorry about what happened that night and sincerely regret that Mr. McCollough was injured," said Sutherland. And McCollough stated the following: "I appreciate Mr. Sutherland's statement and wish him well."

This will most likely result in the dropping of third-degree assault charges against Sutherland.

All's well that ends well. And there are collections to be designed, people!

Brooke Shields' Steamy Shoot

Filed under: Swimwear and Lingerie, Celebrities with Style

Brooke Shields is having quite the month! Last week she reminded us that at 43, she's still so beautiful that she can inspire a headbutting altercation. Now she's capitalizing on her feisty good looks in a cougar-inspired photo shoot for Australia's Kurv Magazine. The six-foot-tall actress showed off her toned bod in PVC latex leggings and a cinched-to-there corset while engaged in sexy poses with younger model Chris Fawcett. The saucy black and white images were taken by photographer Tony Duran, who brought out Rene Russo's sexy side earlier this year.

McCollough's Broken Nose the Talk of The City

Filed under: Style in the News

Designer Jack McCollough's nose was badly broken in the head-butt incident with Kiefer Sutherland early Tuesday morning, his rep has confirmed.

A spokesperson for Proenza Schouler, the label he designs with partner and former boyfriend Lazaro Hernandez, told People.com: "Mr. McCollough suffered a broken nose in three places as a result of the assault. He received medical treatment last night after consulting with physicians."

With Sutherland turning himself into the NYPD's 1st Precinct Thursday, the altercation was the talk of the young fashion crowd gathered that evening at Bergdorf Goodman's men's store for the launch of photographer Matt Albiani's book, "Lifeguard on Duty."

Kiefer Sutherland Update - Brooke Shields Blames Her 6" Heels!

Filed under: Style in the News

Kiefer Sutherland was officially charged with assault earlier today after turning himself in to NYC's 1st Precinct. The charges against the "24" star stem from his supposed headbutting of Jack McCollough -- half of design duo Proenza Schouler -- who pressed charges against Kiefer according to WWD.

The altercation, as we previously reported, occurred at an afterparty at SubMercer in New York City following the Met's Costume Institute Gala on Monday night. According to the AP, Jack claims he was attacked by Sutherland after an argument, and left with an injured nose.

Brooke Shield's has been thrust into the middle of the whole debacle since Kiefer was supposedly provoked when McCollough bumped Brooke's drink, though the The NY Daily News reported that her reps told TMZ "she was jostled, but nothing happened to her."

Kiefer Sutherland Turns Himself In

"I really can't say anything guys," was the only comment Kiefer Sutherland had for a throng of reporters waiting outside his West Village, NYC home this afternoon, before the actor took a black town car to the 1st Precinct in Soho to meet with police about his alleged assault on Proenza Schouler designer, Jack McCollough, at a Costume Institute Gala afterparty on Monday night.

Flanked by a bodyguard and two men (one of whom was identified by a source as legal counsel), Sutherland was the picture of sobriety in a blue blazer, black raincoat and conservative reading glasses.

The actor's rep has yet to release a statement on his meeting with police, but it is widely believed he is in the process of receiving a desk appearance ticket which will allow him to remain free while waiting arraignment at a future date. Sutherland is currently on probation after serving jail time on a DUI conviction, and could be headed back to the slammer if being convicted of an alcohol-related assault.

After Monday's bizarre incident in which Kiefer Sutherland allegedly headbutted fashion designer Jack McCollough, of Proenza Schouler fame, in the nose, word has it that Kiefer has agreed to surrender to New York authorities and take what's coming to him. Although Sutherland's people haven't issued any official statement, People Magazine reports that Kiefer is due to surrender to police in Lower Manhattan sometime today.

According to the New York Daily News, Sutherland's only facing a desk appearance and minor misdemeanor assault charges from New York authorities, but heavier penalties may await him in LA, where the "24" star is currently serving a five-year probation term.

As a result of his second DUI conviction -- for which he served 48 days in jail -- he's on thin ice with Los Angeles authorities, and it's quite possible that they will throw the book at him. According to LA criminal defense attorney Steve Sitkoff:
"If Sutherland's found in violation of probation for battery, and if he was intoxicated at the time, he could very well be sentenced to another 48 days or more."

Nicole Richie in Sonia Rykiel - I Want That!

As mom-to-be for the second time around, Nicole Richie looked completely cute in this red double breasted peacoat at the Proenza Schouler show during New York Fashion Week. Nicole has noted before that a tunic, opaque tights, and big, black shoes have been her go-to look all season long. But instead of sticking with only bland black, she lets her bright personality shine with a great pop of color.

Proenza Schouler wants to hook-up your feet

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Last July a Valentino Fashion Group called SpA purchased a forty-five percent stake in the Proenza Schouler brand -- which meant that designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez would finally have enough funding to create a line of accessories to accompany those banded dresses and bustier tops their customers flip out over each season.

Designer of the year nominees are out!

Filed under: Style in the News

The Council of Fashion Designers of America have announced their nominees for designer of the year! For menswear designer of the year Michael Bastian, Thom Browne, and Tom Ford are nominated. Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, and Michael Kors are all up for the accessory category. And for the biggie, the womenswear category, we have Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler, and Marc Jacobs.

I'll admit that I was totally shocked to see Marc Jacobs on the list. Just to put it simply, nobody really liked his Spring/Summer '08 collection. Check out what I had to say about Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton here. I really felt like he lost his magic touch this year. His mojo, if you will, is gone. But apparently the CFDA disagrees, and well, we all know who has more influence in the fashion industry. Me, obviously.

And I'll tell you who I'd like to see win -- Francisco Costa. He's an Ashley Olsen fave and I love him too. This year he kept the lines and designs of his clothing really simple and the result was gorgeous. His collection was fantastic. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) Francisco just won last year, so I doubt that they'll give the big award to him again.

Also up for grabs is the Swarovski Award. This is given to a designer who shows a lot of promise. It's basically a scholarship paid out in the form of cash and Swarovski crystals. For womenswear we have Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte, Thakoon Panichgul, and Alexander Wang and in the menswear category Patrik Ervell, Tim Hamilton, and Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders are duking it out.

Browse through the gallery to see the designers' work and tell me who you think should win in each category!

Proenza Schouler is Valentino's baby now

Filed under: Style in the News

Those dashing boys of Proenza Schouler, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, just got themselves a new partner. WWD reports that the Valentino Fashion Group SpA has taken a 45 percent stake in the label. Stefano Sassi, Valentino Fashion Group's CEO will also become chairman of Proenza Schouler with Shirley Cooks staying on as the label's CEO.

Certainly Proenza Schouler is a brand on the rise, especially after last spring's collaboration with Target that exposed all of America to the young tastemakers. Valentino plunked down $3.7 million for the stake. Interestingly enough, the initial negotiations with Proenza Schouler came before recent events in which European private equity group Permira Holdings picked up a majority stake of Valentino Fashion Group through a series of deals with members of the Marzotto family, the previous owners. The new shareholders approved the Proenza Schouler deal. Valentino beat out suitors like LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Samsonite to claim this rising fashion duo.

Wearing the Proenza Pink

It's been abso-damn-lutely everywhere this season, the bright pink lip. It's part of the Barbie Loves MAC line but reaches apotheosis in the Proenza Pink lipstick for Lancome. The ultimate pink, highly fetishized by beauty blogs and quickly sold out (you can find it on eBay) is the color of the season even if it does look a little like something your overtanned Florida grandmother might wear. So how do you work with the pink lip? Elke over at the Beauty Newsletter has some ways to get a similar look without having lips that scream 'notice my lipstick.' The key seems to be a slow build up of color on the lips and keeping the eyes and cheeks simple. I believe though, that like the skinny jean this is not a trend that works on everyone. And, while Elke recommends limiting the eyeshadow, I'd be sorely tempted to pair this with a silver or pearl shimmering shadow. Which of course explains why I'm not a makeup artist and she is.

Proenza Schouler, second addition

Filed under: Stores We Love, Style in the News

Just when you thought that the excitement of Proenza Schouler's Go International line at Target had finally petered out, you find out that it hasn't. This morning in my inbox, I was treated to the delightful surprise of an email informing me that starting next week, the Proenza Exclusives will go on sale.

What are the Proenza Exclusives? Well, the Proenza Exclusives are all of those pieces that appeared in the promotions but not in your local Target.

And maybe I was the only one who felt this way, but I was a little annoyed with the fact that these outfits had been styled with outside pieces in the original ads. For instance, that cute yellow tank, which was originally matched with the silk top and the blue skirt wasn't anywhere to be found in the GO International section. But starting next week, you can finish off the outfit pictured for just $12.99.

I have to say, the delayed release was an excellent marketing strategy. Well-played, Target.
