Jennifer Connelly for Revlon

So, what do you do after a stint as Balenciaga's campaign princess? Parlay your new found cool girl status into a contract with the ever-popular beauty brand Revlon, of course.

Jennifer Connelly, the beautiful actress with the dark mane and thick eyebrows, has just been tapped by Revlon to serve as their brand's ambassador. What exactly does a role like this entail, you ask? Well, the 37-year-old Oscar winner will star in the brand's global marketing campaign and represent Revlon when attending various charitable fund raising events.

On her new role as Revlon brand ambassador, Connelly says: "Revlon is one of the great iconic brands of today and I am thrilled to be part of a company that has done so much for women around the world."

Spoken like a real politician.

Beauty products that they DON'T recommend

Filed under: Hair Care, Cosmetics, Skin Care

bad beauty productsMost of the time, we find ourselves asking one another what we use for wash our faces, moisturize, get ride of zits, erase fine lines. Very rarely do we ask the opposite question, "What do you not use?" Why would we? We don't need to know about something we'd never buy and try. Still, TotalBeauty put together a list of the 12 beauty products that earned the lowest ratings from their editors. I guess the best way to use this information is to watch out:

See which products you should avoid:

  • Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss
  • Revlon Tourmaline Ionic 1875 Watt Hairdryer
  • Redken All Soft Gold Glimmer Perfecting Shine Treatment
  • Murad Firm and Tone Serum
  • NARS Body Glow
  • Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara
  • Skyn Iceland Arctic Face Mist
  • Maybelline New York Define-a-Lash Mascara
  • Lush Jungle Conditioner
  • Sally Hansen Smooth Glow Stubble Reducing Moisturizer
  • John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Answer Spray
  • Molton Brown Naran Ji Fine Liquid Hand Wash ($23)

Jessica Alba: hot, famous and even richer than before

Filed under: Cosmetics, Celebrities with Style

Jessica Alba, star of TV's Dark Angel, and the amazingly popular Sin City movies, is a popular lady. She was named as one of Playboy magazine's 25 Sexiest Celebrities and Maxim magazine's second hottest woman of 2006, along with winning an MTV Movie Award last year for Sexiest Performance.

Thus, it's really no surprise that she's just signed with Revlon for $5 million. She'll be joining Eva Mendes, Julianne Moore and Halle Berry in promoting the company's line of beauty products.

So what exactly do celebrities do when they sign endorsement deals like this? According to Fashion IQ, Alba's "first job for the cosmetic giant was shooting a 12 hour commercial for 3-D Extreme mascara where she was repeatedly kissed by male models."

Best of luck, Jessica. Sounds like a tough gig for any woman.

Revlon Limited Edition

Filed under: Cosmetics, Steals and Deals

As a dedicated Drugstore Beauty Queen, I love how certain products and concepts that were previously only available in stores like Sephora are now filtering down to the drugstore brands. A great example is Revlon's Limited Edition Collection which features items like a frosted powder lip topcoat, swirled lip gloss, and sheer gel blush. Given my well-documented palette addiction, the product that most speaks to me is the Golden Affair sculpting blush. It has a base color topped with swirling gold accents that can be used to add a bit of gilded shimmer to your cheeks. And at Revlon prices, I won't feel quite so guilty about actually using this one.

The art of the lash

Women expect a lot from their eyelashes: thick, long, separated and curled. Like everything else in beauty, the gold standard is exactly the opposite of the way we all wake up in the morning.

Gone are the days of the simple wand in a standard tube, filled with black goop. According to the New York Times, starting this fall, we will be seeing some major mascara innovation. From the high-end contenders like Chanel and Lancôme, to the drugstore brands like Maybelline and Revlon, be prepared for an array of new wands that resemble everything from a miniature hairbrush (promising) to a tiny cactus (no way I'm putting that next to my eye!).

Because I'm a sucker for cosmetic novelty, I'm eager to see what these wands are going to do for my lashes. With any luck, they'll do the opposite of what they will do to my wallet...
