Renee Zellweger is a Mechanical Animal

Renee Zellweger in a misguided Carolina Herrera
Oh, Renee. Your hair looks nice, but come on. What is this dress all about? We honestly had no intention of being mean about anybody at the Golden Globes, but you have given us no choice. Why? Because it looks like your are wearing a mesh school marm outfit worthy of Marilla from Anne of Green Gables over this:

Messy Hair at the Golden Globes - StyleFoul!

Filed under: Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Red Carpet Trends, Hair Cut and Style

In regular life, we are all about the casual chic of a tousled up-twist or a half-pulled through pony-tail. But we were appalled at the number of actresses who showed up for the Golden Globes with hair that can only be described as messy.

The Worst of the 2009 Golden Globes - StyleFoul!

Filed under: Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Red Carpet Trends

We love awards season, because it gives us so much material to work with! Last night at the Golden Globes we were by turns impressed, bored and of course, horrified. Since the horrors are the most fun to discuss, let's get right to those.

Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrara - I want that!

Though we're a little unsure of the hair do (is she looking like she has a little case of the Sharon Stone crazies to you too?), we can wholly say we are committed to this lacy but not racy Caroline Herrera number that Renee has on. She kept her David Yurman accessories to a minimum to really allow the dress to take center stage. Absolutely on trend, age appropriate and dazzling daaaahling.

We also had to mention that we just can't get enough of Renee's poses. You can totally tell she practices in the mirror! But hell, practice makes perfect and we can vouch that Renee is pretty close to perfection!

Carolina Herrera dress, Sorry, this one was specially made for Renee! Call the store to special order.

Fad Diet du Jour: Master Cleanse

Filed under: Fashionable Food, Celebrities with Style, Books

Fat behinds ruin the lines of Calvin Klein, and Dior doesn't come in plus sizes. It's time for a diet! But which one? A new one pops up every day. We help you sort them out with Fad Diet du Jour.

The catchy name: Maple Syrup Diet, Lemonade Diet, Master Cleanse

The story: Originally developed by Stanley Burroughs and popularlized in The Master Cleanser, published in 1976. Reintroduced to the world in 2005 by Peter Glickman in his much peppier and promisorily titled book Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days. The idea is that your body is full of toxins, which get stored in your fat cells, and that makes you sick. If you take some time off from ingesting new toxins, i.e. don't eat for a couple of weeks, your body can expel the built up toxins.

The scrawny celebrity dieter:
Confirmed: Beyonce, Robin Quivers. Rumored: Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell, lemon-faced skeletar Renee Zellweger,

The anti-diet propaganda: "It's detox, not a diet! Oh, sure, some people also lose weight..."

Will Renee and George's Leatherheads style influence you?

Filed under: Vintage and Retro, Celebrities with Style

Renee Zellweger and George Clooney have recently been riding the rails for their newest film, Leatherheads. The movie is set in the 1920s, and to go along with the theme, Renee and George have been arriving in dressed in period clothing for each stop on their whistle-stop train tour.

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for clothing from this period, period. Renee's wardrobe (shown here) is feminine and classy, and George ... well, George looks even more dapper than usual. Sorry, I indulged in a little daydream there. And it was nice.

Anyway, since this season is already showing a number of more conservative, 1960s-inspired styles, what's your opinion of going back a few extra decades?

Bring in the jazz, bring in the plump

With full-pouted stars like Renee Zellweger and Angelina Jolie setting the gold standard for beautiful lips, many women have turned to lip-plumping products to enhance their assets. While collagen shots remain the choice for some, more and more women are opting for the temporary solution of a volume-enhancing gloss. And scores of beauty companies (Benefit and DuWop) have responded to this segment of the beauty consumer's appetite. Now Clinique is also getting in on the action.

According to company executive Janet Pardo, Clinique was interested in creating a plumping gloss that was effective, but -- unlike other lip-plumpers on the market -- was also painless to wear. The results? Well, the company says the ten shades of Full Potential glosses can painlessly make your lips up to 30% larger. And that's good news for any thin-lipped and thin-blooded ladies out there.

Moviestyle: Down with Love

Filed under: Style in the News, Vintage and Retro, Celebrities with Style

If you have a thing for mod dresses and pill-box hats, you should check out the 2003 movie, Down with Love.

Down with Love is the story of small-town girl, Barbara Novak (played by the lovely Renee Zellweger). Novak finds fame, fortune and a big city life by writing a provocative book that encourages women to forget about love, and start eating chocolate. Everything seems peachy until slick newsman Catcher Block (played by hunky Ewan McGregor) decides to seduce her. As you might guess, much hilarity and many cute handbags ensue.

What makes Down With Love such a stylish film is the way that it resembles those old Rock Hudson and Doris Day films from late 1950s and early 1960s. The sets, costumes, cinematography and editing make you feel that this movie was actually made in 1962 -- not 2003. The director, Peyton Reed even went so far as to use a greenscreen technique, which recreated a very campy 1960s-era New York cityscape.
