Kate Winslet - Vanity Fair cover prompts retouching rumors

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Kate Winslet is one of our most favorite actresses in the world. (Kate, next time you're in San Francisco, lunch is on us. Seriously -- we'll take you for a lobster club at Neiman Marcus that will change your life!) So we're firmly on her side in the "Vanity Fair Photoshop or not" debate.

Lindsay Lohan is getting skinny, and we all know what that means

Uh, oh. America's favorite sapphic starlet is setting off those substance abuse rumors again. Fox News is spreading reports that Linds, "isn't taking care of herself." For the repeat rehabber, that means drugs, or at least partying too much.

Lindsay and her gal-pal Sam Ronson are definitely skinny. And Sam, already not the prettiest girl at the party, works that dark-circle/heroin-pallor-look hard. Either she's spending some hard nights on the town, or she's adamantly trying to prove that superficial stuff, like concealer and blush, is beneath her notice.

We'll be able to judge Lindsay's weight loss for ourselves soon, when she appears in a red bathing suit on an episode of Living Lohan, her sister Ali's horrifying reality show. Let's hope that, if anything, she's taking the Master Cleanse a little too far, and not following the Rachel Zoe horse tranquilizer diet again.

Funny thing: Lindsay's all natural boobs are always the same size, no matter how big or small she gets...now that's a reason to gossip.

For the millionth time, Kate Moss is not being dropped by Agent Provocateur

Last week the blogosphere went wild with rumors that sexy lingerie brand Agent Provocateur would be dropping Kate Moss for an edgier and much younger Alice Dellal.

If you haven't been keeping track, this is about the third time in two months that the company has apparently tried to shove the supermodel out of its door.

But, like all the other stories concerning Miss Moss and Agent Provocateur, this too appears to be false.

Hippie dressing Madonna uses maiden name to buy a house

Madonna is a bra-burning, blasphemous crucifix mounting sort of a feminist. So nothing about this story really surprises us. Madonna used her maiden name to buy a $7 million dollar Central Park apartment in N.Y.C., which just adds fuel to the fire -- are she and Guy Ritchie and the rocks?

Victoria Beckham's enormous pores

Filed under: Skin Care, Celebrities with Style

We're all used to seeing our favorite celebs on TV, magazine covers, and in movies -- but as you're probably well aware, the lights, make-up (and excessive use of Photoshop) make already attractive people into shockingly gorgeous uber-humans. So what do they look like for real?

Victoria Beckham, apparently, is one celeb who's hottness doesn't hold up when you get up close and personal. At the Marc Jacobs after party following the designer's runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, one guest told New York Magazine he'd "commit suicide" if he had Posh's complexion, because "Her skin is yellow with big pores." So big, in fact that "Each pore you could fit a big [piece of] caviar in."

Zing!

Though, it's worth noting that the guest was Michael Lucas, a porn star. Not that his profession completely derails his credibility, but anyone who's willing to have sex on camera with random strangers just so they can be in "movies" would probably say anything for a little attention. I'm just sayin'.

New Old Navy: Does this mean it won't suck?

Right around 1998 Old Navy hit their stride. They were right in line with the Dave Matthew's Band-loving, sensitive frat guy look that was unfortunately sweeping the nation. But times changed, people got smarter (and actually interested in fashion), and they stopped dressing like dorks season after season. Other stores that used to target a similar demographic (Gap, J Crew, etc), re-imagined themselves for a more fashion-forward customer, while Old Navy kept insisting that faux-thrift-store, "retro" t-shirts and ill-fitting pants were all the rage.

But rumor has it that maybe times have changed. The company has launched an under-the-radar email campaign to generate buzz about the "New Old Navy." Unfortunately, no one knows what that means.

Fashionista thinks they might be buying Fred Flare and turning into a lifestyle store, or that they're about to release some cutesy TV commercial with their new head designer, Todd Oldham. I have no idea what they're planning -- but I hope they're launching a new clothing line that isn't targeted at high school-aged jocks.

Just a pipe dream?

Ashley Olsen gettin' it on with Lance Armstrong?

Half of the world's most famous pair of fashion twins has been spotted with Lance Armstrong lately. Gossip columnists seem convinced that it's Ashley, but I still can't tell those Olsen sisters apart -- so who knows which twin has actually been engaging in serious PDA with the Tour de France champion.

Could this mean The Row will start making cycling gear? Probably not. But will it mean Lance Armstrong will be totally creeped out every time he watches Full House re-runs -- realizing that the first time he saw 3-year-old Michelle Tanner nauseate audiences with "You got it, dude!" he was in high school?

Absolutely.

Is Kate Moss under the knife or under the influence?

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

One telltale sign of a cocaine addition is retracted nostrils. It doesn't happen to everyone, but like the bulging neck of bulimic, the physical symptom can sometimes point to a dangerous cause.

Recent photographs of Kate Moss have sparked a huge debate in the British tabloids. Comparing a photograph of Kate Moss from her early career to her present appearance, it's clear that her nose has changed slightly over the years. It's certainly narrower, if nothing else. Some explain the change as the result of a simple cosmetic procedure (common in the fashion industry), but others speculate that Kate's new nose is the result of a cocaine addiction.

Personally, I hope Kate had a nose job. As Rick James-as-played-by-Dave-Chappelle said, "Cocaine is very dangerous drug."

News from the rumor mill

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

It's Friday (and Friday the 13th at that), and if that doesn't entitle us to a little bit of idle gossip, I don't know what does!

So here it is, the Friday Rumor Round-up via British Vogue:
  • Model Linda Evangelista gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday. His name is Augustin James Evangelista, and he's already made it clear that he's not getting out of his cradle for anything less that $10,000 a day.
  • Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that Fashion Week will remain in Bryant Park for at least one more round of shows this February. As for next fall, who knows. In the meantime, IMG and the City of New York will continue to look for a permanent home for Olympus Fashion Week.
  • Everyone's favorite crazy, Naomi Campbell is rumored to have checked herself into The Sanctuary in Byron Bay for detox. Sure hope she's out by her November court date, otherwise, she's going to have one very unhappy judge on her hands.
  • Rumor has it that Katie Holmes will be wearing Chanel when she marries Tom Cruise. My guess is that it will be "Amazing!"
