Reebok Launches a Pop Up Store in NYC - For a Limited Time Only

Reebok pumps retroAs part of their attempt to launch themselves back out of their longtime fashion irrelevance, Reebok has opened a temporary 'pop-up store' in Manhattan named "Flash" -- how appropriate. The insta-store, only open for one month, is located at 169 Bowery and will be Reebok's outlet for top secret, limited edition styles that not even the savviest of sneaker insider has ever laid eyes on. Is Reebok actually onto something here?

Reebok unleashes Yao pumps for the Olympics

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Men

Wow
, in a very retro 90's way, we're totally psyched that Reebok has decided to bring back the pump. Not the ladies shoe, mind you, we're talking about the pump that allows middle schoolers to over-inflate their sneakers causing longterm damage (or was that an urban myth?). It's all part of Reebok's bid to climb out of the hole that they've been in since -- well, probably since the Pump-it-Up days.

Their new Yao Ming limited edition sneaker is being released in conjunction with Yao's appearance in this summer's Olympics, where he'll be representing China. Complete with fire-breathing dragons and traditional Chinese colors, these are probably the most elaborate pumps Reebok's ever made. The struggling athletic company hopes to use these mean-looking sneaks, and a media blitz targeting China's Yao pride, to gain a foothold in the world's largest emerging market. Only 2008 of these babies will be produced, and they'll run you about $150.

They're a bit flashy for out taste -- would you wear these out on the court?

MOB X Colette x Reebok

She's baaaaack.

After dropping a rather forgettable spring line full of tees and jackets covered in four-leaf clovers and pink kisses, women's streetwear designer Leah McSweeney of Married To The Mob gets ready to reclaim her throne as the undisputed HBIC in this niche market with the drop of her rather impressive limited-edition sneaker -- which is in collaboration with Reebok and cooler than thou French boutique Colette.

Reebok goes on a world tour

Although Reebok currently makes over 100 different styles of shoes for both men and women, the Freestyle seems to be the only one driving both sexes wild.

As of late, its fluorescent day-glo version which comes in purple, yellow, pink, and blue has become a must-have amongst those who indulge in the following:

Skinny jeans, unwashed hair, the Misshapes, baby food a la Hedi Slimane, Kid Robot hoodies, The Cobrasnake, and Ray Ban wayfarers.

You know, the hipster. (PS: If you don't recognize any of the names just mentioned, consider yourself normal and well-adjusted.)

Anyways, Reebok -- not to be confused with Rbk -- is targeting a new audience this year:

The female sneakerhead.

Sure, the British brand has made shoes for us before, but this the first time they've offered a line 100% devoted to us ladies.

The Freestyle World Tour collection features apparel and footwear that was inspired by some of the world's most fashion forward cities - New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, Madrid, and New Delhi.

Each sneaker is paired with a popular woman in the corresponding cities. For example, DJ Nikki Beatnik is representing London to the fullest with her denim Freestyle. It's my favorite pair in the collection. These will hit stores in September.

The Toyko and Paris sneakers are available now and a new pair will be released each month until November. All Freestyle's retail for $85.

Reebok brings back more than it should have

Pump it up, Reebok, just don't stop. Wait, stop.

Seriously? This is the everything old that is new again? The pump sneaker? Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't these things considered a joke about 5-minutes after they came out the first time? At least Reebok brought them back in the hip and stylish pastels of spring. It's like wearing Easter eggs on your feet.

Apparently, the "Pump Bring Back" series features color pallets inspired by vintage models of this "iconic" shoe. Vintage being the late 80's and early 90's, somewhere between Vanilla Ice and Jesus Jones. Yes, you're old.

The styles include the Reebok Pump Omni, Pump D-Time and Court Victory Pump and are available in mercifully limited numbers at XLarge, Undefeated and Atmos Tokyo.

However, they did do wonders for Michael Chang:

Smells like Kool-aid... and feet!

reebok kool aidFinding the words for this post was nearly impossible. I sat at my desk for five long minutes with my head hanging low, swaying side to side, and wondering why ... why would anyone want a Kool-Aid scented pair of sneakers?

Clearly Reebok bypassed any of those thoughts/ questions because they have teamed up Kool-Aid to create a line of scented shoes. February 1st these sugary shoes will hit shelves (not grocery store shelves) in three "yummy" flavors: grape, cherry, and strawberry. I am a tropical punch girl myself but whatever...

If the shoes aren't enough you can pick up the matching hoodies, tee shirts, and hats from the Kool-Aid collection.

Can't you just hear the Kool-Aid man now, laughing with delight? Can you hear me screaming in horror? Click here to see more images and please, share your thoughts on these Kool-Aid scented sneakers.

Reebok does Voltron

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Men

ebok voltron
I wrote off Reebok a long time ago when I was forced to wear knock-offs that my parents would bring back from their travels through Asia. In fact, I think a lot of people wrote Reebok off almost 15 years ago.

While Reebok might make a comeback with some fresh branding and possible celebrity endorsements and/or partnerships (though it seems they don't care too much for what they've done with Scarlett Johannsen), it looks like their big play is going to be capturing the hearts of those of us who loved other aspects of the '80s, like Voltron. Reebok has culled its five best sneakers in their retro collection and created the Voltron package, which includes ERS Racer, Ventilator, Pump Fury, Omni Pump, and Court Victory Pump.

The Reebok Voltron Package will be available this fall in October.

Scarlett Hearts Reebok, but how does Reebok feel?

Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Shoes, Celebrities with Style

Back in July, we found out that Scarlett Johanssen had signed on with Reebok to create a custom line of athletic/casual gear. The line debuted March 1st in a very low-key way, and press for the new line since then has been, well, lackluster.

Reebok.com doesn't feature Scarlett's line, instead Scarlett Hearts Reebok, which appears to only include 5 items (and not one pair of shoes with the Scarlett Hearts name?) was immediately buried over at the Reebok "store" site with the rest of the celebrity-inspired lines. So what happened? I thought Scarlett was a Hollywood "it" girl right now, so why did Reebok decide to put her name on a plain track jacket and some boring leggings?

Scarlett [hearts] Reebok

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Celebrities with Style

With an impressive resume of performances in movies like Lost in Translation to Ghost World, Scarlett Johansson has parlayed her way into the hearts of directors and audiences alike.

Woody Allen [hearts] Scarlett.
Sofia Coppola [hearts] Scarlett.

But who does Scarlett [heart]?

For one, she [hearts] her boyfriend, Josh Hartnett. And now, apparently, she [hearts] Reebok.

Johansson just signed on to a signature line of clothing called "Scarlett [Hearts] RBK", which will be available in stores next spring. What will this fashion convergence mean? According to Reebok, you can expect "fashion-forward, athletic-inspired footwear and apparel signature collection." Why Scarlett? Because "Scarlett embodies the pulse points of our brand-individuality, authenticity and a life lived to the fullest in perpetual motion,"

Jeeze, sounds like Reebok [hearts] Scarlett.
