Tommy Hilfiger Retro Bikini - Give This Two Piece a Chance

Give Peace a Chance Retro Bikini. Photo: Tommy Hilfiger

Lindsay Lohan celebrated her birthday in a red Hervé Léger bandage bikini.

But, when it comes to a 4th of July beach or poolside bash, why not go a bit more festive?

The reigning king of classic American cool, Tommy Hilfiger, has the perfect swimwear for your Independence Day soirée: This red, white and blue Sixties-inspired bikini in a playfully-chic, peace sign print (right).

The adjustable drawstring two piece is available on the Tommy Hilfiger Website for $43.

And really, shouldn't every celebration be about peace, love and style?

Miss Universe Japan - We Bow to You!

Filed under: Style in the News

Okay, beauty pageants haven't exactly been the pinnacle of high fashion (despite some attempts at updating the events). However, the Miss Universe Japan competition gives us hope -- how is it that those Japanese girls are always so darn stylish?

Rather than the skimpy, sparkly outfits we've gotten used to seeing in the Miss USA competition, Miss Japan contestants were decked out in retro, 40s-inspired swimsuits and complementary hats -- so chic and stylish, making it more like a music video or photo shoot than a traditional pageant.

We can't say that we're surprised -- we're often drawn to Japanese trends well before they show up here in the States. But we're definitely intrigued. Will we see similar costuming for the Miss Universe pageant?

Scarlett Johansson in Vintage Givenchy - I Want That!

scarlett johansson

Scarlett Johansson (or should we say Reynolds?) looked every bit the bombshell in this stunning body-hugging, lace induced little black dress. While, in the beauty department, we think a little self tanner might've been a go on the leg area, we can't take our eyes off of her retro 'do and juicy red lips. Scarlett looks every bit the lady and you can too!

Mad Men Style - Joan Holloway

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Dresses

Are you mad for the style of Mad Men? Are you sad that the second season's over? So are we - but we're not going to sit around moping until next season starts! Instead, we've collected modern day interpretations of some of our favorite characters' style so we can look the part even if we can't enjoy the high jinks at Sterling Cooper.

Joan Holloway is the office sexpot - she drives men wild just by entering (or more likely, exiting) a room. Her style is an alluring combination of buttoned-up professionalism and body conscious dresses in confident brights. If you want to show off the fact that you're All Woman (caps intended) look for simple silhouettes that emphasize the waist, but never ever show cleavage. That's too easy.

The key to Joan's style is confidence - she's smart enough to use her gifts, both physical and intellectual, to her advantage. Don't be afraid to do the same.

Mad Men Style - Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Men

Fans of Mad Men no doubt had their DVRs at the ready to record Jon Hamm's first SNL appearance. (Ahem.) We weren't disappointed - especially when he poked fun at his dark and outrageously sexy alter ego, Don Draper.

"Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women" was spot on, and the funny thing is that most of his suggestions will work. Just trust us on this. You too, can be Don Draper - and StyleList can help, to a point - when it comes to lying to everyone about everything and disappearing for weeks at a time? Well, then you're on your own.

Love 60s style? Need a coat? Lisa Perry can help.

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Must Haves

We're in coat heaven this winter - there are so many great options out there this season and for that owe a large debt of gratitude to the ongoing popularity of retro fashions. Fifties dresses were huge this summer, and now that the air is getting chillier mod-style coats are getting their turn in the spotlight.

The bold colors and geometric shapes popular in the sixties translate very well to outerwear - as do the boxy cuts and general playfulness of the era. Did your mother take good care of her clothes AND this she save them for you? Then you're in luck! (And we hate you, just a little bit.) For the rest of us, designer Lisa Perry has created a line of sixties-inspired coats that let the rest of us join in on the fun.

Check out our favorite Lisa Perry coats in the gallery:
