Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer does lots of stuff: Win one!

Ever since we were in high school we've had this condition where hair grows out of our face. It's awkward, unsightly and embarrassing. Luckily, we aren't alone. It appears that other men have been afflicted with similar problems.

Over the years we've had to make due with inferior products to keep our facial hair under wraps. Some of the razors and creams we've used have been so ill-suited to our needs that we found it preferable to go outside with scarves and popped collars than a shoddy shave. POPPED COLLARS!

Things weren't always easy. Until now.

Enter the Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer- "the first and only razor that shaves, edges and trims."

$150 razor lets you shave in the dark

As Gillette and Schick continue to battle it out, creating razors with increasingly higher blade counts -- until one day we'll have razors that look at the hair, talk to the hair, ask the hair out for coffee, and then get to know its parents before finally hacking it off -- one of them has finally returned to inventing something useful. Kind of. The new Gillette Fusion Chrome Collection Power Razor comes with five blades, "micro-pulses" (read: it vibrates), and has a flashlight.

Sorry Schick, two blades good, four blades bad

They say that you can never be too rich or too thin. But does that rule also apply to razors?

A week ago, I picked up a free sample of Schick's new disposable four-blade Quattro razor. I hate to say it, but the results were incredibly disappointing. Instead of the smooth, close shave I'm used to from my two-bladed razor (the Schick Slim Twin), the Quattro left my legs patchy and uneven. Boo!

So how is that two blades shave better than four? Why it's physics, darling...

(Cue the tinny music and fog machine -- we're about to have a flash back, people)

Do you remember a this equation: Pressure = Force / Area? Well, that's exactly why a razor with a large surface area (i.e. four blades) does not cut as closely as a razor with a smaller surface area (i.e. two-blades). When the force of your hand is divided over any given surface area, the pressure of the razor will decrease as the area increases. Translate that to your legs, and you get big surface area=bad shave.

So don't be fooled by marketers who tell you that more blades are better -- you know they're not.
