Why aren't you wearing this? Mossimo Kiley Boots

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Must Haves

mossimo kiley boots, targetWhile the season's hottest hue might be purple, gray is coming in a very close second, and with good reason. It's neutral enough to go with practically everything, it can go casual or dressy, and in the right shade, it can work with any skin tone.

Mad Men Style - Joan Holloway

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Dresses

Are you mad for the style of Mad Men? Are you sad that the second season's over? So are we - but we're not going to sit around moping until next season starts! Instead, we've collected modern day interpretations of some of our favorite characters' style so we can look the part even if we can't enjoy the high jinks at Sterling Cooper.

Joan Holloway is the office sexpot - she drives men wild just by entering (or more likely, exiting) a room. Her style is an alluring combination of buttoned-up professionalism and body conscious dresses in confident brights. If you want to show off the fact that you're All Woman (caps intended) look for simple silhouettes that emphasize the waist, but never ever show cleavage. That's too easy.

The key to Joan's style is confidence - she's smart enough to use her gifts, both physical and intellectual, to her advantage. Don't be afraid to do the same.

Mad Men Style - Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Men

Fans of Mad Men no doubt had their DVRs at the ready to record Jon Hamm's first SNL appearance. (Ahem.) We weren't disappointed - especially when he poked fun at his dark and outrageously sexy alter ego, Don Draper.

"Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women" was spot on, and the funny thing is that most of his suggestions will work. Just trust us on this. You too, can be Don Draper - and StyleList can help, to a point - when it comes to lying to everyone about everything and disappearing for weeks at a time? Well, then you're on your own.

Love 60s style? Need a coat? Lisa Perry can help.

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Must Haves

We're in coat heaven this winter - there are so many great options out there this season and for that owe a large debt of gratitude to the ongoing popularity of retro fashions. Fifties dresses were huge this summer, and now that the air is getting chillier mod-style coats are getting their turn in the spotlight.

The bold colors and geometric shapes popular in the sixties translate very well to outerwear - as do the boxy cuts and general playfulness of the era. Did your mother take good care of her clothes AND this she save them for you? Then you're in luck! (And we hate you, just a little bit.) For the rest of us, designer Lisa Perry has created a line of sixties-inspired coats that let the rest of us join in on the fun.

Sweater vests for men - are you feelin' it?

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Men

With cooler weather coming just around the corner, we've noticed that all of the conditions are right for a sweaterific fall and winter for men's fashion. Cardigans, turtlenecks, and yes, even the nerdiest of all -- sweater vests -- seem to be turning up in all sorts of fall collections. While the sweater vest is an easy way to add some colorful layers to your wardrobe, we kinda have to wonder if men are really going to embrace the sweater vest this season -- or if that's just wishful thinking.

From what we've gathered, this year's sweater vest look is all about the pattern -- and the nerdier the better. Forget solids or pinstripes, its all about checks, argyles, or a bold houndstooth. Basically, anything reminiscent of an ugly retro sweater that your parents dressed you in as a toddler. We like the depth that a SV can bring to an outfit, but we don't expect to see many on the street. What do you think? Is the sweater vest going to be a hot item this fall?

Christina Aguilera at the VMAs - StyleFoul!

Maybe this is our fault for thinking we were bored with Christina Aguilera's sexy retro look. That matte red lipstick and old-fashioned hair that was, frankly, kinda aging her. But mostly it worked for her, and at least she had some dignity to go with her world class talent.

We should have realized that the old Xtina would bust out (cough cough) soon enough.

So what is she wearing here? This looks like the "Sexy Spider Web" costume from the Halloween Store. Those stripes turn her gorgeous curves into bottom heavy saddle bags of doom!

Then there is her hair and make up. It's a look straight out of the Donatella Versace School of Understated Klass, minus the spray tan. An understandable omission. A working mother doesn't have time to fake bake.

In the gallery, more views and angles, for better or worse, of the New Christina Aguilera.

Where's Waldo? At Fashion Week, of course!

Filed under: Vintage and Retro, Celebrity Fashion Mistakes, Fashion Week

Honestly, it's been quite a few years since we've put any effort into finding Waldo. You know, once we left elementary school, he really just kind of fell off our map ... until now.

The normally elusive Striped One was strangely conspicuous this weekend in the front row at Charlotte Ronson's show. Of course, perhaps he figured that with Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson in the audience, nobody would see him. And if that was the case, he was almost right. Although, sitting right next to Jessica Szohr of Gossip Girl didn't exactly get him out of the paparazzi's sight.

Dress of the day - Twiggy Stardust Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Dresses, Must Haves

This dress is so texbook Mod style that it'll look like you raided your mother's closet before getting dressed. Considering the popularity of retro dresses this fall, that's a very good thing.

The cowl neck is very now and sophisticated, but the swingy front pleat gives it a girlish playfulness that'll keep you twirling - how many items of clothing do you own that will inspire you to do that?

$49.99 at ModCloth

Fashionable football fans - Vintage school tees

We can't deny that we love watching a college football game and seeing the stands filled with school colors and pictures of mascots -- it creates this amazing feeling of team spirit and unity, and we're complete suckers for it. However, it's really unfortunate that so many college tees seem to cram as many images and words and ridiculously bright colors onto the front and back of each shirt as possible. Spirited, these shirts might be, but they are also ugly.

If you're opting to wear a t-shirt representing your school, find one that stands out. The old-school mascots and vintage tees are still very in, whether it was your mom's shirt from the seventies or you just bought it new.
