Fall 2009 Fashion Week: Backstage Beauty at Richard Chai

Filed under: Cosmetics, Fashion Week, Beauty Tips, Hair Cut and Style

SHOW: Richard Chai
MAKEUP: Gucci Westman for Revlon
HAIR: Kevin Ryan for Ricky's
BEAUTY SNAPSHOT: Sk8ter girls

THE SCOOP: Richard Chai's clothing has never been for girlie girls, and his Fall 2009 show was no different. With slender silhouettes, punky plaid, leather and lots of blacks and grays, Chai sees your street chic and raises it 20. And what do street smart gals wear? Smoky eyes, of course. We've seem lots of these so far this season, but here, makeup artist Gucci Westman takes a fresh spin by blending matte brown shadow with steel gray shadow for what she calls a "mousy gray eye." Take it from us, this mixture of warm and cool did wonders to make the model's eye color really pop. For lips, Westman used a shade of lilac she and Revlon created exclusively for the show (pictured, right). It's yet un-named, but will hit the shelves later this year. Hair stylist Kevin Ryan was on hair duty, creating a "skate punk" faux-hawk that's reminiscent of New York's Tompkins Square Park, circa 1987. "We wanted the girls to look like they're in a band," he said.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Rich Sable, Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quad in Azure Mist, Revlon Matte Lux Color Kohl Eyeliner in Black Truffle, Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Blackest Black, Revlon 3D Extreme Mascara in Blackest Black.

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: First, pull hair back in 2 back ponytails, a high one and a low one. Slather Bumble and Bumble Styling Creme on the bottom section, to achieve a slick look. Next, take out the top ponytail, and tease at the roots to get height. Brush it back to fall over the bottom ponytail, and mold the section into place with lots of Bumble and Bumble Holding Gel.

Richard Chai: Now in stores!

This weekend, we rediscovered the genius that is Target and its Go International collaborations. After picking up some much needed Vitamin Water, milk, and cereal, we found ourselves smack dab in the middle of the women's department scouring the racks for new and pretty Richard Chai for Target pieces.

Fresh produce and affordable clothing, could you ask for a cooler way to shop? Well, we don't think so. Even more so now after checking out the quality of the Richard Chai garments in person. All of the dresses are adorable and felt as good on our bodies as they did in our minds when we were imagining walking to brunch with our friends in our fresh new duds.

The majority of the pieces from the Target look book were at the store near our house, but just in case you don't find everything you've been swooning over or there just isn't a Target near your house, check out Target's online store. Let those credit cards fly, ladies!

Richard Chai for Target

We love high-fashion. And when it's on sale? Oh, my! We'll use a whole tank of gas to get that pair of black trousers or school blazer we've been eyeing all season via our favorite fashion magazines.

So imagine the smiles across our faces this weekend when we caught a glimpse of Target's ads promoting its upcoming Go International campaign with designer Richard Chai in the August issue of Lucky magazine.

Confirmed: Jonathan Saunders for Target

Filed under: Style in the News

So, here's one of the worst kept secrets:

Yesterday, Target confirmed that Jonathan Saunders will in fact design the next limited-edition capsule collection for its hotly-anticipated Go International line.

The line will drop, slide, roll, whatever into Target stores in October. Pick up your jaws, ladies -- we did the math, too: Rogan's diffusion will be making its grand exit in June and the Saunders stuff won't see the light of day until October. WTF, Target? Do you expect us to stalk Forever21 for designer knock-offs or something? What were you thinking? Goddddd.

Well, be easy darlings. Richard's Chai's cool girl uniforms for Target debut this August. Phew, that was a close one.

Confirmed: Monica Botkier for Target

Last Week, Target announced that the bright young thing known as Richard Chai -- who helped launch Marc by Marc, revived TSE and won a Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award -- would be the next designer for Target's ever-popular GO! International line.

And now they're spilling the beans about who's throwing down on the accessories side of things this summer:

Monica Botkier
will be the next renowned designer launching a limited-edition capsule collection with the mass retailer. The Botkier for Target collection will be available at select Target stores nationwide and at Target.com July 21 through Sept. 14, 2008, which means it will follow the upcoming Gryson for Target collection.

The New York babe is known for her motor-cycle inspired handbags, so anybody who hearts quality leather and metal zippers is in for a real treat.

In three words: I am excited! My first major handbag purchase was a black leather Botkier tote that I still love and carry to this very day. Monica's pieces are so well-made and I'm sure that her line with Target is going to be nothing short of amazing -- and inexpensive.
