Michelle Obama reminds Phillip Bloch of another First Lady

Phillip Bloch calls Michelle Obama

Like so many others, we've been impressed by Michelle Obama's polished, classic and accessible fashion style. Phillip Bloch is also a huge fan, so much so that he and Forest Whitaker's wife devised a special nickname for her: "Blackie O."

Tina Fey morphes into Sarah Palin on SNL: "I can see Russie from my house."

Filed under: Style in the News

When people aren't talking about Sarah Palin's lack of knowledge on foreign policy issues, her attempt to ban certain books from the library, her seventeen-year-old daughter's pregnancy, her failed attempts to build the "bridge to nowhere", oh yeah, and something about pitbulls and lipstick, they like to lament on the fact that the Alaskan Governor looks like she could double as Tina Fey's Republican twin.

Well, last night Tina Fey returned to Saturday Night Live to play her doppelganger for the premiere episode of the show's new season. The sketch was hilarious, to say the least, and well worth the sleepy eyes we had to fight off to watch it in its entirety. In this clip, watch as Sarah, er, Tina and Amy Poehler who takes on the Hilary Clinton character open the show. Enjoy.

Sarah Palin vs. a Pitbull with lipstick

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics, Beauty Tips

Last night, during her speech at the Republican National Convention, Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin introduced the concept of "Hockey Moms" to a nation that was somewhat unfamiliar with the phenomena.

Apparently, these ladies are a tough bunch. So tough that they are often confused with pitbulls! We took a look, and she's right. It is hard to tell the difference! (Zing!)

But don't worry. Sarah gave us an excellent rule of thumb for figuring out which one you're dealing with: the pitbulls don't wear lipstick. Usually.

Those Shirts are right (wing)

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

ThoseShirts.com
does something unlike any other t-shirt company we've covered. They make Republicans funny. Actually, quite a few of the t-shirt companies have made Republicans funny, but ThoseShirts.com are laughting with the right, not at them. We know, we didn't think it could be done either.

Urban Outfitters is run by The Man

Filed under: Style in the News

You're an ultra left-wing radical college student who excels at purchasing snarky t-shirts and the latest clearance items at Urban Outfitters. Guess what? You are the total opposite of the guy who runs the thriving U.O. empire. He's a picture perfect example of The Man. If you find this shocking -- what world are you living in?

Richard Hayne, President of Urban Outfitters, is like the anti-Dov Charney. Rumor has it that he's an uber-conservative square who donates money to people like George Bush -- he definitely donated to homophobic former senator Rick Santorum. Apparently, some people around the blogoshpere think that he's hiding his image to keep from ruing the company.

We hate to break it to them, but we think the reason people shop at UO is the clothes. Whoever runs the thing, they still sell fashionable/controversial/snarky junk. So he used to be a hippie when he founded the company back in 1970. So what?

A Senate race decided by boots?

"Your momma wears combat boots!" was how kids used to insult each other back in my playground days. Suddenly, though, I may find myself in the situation where someone says to me "Your Senator wears combat boots!"

That's right, here in Virginia, our Senate race is in many ways a race between boot choice. On the one side is incumbent George Allen (the Republican) who wears cowboy boots ... despite the fact that there are no cowboys in Virginia. On the other side is Democrat Jim Webb, who has chosen to wear his son's old combat boots on the campaign trail (Webb's son is currently serving in Iraq).

The two men debated last Sunday on Meet the Press. And while the two candidates were going head-to-head, their boots, in turn, went toe-to-toe.
